PSLQ is a semi pro setup with a $50k salary cap and a minimum salary of $2,500. You can have one DP but he has to fit within the team cap. Many players are not paid, but each team must pay at least 9 players and spend the entire cap. All the teams are based in suburbs of Montreal, so travel expenses are negligible. I'll bet the players usually drive themselves to games. It's called third division but that's Canada third division, where first is the decidedly second divisionish CFL, which is comparable to USL 1. So in truth it's more like 4th division. It's not exactly a bar league but it's not a whole lot more. The appeal to a cheapskate like JoeyBoy Saputo is obvious; it costs virtually nothing.
And functionally, it's not integrated into MLS operations (players can't move back and forth) like Next Pro is. Their wikipedia page refers to CF Montreal U23 as the senior team's highest academy team, which sounds about right. Cheap, but in no way a replacement for a Next Pro team.
Charlotte's MLSNP team is Charlotte Crown Legacy. Assuming it's within the rules, someone missed a great opportunity to tie-in with Crown Royal.

Capys win championships, the stands, and the corporate dollars https://www.massivereport.com/2023/...unces-ohiohealth-as-first-ever-jersey-sponsor
Do any other Next Pro teams have a jersey sponsor? I have no idea. Could be common. We could be the first. I’d be curious to know. But, in any event, good job by Bernert, even though I assume this isn’t a big money sponsorship. Now all she has to do is big naming rights for HCS.
7pm on MLS Season Pass. It appears that the game on MLS SP will be announced sporadically. I looked at various schedules and only the openers have been announced so far.
Seems logical. It's the case with Nashville/Huntsville: https://www.mlsnextpro.com/huntsvil...econdary-kit-renasant-as-first-jersey-sponsor
...First Launch Kit... As opposed to the second launch? Then again, rebrands are all the craze these days.
Quick heads up: The Season Pass broadcasts might also be live-only. I can't find the Friday night MLSNP games on-demand on Season Pass and I'm pretty sure at least on of them was Season Pass (not league website). I've only looked on the Roku app so far, so maybe they are available but device-restricted - or maybe really hidden like the on-demand MLS full games are.
MLS must have a reason for not wanting MLSNP games available on-demand. I'm guessing it has to do with limiting the ability to break down film, either by foreign clubs or fans.
I do seem to recall someone saying they wouldn’t be on demand, and a theory similar to that was put forth.
MLS site says all MLSNP playoff games will be on demand. Makes it seem like regular season games are mainly just live. https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/mls-next-pro-top-matches-to-watch-in-2023
Special season. Special team. Special supporters. Relive the action from our inaugural season, and get ready for Season 2 on the @AppleTV app. It all kicks off on Sunday.#Crew96 ✘ @AEPenergy pic.twitter.com/05C5BviEFq— Columbus Crew 2 (@ColumbusCrew2) March 24, 2023
This announcer is bad. I doubt he knoww some of the rules, not just the weird MLSNP ones. This crew 2 midfield, while supposedly experienced, doesn't look it.

Hate that you have to watch live Not sure it’s truly about scouting because scouts could just record the live games and watch whenever they want. seems to me more likely that it cost more money to keep stuff on demand
