Is it really thought of as a great movie? It is well known since it has been shown all of the time forever. (I think the studio let its copyright lapse)
I edited out the "3500 lines of text" It was nominated for Best Picture and 6 Oscars overall. It won the Golden Globe. It has a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes (95% Audience Score) It is the "most beloved" Christmas movie of all time. Okay, you asked for it. Here is the short version. I have despised the movie since I was a kid. I actually watched most of it a bar over the holidays and it reminded me why I dislike it so much. It is clear from the very beginning that George Bailey lived a fairly extraordinary life, so his whole "I've done nothing..." whinging is attention-seeking crap. If it was apparent that lived with a mental health issue such as depression, my attitude would be different. However, there is no indication of that.
I was thinking that earlier today. I'm all for that. That part of It's a Wonderful Life is based on the bank runs of the Great Depression. And, yes, I know there are problems with that part of the movie (have only learned about them in the last year or so). Do you have any other problems with the movie?
If anyone wanted to know where the lie about SVB giving $73 million to Black Lives Matter came from, here it is: https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblo...ehind-that-database-on-corprate-giving-to-blm
No need to "pray" for me! Of course, I have heart; it's not even buried. I just don't fall for sentimentalist crap. However, George Bailey (except for being "talked off the bridge," which I would do under the circumstances), is not in need. He is an upper middle-class, married man, a hero, and beloved by everyone in the town. If he is "hopeless," the rest of us don't stand a friggin' chance.
Oh c'mon with this horseshit https://www.axios.com/2023/03/17/svb-employees-blame-remote-work-for-bank-failure
Axios tryna out Politico, Politico. What has happened to these news sites. These two then TAC, I use to read all of them during the week, no I don't bother
The intended audience heard it, swallowed it whole and regurgitated to the followers. Where it became the truth.
Credit stocks all over the world crashing. Someone who knows more than me on the topic please help explain what is going on.
I suspect it's a recalibration of risk in that area of the market. A knee jerk reaction to the UBS/Credit Suisse deal in which a lot bond holders have essentially be wiped out, but equity holders should be okay in the long run. Investors will be digesting what this means to them in the bigger picture. The down turn today is very much specific to bank stocks. On the whole, markets are generally slightly up around the world.
@JohnR @ChrisSSBB Anyone else? My guess is that people like Sharon Stone are diversifying their risk, where they were probably over-invested in bank shares?
