A Utah Dem tried to get included in a water conservation law that certain businesses or business sectors had to report water usage, one of them being golf courses. Needless to say, it did not pass.

 

The rich need playgrounds after all - definitely more important than poor people having access to water.

 

Not that I want to express too much sympathy for golf courses, which I generally find a tremendous waste of space, but most of them use reclaimed water in California.

 

Well, that's what the 6 state proposal does. California's counter proposal was to cut off the municipalities and to follow the "law of the river" rules, which is what I'm calling first come, first serve. As a result of this, California farmers would be guaranteed their current water rights levels first, then the farmers from each state would be guaranteed their current water rights levels based on when the state started diverting water, then the municipalities would be given whatever water was left.

 

There are five golf courses in San Francisco.

 

Obviously, they are really close to solving the issue.

Sorry, I was operating under the possibility that the 6-state solution would be renegotiated to accommodate municipal use if California was at the table. I think there would be mob-like hits if California politicians and civil servants drastically changed the water rights laws without the Fed forcing their hand. Hell, there still may be.

 

Not a part of California that uses water from the Colorado River Basin.

 

Yeah, but it's certainly an example of wasting space. Some of the most expensive land in the world, and you have this massive sterile acreage being enjoyed by just a few dozen people at a time.

 

From what I understand, the 6-state solution was a total solution for the entire basin. The non-California states just hoped that by presenting a unified front, CA would be more amendable to accepting their solution. What they didn’t account for was California giving them the middle finger and saying “FU!”

I also suspect that the states hoped that by having an agreement amongst themselves the Feds would adopt their plan vs the current Fed solution which is to impose a 25% cut. I believe it was to be focused on the lower basin, but don’t hold me to that.

 

I understood it as #2. It was clear California was going to go it’s own way from the get-go.

 

I think I see as many people walking at the former golf course in San Geronimo Valley as I used to see playing golf there.

 

As an avid golfer I can assure you most golf courses are not a waste of space.

Especially courses like Pebble Beach and the other courses on the Monterrey Peninsula.

 

I’m not sure that makes your argument more persuasive to a non-golfer.

 

As an avid non-golfer, I AM sure that it does not make the argument more persuasive.

 

Oh definitely. California isn't technically required to do anything since existing law benefits them.

 

But how many people do they serve? They take up about the space that Golden Gate Park does, but that serves so many people in so many ways and has room for a little bit of nature as well.

 

Or, going to a library or a movie theater or pretty much any leisure time activity. Most don't take up hundreds of acres of pristine land and require ridiculous amounts of upkeep.

 

There has been a @Knave sighting! I guess he took a second to stop gnawing the meat off of some poor traveler's thigh to chime in on the most pressing of issues: the importance, popularity, and talent of various musicians.

How are things now in and around Tahoe? The last 10 days have been an absolute dream in SLC.

 

We've got a storm that hits tonight/tomorrow. I'll switch mine out after that. Odd, considering I've been using my eBike all last week.

 

After spending a week in CA on vacation, I have a question for those that live in CA.. Do you not know that the right lane in a 2-lane highway exists? I was in the Santa Barbara area for a week and I noticed that once a car got into the left lane, they never left that lane, even if they were going slower than the cars in the right lane. The only times I saw a car move from the left lane to the right lane was if they came upon a slower moving car in the left lane, or to exit the highway.

 

I saw the signs, but it definitely wasn't followed at all.
