Guys, the Revolution logo is a joke. It isn't a crest. It looks like (rap. Seriously. It's crayola on paper, how anyone can like that is beyond me.

Agree completely about the Revs logo. Not among the best, I'm afraid. For those needing a review of the league logos, check out the following (sans the new crest for the Metros):

    http://www.mlsnet.com/teams/

    There are definitely two tiers:

    Tier 1 (Good)

    1. Metros
    2. Earthquakes
    3. Crew
    4. DC United
    5. Fire

    Tier 2 (Bad)

    6. Revolution
    7. Galaxy
    8. Burn
    9. Rapids
    10. Wizards

The Fusion had a great logo.

Well, I have always been a big fan of the Revs' logo, but, times and styles change and I think the time has come to start considering something new. As other clubs start to improve and streamline to traditional crests, I'd like to see the Revs do the same. The Revs was one of the original best.

Here's my take on best to worst. Good. Not too Bad. And, really needs work.

    1. MetroStars
    2. Chicago
    3. DC United
    4. LA Galaxy

    5. KC Wizards

    6. SJ Quakes
    7. Crew
    8. Revs
    9. Burn
    10. Rapids

What is this new Metro logo that's being mentioned here? If it's what's on mlsnet, isn't that the "old" alternate Metro logo that has always appeared in the middle of the shirt?

Uh, nevermind, found it on metrostars.com. Would have seen it if I'd scrolled down far enough to see another thread.

It is MUCH better than the exploding skyscrapers... not perfect, but MUCH MUCH better.

I just think the name EARTHQUAKES is rediculous. I much prefered Clash. Quakes are cheesy and very non-soccer like, well maybe AMerican soccer like but very unsoccer like in a worldy way.

The Rapids logo is stupid. Has nothing to do with soccer.

MLS has come a long way since 96, the unis were horrendous back then with the designs being very Flintsone jaggadegy for some reason. ANyone have pics of the original unis?

Metros new logo is better than all of them, including DCs, which is good but far too Euro. Metros logo blends American sports tradition with soccer tradition in a way none of the other logos do.

    Agreed: 1,2,3.

As for the Galaxy, what is that? That logo is hideous, along with Flash Gordon their mascot.
Sorry to be nagative, but the rest all need work. Have always disliked the Crew rap group/construction workers/Village People thing, although I like the shape of the crest. Dallas? What's with the fire-breathing horse? And the Wizards always reminds me of the flags at Gay Pride Day, (not that there's anything wrong with that!).
I sort of agree with usbfc about the Revs. I am sort of partial to it, but it now needs work, I'm afraid.

(Disclaimer: "the above does not in any way reflect how I feel towards the teams and their supporters"...thank you)

Yeah, DC, Chicago, and Metros have got this one.

My Galaxy? It's more like that bad graphic weathermen used for Hurricanes in the 70's.

Now, if the Burn gave the horse some wings, then I could see it tying into that whole Dallas/Pegasus thing they got going over there (they're EVERYWHERE).

The Crew should go more "avant-Soviet style".

The Revs was a good design, but it's so 20th century.

Wizards, Quakes, Rapids, you're screwed. Sorry.

<sniff> That WAS beautiful in all it's forms. So cool.

Their first jerseys, on the other hand, were another story.

Here's my ranking of the current:

    1. DC United - went from worst to first
    2. Chicago - the C's kinda lame in execution otherwise it's the best
    3. The OLD Metros logo, or better yet their 'M' logo
    4. Galaxy - the shuriken/speaker is cool!
    6. The Burn logo - das right, wasabi horse is good!
    7. Earthquakes - big soccer ball is lame
    8. Wizards - good, but gay
    9. Crew - good, but gay
    9. Revolution - bad, but even our #9 isn't horrible.
    10. Rapids - professional, but just too lame.

Hope I didn't offend anybody, "Gay" is just not my favorite pro sports theme.

Having said that, the new Metros logo is as lame(lifeless, generic) and poorly executed as any logo MLS has yet devised.

