The rumors are that Southgate met with him about a month ago and told him he would be called up for the English Senior team and then he ghosted him and did not call him up. The US can present the idea that he would gain lots more endorsements if he choses the US vs Nigeria.
And a team of young, promising players, all near his age, many of whom have African heritage like he does.

One thing about Nigeria, their federation is not in the best shape financially. Their coach has been told he has to limit call ups from Europe because they don’t have the money to bring in as many as he’d like https://www.espn.com/soccer/nigeria...iers-controversy-surrounds-super-eagles-squad Peseiro had previously consistently named 25-man squads, composed mostly of Europe-based players, but a senior member of the NFF board told ESPN that the coach was now under direction to call-up no more than 20 players from Europe, and the remainder must come from the domestic league "We cannot afford to invite so many players from Europe any more because we need to be very judicious in our use of the limited funds we have," the board member said. "Peseiro can call as many players as he wants, but only 20 can come from abroad. If he needs any more, he should get them from the local league." That restriction has seen the Portuguese name three players from the domestic league, including two goalkeepers and a defender from the under-20 team. Going forward, this is expected to be the norm, with local players expected to become more prominent in future squad selections. I feel like it’s not the most attractive thing to play for a federation that doesn’t have the money to bring in all the players it wants to. With Southgate I sort of wonder if he possibly got word that Ivan Toney’s punishment is not expected to be that bad. Because Toney definitely deserves a call up, it’s just a question of whether he’s facing a suspension or not.
He's going to listen to the English FA unless and until he decides to make a one time switch. ::shrug::
Balogun pulls out of the u21 squad with an injury (tho lots of Twitter comments that he's switching).
There does not appear to be any concrete evidence of a switch, but his instagram post was eye-raising on its own. This is just an additional piece of information, but it is kind of what you’d expect if he were closely considering switching.
He uploaded a picture in Orlando, that building looks familiar. It's called Pubs pub. 317 N Orange Ave Orlando, FL 32801 https://www.instagram.com/p/CqGb27cOMLy/
Highly possible Balogun is in Orlando to attend camp and get a feel for the guys, not to play, commit and get tied. Similar to Musah a couple of summers ago.Even if, still a great sign and I love this group of guys ability to Kirby Smart the hell out of it.— Marcus Chairez (@chai_asc) March 22, 2023
29 who is friends with Wes says Flo is out at a private dinner with the players. And as I said Sunny Florida is a good place to heal a bruised ego.
Noooo!!!! His heart says England. Has always said England. You want him to think analytically, pragmatically and realistically. If he thinks with his heart we are screwed.
