How do you keep motivating this winning side to pursue for more trophies? If you were in Scaloni`s position? What would you do? Im curious to hear you guys thoughts.
Same as he did before : don't guarantee anyone's starting position (besides Messi) Very underrated part of our success. Other dinosaur coaches would field same team no matter. Or like crazy man sampaoli randomly experiment with a thousand players (I heard he's getting fired from Sevilla lol)
For a start bring in some of those who did not win the Mundial into the squad. Challenge them to step up to the plate. For those staying on. Lets see how we can improve even further. Sure we won these trophies but let's see what our true ceiling as a group is. We're he to be shot at. Let's shoot down the challengers. We don't want a couple years of success we want perpetual success at every tournament. By winning you'll all feel great, get better opportunities in the club game. Think what it means to the fans. We've already seen what it can do to lift the mood of the nation. Let's keep brightening peoples lives because it's far from a paradise for them at the moment. Remember these colours. They're special. Immortal. We represent the nation when we put these on so lets put on a show each time we do.
I would challenge them to shut teams down. We had trouble keeping clean sheets. That's one thing to work on.
We have to keep push for more trophies , Years will pass more fast. we shouldnt get satisfy with our last Victory . In fact we just broke all the jinx this is the time to open the flood gate of trophies.
Reading about Argentinean futbol right now is pure porn . Everything is good vibes, positive storylines and joy. I think that I am a bit older than most people here (hint, I have been around for all three WCs - barely for '78) and I can without any hesitation say this is a MOTHERFU$KING PEAK FOR US. Only 1979 can rival for peak bc we had just won the WC, we won the U-20 WC and Diego was ascending. But I think this success is more sustainable because our infrastructure is stronger and I can see AFA laying down a plan for the future; like grown ups. I agree with DePaul, this is about as good as it can get for us. We are PEAKING!!!
I was alive for 86 but too young, 90 was the first WC I remember and yeah definitely the best it's been for me.
Yes, it's so good now, but it's not as good as it gets. We can reach even higher peaks, higher valleys. This is how they should basically be:
Pretty much this. Alive in 86 but too young and even 1990 is a fuzzy. 94 I remember well, 98 is what I can remember everything. The funny thing is in 98, they talked about 86 and how we beat the English. And I would think wow, 12 years ago, that was a long time ago. Now, if we look back, it would’ve been equivalent to the 2010 World Cup, which unfortunately we do not have good memories. Time does fly by. I still watch videos of our victory from the 18th of December, 2022. I just hope the youngsters understand how difficult it is to win this and to treasure that moment. It is not easy winning this tournament. But while we have our third star, I do want a fourth.
1986 was what started my love affair with the Argentina NT, (my son's middle name is Diego). Little did I think it would be 36 years until we won it again. Obviously '86 was pre-internet age so the amount of information you had access to was very limited. Now I can saviour every moment of the 2022 win and whenever I want. And there's no guarantees in football, we all know how difficult it is to win a world cup, it might not happen again fir Argentina in my lifetime, but I'm happy that I have been lucky enough to see these triumphs and enjoy the reaction videos and see the celebrations of both the players and fans all over the world.
They've won it twice in my lifetime and reached 4 finals, Im in my late 30s so Im pretty confident they'd win another. Speaking of pre internet, I'm in Indonesia and I can assure more than 90% of the population knows about Diego back in 80s. Its actually hard to imagine how big Diego would be if he play in internet era. The amount of footage of him is staggering, you can find videos of him from back in the day doing the most random things.
Same here, the only thing I faintly remember from WC 1990 was Maradona-Caniggia combo against Brazil and Diego penalty against Italy and Diego's tears in the final... and to be honest, I only watched Argentina at the time because my father has been supporting them after watching the 1978 victory, the one other reason is because of Diego.
- Remind the team they are on the cusp of yet more history; outright most Copa titles and join a handful of teams to win a hattrick of major tournaments (discounting Finalissima). - Recycle the team a bit. Looking back at several of the most recent defending champions (Germany 2018, Spain 2014, Italy 2010, Brazil 2006) the manager was always tempted to stay loyal to those who got him the title. Italy and Spain were especially bad with that because there were signs and there were players ready to move the side forward but Del Bosque and Lippi chose loyalty. So much of the next gen, who haven't tasted victory yet, are naturally going to be hungrier so it's important to include them and let their energy reinvigorate the guys who have won everything already. - no guaranteed positions as has been mentioned. Even a guy like Di Maria who has won all there is to win still plays like he has something to prove. That's been a massive strength for Scaloni and the hope is he keeps that in place. Most managers have several players already penned in whereas Scaloni probably only has Messi and perhaps Emi.
The youngsters who are gradually going to get integrated must understand that they have not won anything yet. They have to earn the shirt they are wearing and continue fighting if they want to keep it. Make no mistake; Scaloni will drop you if you do not perform for him. It's great that they are around world champions, but the hard work now starts for them. Nothing is promised in this sport. Besides all that, let's all enjoy these friendlies and celebrations. The players deserve it, as does the nation and of course, the fans.
Maradona is still a huge figure all over the world, I mean in India and Bangladesh the guy is like a god. There's more than footballing reasons for this. For my generation of Asians the 2 goals he scored against England in '86 were more than about winning a game if football. Anyway, I digress, you never know if another world cup win will happen, no one has a right to win it, Brazil win 3 in 12 years but 2 in the next 53 years and they are favourites to win every bloody world cup.
