Modric was coming off the bench for some games in his first season, and he was 27-ish when he joined.
Tchouameni will be fine lol....He's a special talent. At his age he held down France's DM spot all the way to the World Cup final... this is no ordinary guy. Be a little patient. The sooner we start playing this guy alongside Camavinga ...the better. Could be an amazing duo for the next 10 years.
Thats a bit harsh. Hes a long term investment, so the jury won't be out for a while. He has shown quality so far. But its still perfectly legitimate to question him. We paid a fortune for him, so the whole "hes young so its normal to be inconsistent" shit doesn't fly. Theres a reason why many were not happy with the fee we paid for him.
I’m not worried for him at all. He’s got all the physical and technical tools in his locker. Size, speed, strength, passing accuracy, press resistance. All it takes is sharpening up the decision making and that will come with added experience. I want him to take more risk. Try and thread the needle more with progressive passes. I also don’t think it’s justified for Ancelotti to bench him. It’s not like the other midfielders besides Camavinga have shown any consistency of late. If anything, some of the others have been downright liabilities. I want Aurelien and Eduardo starting together every game the rest of the way.
This must be the locker room politics from the senior players to keep getting more starts than they deserve. We keep seeing this over and over again in sports.
If I was Tchumeni or Ceballos, I’d be chuffed not getting playing time seeing how Kroos, Modric and Fede have been poor as of late.
The question is why are we playing two slower older midfielders in together in back-to-back games and leaving a younger talent like Tchouameni on the bench? I have been consistent with blame on Florentino but man does Ancelotti and his fear (which leads to over-reliance on older players) need to take some blame as well. I don't know how many more times he needs to see Kroos and Modric get torched by barca for him to realize they shouldn't play against them together again. Then the fact he is going to shoe-horn Camavinga into being a DM when Camavinga's best attributes is his versatility and ability to make offensive runs AND passes. If he made them a double pivot with Modric in the hole, Benzema above (he is practically a retiree at this point) and Valverde and Vinicius wide, we would have something. Instead he trots out the team that can only show intensity and play a high level match once every couple of weeks and only for something like CL.
Yeah, once I saw Kroos and Modric starting again after the midweek CL match, I knew we were in trouble. Just not smart management.
Yup. Just a really bad management decision by Carlo. Unfortunately there's been a few of these by him this season. I was very surprsied to see the line up for the Clasico because the CL lineup made me think Tchou was being rested for the Bracelona game. It didn't help Carlo and his innate tendencies after the two old heads actually played well against Liverpool. Seeing Camavinga at DM with Kroos AND Modric really surprised me. This was team selection based on vibes not any sense. There isn't even the excuse of not have good reinforcements in this area of the pitch, its one of our strengths but the coach really didn't do us any favors.
Carlo is one of the GOAT coaches. But yeah, sometimes his selections really seem to be based on vibes. Works in UCL but not in La Liga this season.
Carlo is meh when it comes to domestic dominance. Tourneys on the other hand makes him a GOAT candidate coach. Thats why I think he'll make a fine NT manager.
I personally think foreign coaches rarely work, but then again the absolute GOAT is a German coach in charge of a non German national team so who knows.
I surely didn't want to see both Luka and Toni starting games together this season, considering we had younger quality talent to expose and Tchou is quality, he'll get that consistency, but I imagine for Carlo if you have players on your team who have more often than not won for you and you are under pressure to win who do you choose from a bunch where no one has been particularly outstanding on a consistent basis, we have seen it, just being young is no guarantee of winning or better football, we are Madrid we have to win at all costs all the time, and even though that's not really possible the fans and management demand it, that surely factors in to the decisions that coach makes.
I think Camavinga plays the DM position better than Tchou. I’d like to see him play a bit higher with Camavinga behind him since he’s more of a workhorse. I’ve seen Tchou be a bit lazy sometimes tracking back.

Maybe I'm reading a bit into it too much but perhaps Carlo benched Tchou for Camavinga to show Deschamps that Camavinga is a capable MF'er who should get called up to start and play in his best position. Also showing Camavinga the confidence he has in him despite his NT team coaches decisions. ***Conspiracy theory alert!!!*** maybe Tchou didn't show sufficient loyalty when Benzemagate part III with the France team popped off because he stayed silent and this is all part of the reward/punishment push pullies going on from the two sides.
Yeah, you're definitely reading into it too much if you think Carlo would jeopardize his job to push Camavinga's NT career.
Well maybe Carlo didn't consider it a risk and wanted to reward Camavinga for these, similar or other reasons (and Tchou became the make weight).
I don't think either player are DMs, but I think Camavinga is better higher up, whereas Tchouameni should be an 8. Or in a double pivot. Camavinga is very young with a lot of potential so perhaps he could develop into a 6 but it'd be a shame, he's got a lot to offer in joining the attack.
