guess an sprain is something quite different in germany cuz Oberdolf is indeed back
PSG vs. Wolfsburg - 22 March 2023 - Women Soccerway

well the first 3 quarter fianls been quite tedius to watch, all ending 1-0. Was hoping WOB will do something bold & shake things up but judging from the lineup their as well in cruise control. Dunno much about PSG, a bit different from last year when they had Katoto, Dabritz, Ilestedt.Huitema. Noticeed that Martens is on the bench, so probably havn't gotten much out of her since joining, PSG is unbeaten so far in the French League but got 3 draws & only scored 39 goals so far this season. So it;s ither the French League got stronger or they just got weaker!

0-0 halftime. very cautious/tedious by WOB, but at least they didn’t bunker like BM rather they put an midfield press that only on occasion PSG were able to get passed with an few solitary runs that never got to dangerous.
Hopefully Jonsdottire Brand & Wassmuth are allowed to come in in the 2nd half bring some excitement into the game!—-so far only 3 shot attempts by WOB

Lucky Wolfsburg, if Hegering didn't touch the ball the ref could stay with her initial call...

heh lucky twice with PK given and now 2nd YC for de Almeida :D

Break for Wolfsburg pk handball call on PSG plus red card/goal by Jansen…and that’s an minute after the ref reversed an pk call on WOB who now lead 1-0

From what I was able to see during the 1st half, PSG the far more organized team, with Wolfsburg looking tactically terrible. The fact they lead this game 0-1 is honestly a joke lol...:giggle:

Stroot has been VERY disappointing this season, but this season of poor football from Wolfsburg still see's them finding ways to win... even when they should be losing lol.

Wasn't a PK though... from behind you can clearly see Hegering make contact with the ball, but the VAR ref was persistently showing the other angle from in front, where it looks like Hegering makes contact only wit the player

Wolfsburg are BAD lol... they have a player more, and still have Popp spending more time in her own half as a LB...

It's crazy seeing another poor performance so deep into a season I was sure Wolfsburg filled with enough talent to be significantly better than they were last season....

Lattwein has been terrible, but where is Roord...? The lack of intensity or quality on display from these two, is shocking...

EDIT: And now finally Stroot does something, bringing Brand on... but guess where she's playing.. in the CAM role...

For a team with their stature, Wolfsburg have terrible away form. So this performance isn't surprising, but still very disappointing.

Oberdorf is playing through injury, and is still the only relevant mid-field presence Wolfsburg have...

Well... FT: 0-1 Wolfsburg win lol, with Hegering as their POTM... and this by a LARGE margin. Meaning once again, even if Wolfsburg remain a tactical mess that I can never really understand this season, they still manage to find positive results regardless of the regular inconsistency in performance...

And I know as usual Wolfsburg will become a better side in the home match... but I don't understand why they continue to appear so underwhelming in key tactical elements that would help them demonstrate more commanding 90 min performances...

Should they complete their task and beat PSG at home, I worry what happens if this seasons version of Wolfsburg have to face Barca away from home again lol.

Oh, and people need to start putting more respect on Hegering's name too. It's obvious Hegering's found her stage as an elite defender now....:whistling:

Maybe could get a role in a movie about Gengis Khan? Fo you think Scheuer or Rossler might be next coach?

Wondering if Cerci can get out of her contract?(if Koln get relegated) but then apparently the only option would be to become Wolfsburg’s 5th stringer striker! lol
well reading the good folk’s at the BS/international forum, their all angry that the PK wasn’t called, but this time I would agree with DAZN commentator that said; though contact was made, it the PSG attacker pushed her leg unto Hegering. So glad it’s called this time in favor of the defender(especially since the attacker can cheat or dive their way for an pk call)

one of the few times PSG was able to isolate an defender otherwise WOB’s players in tight support of each other on defense, but of course in luie of creative attacking as both Popp & Roord we’re instead assisting in the back with only long to Pajor as it’s only attacking options

coupe of interesting takes from the English commentator; to fool/throw off PSG, WOB could of exaggerated Oberdorf’s injury(would clubs actually do that?)

and an another interesting comment from him; ‘Wolfsburg players are very athletic & physically strong, just like Americans’!’