The people who design these logos need to realize that the key is to keep it simple.
    NO supernatural animals
    NO human silhouettes
    NO cheesy wildnerness scenes
NO "I just dropped acid and I'm staring into the toilet" scenes
    and finally...
    NO Hippie art!!!

Why does everyone dislike the Rapids logo. just because it dosnt have a freakin soccer ball in it? or isnt in some shield shape? its a great looking professionaly done logo. the logo say colorado with the mountians and Rapids with the rapids obviously. so what more could you want? it looks just as good as any of the logos in the top 4 sports. not every logo needs a soccer ball in it. i actually think that looks minor league just look at most of the logos of the top 4 leagues.

The Rapids logo is fine if you want to go camping or stay at the Overlook hotel. It looks like an advertisement for a resort, not the image of a respectable football club. The soccer ball isnt even an issue. Besides if a soccer ball were in the scene itd be floating away in the river, or stuck on top of the mountain.
Also, there is a difference between how soccer fans want their logos and the "top 4 sports" represent their teams. Soccer logos should look timeless. Not something from the future or an image people cant relate to. Soccer fans want their logo to look like the symbol for an exclusive club. Something classy with a touch of nobility, because we're snobs like that. A lame nature scene just doesnt cut it.

A good logo is like pornography. I can't define it, but I know it when I see it. And if it's done well, then it's time to strip down and grab the Vaseline.

You probably didn't need to know that about me.

But just as it's pointless for non-fans to criticize a team's logo, it's also pointless to come up with hard and fast rules.

Examples? I thought you'd never ask. You're the most convenient, McTell, nothing personal:

NO supernatural animals - Lions walking on their forelegs, for example? How about Venezia's lion with wings? Newcastle's seahorses? I guess technically Man U's devil isn't an "animal."

NO human silhouettes - Sampdoria? Olympiakos? Atalanta? Ajax?

NO cheesy wildnerness scenes - Like, that shamrock on Celtic's shirt? West Brom's little bird on a branch? Blackburn's rose? Southampton's tree?

NO "I just dropped acid and I'm staring into the toilet" scenes - Bayer Leverkusen actually has a pill in their logo.

    and finally...
    NO Hippie art!!!
    - You explain Sheffield Wednesday's logo any other way, then.

But I think we can all agree the Fusion logo really, really sucked.

    *reads thread*

So much stupidity, so little time...

Looks like somebody's been ridin' the short bus down the information superhighway. So nice to see school districts unafraid to spend a little bit of the technology funds on the Special Ed class.

How the hell is Earthquakes "cheesy and very non-soccer like", but a lobster/scoprion named Clash is preferable? At least the name Earthquakes HISTORY and TRADITION (two things that seem to send snobs like BWMcTell into fits of orgasmic rapture), whereas Clash sounds like the kind of trying-to-be-cool, not-with-it "extreme additude" you'd expect from a third-string, amatuer roller hockey league.

Yeah, cause we wouldn't want to look anything like MLB or the NBA. Everybody knows those are bush league outfits that the American sports fan public or the media wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole.

Soccer fans in general aren't snobs. Whiney little bitches such as yourself who like to complain and hear their own voices, THOSE are the snobs. People who aren't fans of soccer, but are fans of pretending to be a fan of a niche sport cause it gives them an excuse for them to look down their noses at those they consider to be less worthy, THOSE are the snobs. It's not suprising that when these type of people try to "fix" MLS, they suggest things that any twat with half a brain would instantly recognize as something that would hinder the growth of pro soccer in America, and keep it a niche sport.

The new Metros logo is a vast improvement on what was the worst logo ever. I actually don't mind the Galaxy's logo, but I so wonder whether it was based on the old Cosmos logo (note the swirl). Of the shields, the Crew's is pretty bad--I can't help but see that first guy as McBride--but the Quakes might be worse. Of the non-shields, the Fire's crest is the best. The Wizards' is horrible. The Rapids' is better, but it looks like a sign for an amusement park.
