LOL Yeah I think the entire yellow card system is broken It has never made sense to me why you can do a professional foul which has a high chance of stopping a goal, and get effectively no punishment.
The nuts thing is William keeps it out with his knee either way. The trajectory of the ball was gonna bounce off his knee. It was so stupid, and then Silva and Mitrovic compounded it with even stupider decisions.
It really needs an overhaul but FIFA don't have the stones to do it. Firstly, it should be 3 yellow cards = a red. How often have players done shitty early game fouls that don't get carded, and the same foul is a card later in the game and all because the ref doesn't want a team to have a player on a yellow early. Orange card for a sin bin like suggested. This is for fouls that aren't quite a red, but should force a player off the field for 10 mins. My local Aussie Rules league has something like this. Sometimes there are really shitty tackles made that aren't worth a red, but a yellow isn't sufficient. 10 mins in the sin bin is where this would work. Red card remains the same.
Extra yellows will result in more yellow card worthy fouls, I don’t like the idea. Refs need to establish standards early, if they don’t they lose control of the game.
I don't like the hockey penalty. It's too slow getting someone to come off the pitch and it's yet another thing that ref has to account for, and doesn't really give you an advantage if you do it very late (resulting in more orange cards). Also, what's the length of time? 10m, 20m? Man off until the non-offending team scores? I'd be more of a proponent of the team losing a substitution, or it's automatic red if they're out of subs. Any change would make the game so much different and not look like football anymore. I can see this rule never being changed. That being said -- my final judgement is: Orange card -- you must tie your ankles together for 20 minutes or until the other team scores. Instead of penalties when games go to a tie, a new ball is added every 5 minutes. Golden goal rules. No stoppage of play.
IMO the simplest/best is a 15-20min penalty bin (yellow card) for - persistent infringement - rotational fouling after warning from ref - professional foul - dangerous play Upgrade to Red - violent conduct - aggravating factor (e.g head contact) Redcarded player can be replaced from bench after 20 mins
Yellow card in football doesn't really work 1. It's stupid that every player has one yellow card to give. That means you can do rotational fouling like City. 2. Often a professional foul is done by a player who has a yellow to give - this means effectively no downside to stopping a goal - but that is dumb from an entertainment/viewer point of view. 3. Frequently a player on a yellow doesn't get a second yellow unless it is a glaringly obvious professional foul - so that gives him a bit of a license to continue to infringe while pretending not to. This is because the tariff of red is too high for most situations that aren't violent conduct. 4. The yellow tariff (fouls per yellow) is wildly inconsistent - as we've seen as Arsenal fans, other teams have been allowed to hack us to death for twenty years, so they get to spend a lot of fouls per card and almost never get red. Meanwhile Arsenal players get yellows very quickly. There were some United players in the SAF era who almost never got yellow cards e.g Rio. Ditto Maquire I'd also argue for some other changes. e.g holding on a corner should be 20min bin. In other words incentives should be a bit different. When playing hockey you know you can give a penalty with 2min tariff and choose to do so. So in football, you can decide to do a pro foul, knowing you will get the 20 min bin.
Took in my first non-league match in the UK the other day. Hanwell Town v. Poole Town. I'm still trying to figure out where down the pyramid this was . . . 8th or 9th division? Had a great time with around 200 other people. Wasn't sure on the day if it was worth my time, but definitely happy I went. Apparently this weekend in "non-league weekend" so hopefully Hanwell gets a much bigger crowd for that.
I love those little grounds where the homes right next door and can easily watch the game practically unobstructed. I've seen many of these in the early rounds of FA Cup. I feel like if I lived in London/England, I'd be going to lower league games as much as possible. p.s. Hanwell Town's wiki says they're in Southern League Premier Division South which forms the 7th and 8th tier of English football. (semi-pro)
I’ve always wondered if we cut a deal with the authorities such that they wouldn’t do anything mid-season.
oh dear. Why can’t these players just act normally? Mind you, it takes two to tango and it’s impossible to prove or deny any case unless u were there
We don't really need a conspiracy about the Met It comes up with a new scandal every week and flubs just about every rape case it sees - especially ones committed by its own officers
I make a habit of not clicking on Daily Mail, Mirror, Sun, etc. I'm assuming that there is no new news here, other than that they might've called him in for a "chat". If there's more to it than that, feel free to summarize. Is this still firmly in the MET's hands, and hasn't been referred to the judicial system because MET hasn't concluded its investigation or formally charged him?
You say "new" 3rd complaint, but the quote you included says the 3rd victim was reported in July 2022. So it took the 8 months to call him in for questioning about this 3rd complaint?? If so, this sounds like either incompetence or intentional dragging of heels.
Per the Daily Mail article: A third alleged victim has reported being sexually assaulted in Hertfordshire in February last year. So this alleged incident predates the allegations that came to light last summer, with the implication that it was only recently reported, since the player was only interviewed about the incident this February. I understand the delay, many rape victims never report their rapes. But Harvey Weinstein excepted, I believe most successful rape prosecutions are reported immediately and supported by post rape medical exams. Otherwise it becomes a he said, she said case. However, this is not a good look.
The new Feb 22 case was reported in July '22 according to the mail. The June 22 rape allegation has been dropped due to legal issues
Yeah, the 3rd reporting as of July was clear from your last post. Still the 8 month lag in questioning the defendant is a little head-scratching. But the 2nd part you wrote, that the previous/other rape accusation was dropped. I guess that didn't really register fully with me whenever that happened. Was it settled out of court or dropped due to lack of merit or ?? AND most importantly, what allegations are still standing against him? Just this newest (3rd) one reported in July??