It won't happen, but Frankfurt could use a real #9 who can/will score15-20 league goals for them.

Frankfurt's offense packed with talented goal scoring CAM's, it's only Martinez and Wamser currently their only true #9 options. Highlighting why it's slightly concerning that Frankfurt have spent most of the season as the 3rd place club with leagues 5th best offense...o_O

I feel beyond addressing their weird insistence on not having genuine width, Frankfurt could genuinely benefit from having a player like Cerci leading their attack, supported by impressive AM/FW's like Reuteler, Freigang, Anyomi, Prašnikar, Dunst.

LOL... endless replays for an extended period of VAR confusion, yet people were completely SILENT with the highest viewed women's Euro match ever having a blatant handball on the goal line ignored during a final...

Wolfsburg's away record is really erratic in the UWCL... and this match appeared to have all the side effects of a team uncomfortable with the prospect of playing away from home during the knockout rounds...:cautious:

The English commentators don't seem to know anything about German clubs... well, beyond them constantly wanting to relate everything happening in the match back to the WSL, or English players lol.

So I wouldn't take them too seriously, when Oberdorf was running around more than her fellow mid-fielders in this match, with a clear heavily tapped knee, and eventually subbed out of the game early too...:whistling:

Again... I wouldn't take the English commentary too seriously. And if I was a US fan, I wouldn't be very pleased hearing anyone compare Wolfsburg's ugly play Vs PSG alongside the best factor of the American players lol.

Honestly... these commentators unaware of anything beyond the WSL, or the most recent UWCL games. I've heard some of the worst takes come from English UWCL commentary this season, where their brains seem to struggle with the concepts behind English clubs remaining completely irrelevant within the greater history of this competition.

If the man, or woman, talking about PSG Vs Wolfsburg believes Wolfsburg's main advantage is simply being very athletic & physically strong, they must have missed both games Vs Roma this season, where Wolfsburg twice struggled to contain their Italian opponents high energy style of play...:coffee:

I definitely felt part of Wolfsburg’s strategy was to ‘out physical’ PSG, not just man to man, but pretty much engineer a wall at midfield for PSG to try & seep through. WOB didn’t want to take control even after the one man advantage—-rather waited to let PSG come up with the ball-disposes them at midfield & counter. And it’s interesting how Popp really relishes her role in physically battling opponents at mid instead of being star fwd(which she’s obvious very good at too)
Perhaps tomorrow’s Bayern match will instead be more of ‘the Beautiful game’(with more emphasis on creative play)Popp & Oberdorf sure could use an break from the physical battle they just had with PSG

athleticism; before she joined WOB, I already fingered Hendrich as Germany’s best athlete. Jonsdottire & Brand we’re clocked in as 2 of the top 5 fastest players at Euros/I’m sure Pajor would of been added if only her Polish NT can ever qualify…and both Wassmuth & Blomqvist have that burst of speed as well. Oberdorf obvious an athlete as well.

where the commentator got it wrong was saying “just like Americans”(that’s where’s there’s huge differences, as we got our own type/style)

    —————————————-

1st round of Champions League playoffs has been an huge success for German clubs & it’s players. Even at the Chelsea/Lyon match had strong showings from Leupolz Berger Dabritz & Marozsan. Now if they can only get passed MVT’s atrocious coaching… lol

Isn't it obvious by now that she's by far the best CB Germany's ever had? There will be mistakes here and there because of her risky style of playing (fueled by the coaches using her in this role because she can so), but her impressive performances in both France and England really make you wonder that Germany once had CBs like Peter and Henning protecting the goal lol
