Also, this New Yorker article from last June: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/...e-donald-trump-as-the-gops-combatant-in-chief
To put it this way, DeSantis acts and sounds like Trump but has constant two alarm fires over Trump's constant five alarm fires. Neither are good honestly, but there's a small contingent of people who want a generic pol with Trump's policies, but without Trump's distractions.
Oh agree - there is a large group who like Trump but worry about his electability But i meant these are two rakes for RDS in a presidential run. He managed to stay out of stuff like abortion, the insurrection etc Ironically Trump is well positioned on abortion - he ran as a moderate on that in '16 as well and is now blaming the GOP pols and judges for being too extreme on it
That is what I hope is pointed out. Any fully went along with put in the handmaiden in place a month before the election, then Gorsuch for Garland and fought tooth and nail including internally destroying the Kavanaugh investigation. I mean fax don't matter but it's going to be hard for him to run away from that for Country Club Republicans to come home, if they want to win although I'm sure most of them fully believe abortion is a crime anyway.
Tweet apologies but my God this man is just awkward on so many levels. And it's obvious this man hasn't played ball since college. This might be a good idea if he weren't wearing a suit and damn dumb high heels and he could do it without stammering. Put Bush on a baseball field it's the only time he's ever looked happy and at ease. https://t.co/vzgzFSDNoK— Richard M. Nixon (@dick_nixon) March 13, 2023
I hope the Biden people are smart enough within a week or two to release a video of Biden or just a t-shirt on playing catch with his grandson taking questions.
The whole idea of doing an interview while tossing a baseball is so contrived. It is at least as bad as Dukakis riding on that tank or APC during the '88 campaign.
They are creating such a well crafted image for him that he will be torn to shreds by Trump. In Rugby, we have a lot of set piece please to start the game and attack from. There are players who are really good at attacking from a set piece but when things go Helter skelter and you have to attack from open Play, they lack the creativity in their mind to make the chaos into an opportunity to spot a gap and score. This is DeSantis. He reminds me of when you will watch kids from the military colleges play rugby. Their attacking players would be absolutely fit but as soon as a guided unstructured they were so well drilled on structure play they had no idea how to adlib and make something happen. Trump is all about unstructured play and because of that there's going to come the moments in the debate that we've all seen and expect and he's going to have no answer for that because at some point he's got to take Trump on and Trump thrives in unstructured play which to Republican voters is what feels natural. Actually I found a soccer metaphor. He is trying to do a Greece at the Euros. Just win on set piece play and defend.
Not sure if there's a DeSantis metaphor here, but I read earlier this week about the worst international rugby match ever, 60 years ago this month. https://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-union/64584534 Scotland 0-6 Wales at Murrayfield. The "highlight"? 60,000 fans in freezing temperatures were treated to 111 lineouts. That's not a typo.
By the time I could regularly get rugby matches on TV, those kinds of matches were pretty rare, and that never happened in any rugby game I played in. As a second row guy in college . . . Thank God. 111 lineouts would get pretty tiring. The closest thing I saw in soccer soccer (having been mercifully spared West Germany v. Austria in 1982) was a goalless Brazilian league match a bit over 20 years ago featuring something like 75 fouls. So I was told by the commentator at the end, because I nodded off at least three times.
Oh geez, I posted the pic but forgot to actually post what I went into this thread to post. Anyways, Meatball Ron downplays the Russia-Ukraine war, while devaluing the need for US aid. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023...antis-calls-ukraine-war-a-territorial-dispute Furthermore, the newly-formed Reedy Creek improvement district, with Meatball-appointed board members, had its first meeting last week. https://www.wftv.com/news/local/ree...ing-first-meeting/RH7Q7YLV5RBL3NZTROV3XBYELY/ There were two deviations from the normal meeting that I am going to highlight So the law firm that wrote the bill to dissolve the Disney district gets appointed as the attorney. Bridget Ziegler is a founder of Moms For Liberty. Also, the reason for the concern is there is no mask or vaccine mandate with Disney, at least for the visitors. I am pretty sure the employees for Disney are not required to vaccinate as well. Essentially, she wants to ban something that isn't happening EDIT - As an aside, why are the organizations that stuff patriotic words in their title are the ones you have to watch out for? Oath Keepers, Faith and Family Alliance, Moms for Liberty, the Heritage Foundation. I feel that there is an inverse relationship between the number of patriotic synonyms an org uses and wanting to curtail other people's freedoms.
A tried and true tactic of tinpots everywhere. North Korea is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. East Germany was the German Democratic Republic. Any country professing to be both democratic and republican was neither. So it is with oath keepers and their ilk.
Are you saying that the masses exercising their will through the mechanism of the Party's control over the State is not the purest form of rule by the people? Sounds like bourgeoisie revisionism, comrade. Care to explain yourself?
Those were the days where the wingers had to piss on their hands to stay warm. Now the game's gone soft.
