Well if a NATO member is attacked I don't think it goes to the security council, NATO would just respond (I think).

But is not as simple, I am sure if ISI were to attack Turkey, Basar (Syria Pres.) would claim that is not him and that he is willing to help NATO fight ISI if NATO helps him deal with the "Terrorists". By terrorists he would mean everyone that is opposed to him, Islamic or secular.

Yes the CIA secretly trains all terrorists in the world, that is an old talking point.

I think it's more than a talking point. I think it goes back to the old adage "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
of course as soon as the common enemy disappears or is no longer a threat, your old friend may well become your new enemy. unintended, but certainly not unforeseen (for anyone with even a modicum of knowledge of history and geopolitical savvy) consequences.

I think the US would gladly use an ISIS incursion into Turkey and Turkey's request for help to expand the air war against ISIS into Turkey and Syria. but I don't think the political mood in the country currently would support sending combat troops - outside of maybe some special ops advisers - which of course is a slippery slope.

Remember the US supported different groups to fight Assad in Syria. Weapon, money and other things. One of those groups allegedly was ISIS. The base supposedly was or is in Jordan.

Yeah. Another "example" is Israel and Hamas. At one point, Israel feared Arafat greatly. They supported different groups to check his power. Guess who was one of them

"A US soldier who deserted to avoid serving in the Iraq war and claimed asylum in Germany because he believed the war to be illegal has to prove that the US was committing war crimes in Iraq to qualify as a refugee, Europe’s highest court has ruled."

So basically a court in Munich has to find out whether or not war crimes were committed by American troops in Iraq. @Timon19 human dignity rulez, doesnt it?

I haven't the foggiest idea why you're addressing me here. What is your actual question, if you indeed have one?

Free speech -> human dignity-> no war -> no war crimes.
Free speech -> no human dignity-> war -> war crimes.
    Do you see it?

    Bump...

14th Anniversary of the start of Bushie's Glorious Mideast Adventure. What does one give for such an occasion? How about a limited edition signed painting of a Wounded Warrior?

Holy crap just watched Iraq Uncovered on PBS. Shiite militias are working with government forces to drive out ISIS. And they're using it as cover to abuse & kill local Sunnis. Especially young men. Of course Iran is throwing its weight behind the militias.

One thing you can't help but notice is just how bombed out every town the reporter visits is. I had assumed after years of rebuilding in Iraq things had improved. But it looked quite bleak in the places that were shown.

    1) Well, to be fair, shit gets blown up just about as fast as it was/is built.

    2) We spent enough money in I/A just on rebuilding to fundamentally transform the public infrastructure in this country, eliminate and replace every substandard dwelling & school in the country and probably reduce unemployment to near zero

    But we chose not to.

Dubya should also branch out and do paintings of the packs of Iraqi kids clawing at each other for food packages dropped off the backs of trucks. Keep his fake empathy levels high as he slinks toward old age.

The 5th Parlament election in Iraq just happened, so here are a few articles about it.

I mean the Democratic Iraq still has massive problems, but after s bad decision of using lies to invade a country to depose an murderous dictator, at least some end results are not looking so bad, even if the means were not good.

The Iraq invasion remains the most frustrated and helpless I’ve ever felt about an action taken by my country’s government. Still pisses me off.

And I’m not including Trump’s election, that was more frustration at the dumb********ery of my fellow countrymen.

I will always consider Bush, Blair, Cheney, Rummy, etc. war criminals. Putin even points to Iraq to prop up his Ukraine invasion. "neener-neener! well the US did it"

    Agree 100%

We marched in London with a million others, then Tony Blair went on TV that night to say we were misguided. The arrogance of that muthafacker ...

    Still mad about it

I maintain the Iraq war was where US semi-fascism really took wing

A sprawling nationalist war against vague enemies that was always bound to turn inwards

I’ve forgotten now, was it “Weapons of mass destruction” or Later when they failed to find any and changed their war cry to “Sadam is a Madman”
But that ‘War’ was over by May 1, just 6 weeks later.
