I guess someone paid this old clown $ to recite the Liddle Teapot song. Next stop is blowing commuters outside the Lincoln Tunnel.

I've been saying this for a while--one thing the rise of Trump exposed is the complete lack of self-respect among so much of the GOP elite.

This was a fascinating aspect of Millers book as he laid out the back story of some of them

There is a saying. "To have self-respect you must do respectable things"
The application to the current Republican party is obvious.

The Mrs doesn't fully understand how our Bible Trumpers (of all stripes) are so into Cheeto. So I said "their religion is worn like a fancy fur coat or driven around like a new Caddy. It's performative for the neighbors. IRL so many of them are rotten, anti-Christians and he is their North Star"

Related to this is the recent New York Times article 20 Years On, a Question Lingers About Iraq: Why Did the U.S. Invade? (non paywall version). No mention at all of their own substantial part in helping to bring it about.

20 years on it isn't going to be the same writers and editors is it? Just new people with access to old files...

Were those people fired for lying? Should the Times care that their reputation means something?

The NYT has been going down the tubes even more since 2003. So no, they obviously don't care about the readers who made them what they are.

Let's see what a famous transcriber is up to, shall we?

On April 3, 2015, The Wall Street Journal published an op-ed piece by Miller in which she defended her comportment during the lead-up to the war in Iraq, as well as the Bush administration's stance and decisions regarding the war. "Officials [of the Bush administration] didn't lie, and I wasn't fed a line," she wrote. Miller acknowledged that "there was no shortage of mistakes about Iraq, and I made my share of them. The newsworthy claims of some of my prewar WMD stories were wrong", but rejected the notion that "I took America to war in Iraq. It was all me", which according to her "continue[d] to have believers".

Critics subsequently wrote that "Miller's war reporting was disastrously wrong, and now she's trying desperately to spin it all away,". Valerie Plame commented that while "no one is crediting [Miller] with starting the Iraq war," and she was "not actually on the team that took us into the biggest, most tragic US foreign policy debacle ever..., [Miller's] attempt to re-write history is both pathetic and self-serving."

Like how these ghouls who knowingly lied a country into a M.E. disaster blithely say "mistakes were made"

IIRC Bushies fed crap like the aluminum tubes stories to journos like Miller. She published them and they used the articles to say "See! We have to attack" Typical Republican devilishness.

I honestly don't agree with this based on my time as an evangelical.

It's more that their focus is on preventing other people from engaging in what they consider sin (specifically the two big issues to them - gays and abortion) so that they can be saved (mind you, there is an inherent contradiction here in that not sinning isn't what saves you). As a result, there is a built-in "holier than thou" attitude. Their objective is to force everyone to engage in certain behavior related to gays (don't be gay) and abortion (don't kill "babies"). They're willing to ignore Trump's actual behavior because he enables them to force people into engaging in "appropriate" behavior regarding gays and abortion.

Maybe it's splitting hairs on how Normals view Evangelicals & other Do As I Say Based on 2,000 y.o. Fairytales denominations. They've been a force for evil in my lifetime so I don't have anything nice to say about them TBH.
