The UAE host Lebanon in Dubai for an international friendly game on Friday as they prepare for the upcoming Arabian Gulf Cup in January.

The Sons of Zayed will be in action against Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar in the group stages of the biennial tournament.

Rodolfo Arruabarrena's side have endured a difficult year in 2022, losing out to Australia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup play-offs before being run over in a few friendly games too.

Last month, the UAE picked up their first win in five games by beating Kazakhstan 2-1.

Lebanon, meanwhile, have played just once since the conclusion of their World Cup qualifiers - a friendly against Kuwait in November which ended in a 2-0 defeat.

Faisal Zayed scored a penalty in the 71st minute before Mohammad Bajeyah added a second 12 minutes later as the Cedars remained winless in 2022.

UAE NT recent injuries: Shaheen Abdulrahman & Tahnoon Al Zaabi got injured Abdulasam Mohamad & Bader Nasir called to replace them.

Rodolfo on not calling Ali Mabkhot: Teamwork is important and I am looking forward to experiment a new playing style that we have never shown before.

What kind of a team is UAE sending? Are they sending their full strength team to the Gulf Cup?

I don't know if I can say full strength due to the injuries, and 4 of them are starters, the main goal scorer got snubbed the coach favored Caio who been terrible since he joined Al Ain and is a benchwarmer in his club, 2 player disciplinary suspension on of them them the 3rd goalkeeper so doesn't really matter.

I'd say they sent whoever is ready and available a combination of youngsters and vets.

would've preferred Ittihad Kalba duo Ahmed Ammer 24y and Yaser Hasan 21y over Caio and Sebastian to gain experience after all the best player in the current squad is 20y Hareb Abdulla so why not give other young players a chance and keep 3 or 4 vets.

Major players missing due to injury
Ali Hasan Salmeen (all we know is his season is over and had an operation last week)
    Shaheen Abdulrahman (Hamstring injury)
    Mohamad Al Atas (ACL)
Tahnon Al Zaabi (Ankle injury, out for 2 weeks)
    Mohamad Jumaa (ACL)

Harib Abdullah Suhail among the top 25 U20 World Best players by IFFHS

The goal that introduced him to the world in the AFC CL

Probably his most important goal vs Korea

    shot vs Argentina pre WC

    assist in UAE's last game

not much clips I could find suddenly as if he played in the 80s

I don't know why such UAE talents don't have scouting report videos on youtube while unknown players from the UAE got some !!

anyways he reminds me of UAE & Al Wasl legend Zuhair Bakhit , with his pace & skills, specially when he plays on the right wing instead of the left but in the gulf cup he will be excepted to start on the left because of Fabio Lima who tbh becoming heavy and slow after the injuries I'd rather have Ali Saleh on the left & Hareb on the right.

Kuwait 1-0 UAE FT, & just like that the first GCC team to get eliminated from the tournament

    Rodolfo Arruabarrena

the only change he needed to make from the first game formation is bench Caio start Yahya or Old Sebastian, and who is Bader Nasir ? I never seen him the league how come he is a starter what's so impressive about him? Waleed Abbas is Shabab Al Ahli's LB + 3 DMF from the same club ??!! why does you didn't go with a young squad nor with the best squad what is the purpose of those games ? we are hosting the WAFF & going to the Asian cup like this after being back to back semifinalist this time its a first round exit for sure.

Ha, RIP Claude btw... If I'm not mistaken UAE are not actually eliminated as a 2 goal win over Qatar, coupled with Kuwait loss to Bahrain would actually see UAE through on goal difference (assuming that's the tie breaker). Also, Yemen were eliminated officially yesterday.

BTW - we're following the tournament here if anyone's interested - Gulf Cup 2023 | BigSoccer Forum

It was a shocking display. Caio did absolutely nothing. Bader was totally lost on the left flank of the defense. It was like me playing, not a NT player. Tigali did well. I remember when he set up an attack from his own half and then it was in the opposition box to receive the cross, but Ali Saleh or A. Ramadan's delivery was straight in the keepers hands.

Sharjah Ruler to cut funding for football clubs failing to promote Emirati talent

Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, has said he will cut funding to the emirate's professional football clubs unless greater effort is made to increase Emirati representation.

Sheikh Dr Sultan said he will take action by the end of the month if he believes sufficient steps are not being taken to promote home-grown talent.

He made the comments during the live radio programme Al Khat Al Mubasher (The Direct Line) on Monday.

Sheikh Dr Sultan compared UAE's history-making achievements in reaching the Fifa World Cup in 1990 to its disappointing group stage exit at the Arabian Gulf Cup on Friday.

“I remember in the past we reached the World Cup in Italy and scored against Germany,” he said.

“We didn’t bring expatriates or foreigners. During the recent international tournament, we didn’t have good results.”

    Ruler offers funding warning
He called on sports clubs in Sharjah to give more opportunities to local players even if results do not immediately follow.

“Every club costs Dh50 million and they asked for an increase in the budget,” he said.

“I want to see my children in these clubs. Even if they don’t bring results I want them to spend their time in the clubs.

He said Emiratis are struggling for playing time because of the number of overseas players in squads.

“Football decision makers should check the recent results and answer us,” Sheikh Dr Sultan said.

“People talking about recent results. It is better if we develop our children.”

Last year, the UAE Pro League increased from four to five the number of foreign players allowed in squads.

This compares with other international leagues which have no caps on overseas players.

Chelsea became the first English Premier League side to select a starting 11 without a single British player in 1999. London rivals Arsenal named the league's first all-foreign match day squad six years later.

It is common for leading sides in many European leagues to field teams largely made up of overseas players.

Eid Baroot, an Emirati former coach, said on Sharjah TV that it was crucial for the nation to develop more local players for the success of the national side.

“If the situation remains the same, with increasing foreigners and expatriate players then within five years we won’t have a national team,” he said.

“We need to support and to train the Emirati players and local coaches and we will get great results.”

Emiratis on social media supported Sheikh Dr Sultan's position.

“My nephew is in the youth team and he is not playing at all despite the team losing in most of the matches. He is now sitting at home and upset,” said Emirati fan Ahmed Mohammed.

“The sport council should have data for the number of Emirati and expatriate players in the clubs and make an Emiratisation target,” said Faisal Al Awadi on Instagram.

I fully agree. I don't understand that decision with expats counting as local players in the league. Is not a good call at all. Should have maintained the foreign quota of 4 like before and just that.

sorry for the late respond but regard this u23 I most of the players don't have playing times with their clubs except Yasser Hassan who starts regularly for Ittihad Kalba, Rakan Walid got some good experience whe Ali Khsaif was injured and Ahmed Fawzi showed some potential he is the brother of 2012 Olympic team member Mohamad Fawzi

they had good results so far 1-0 against the host Qatar & 4 against Vietnam, better than the struggling first team who failed to score against Tajikistan
