We don't have solid chance creation inside the box. That has been gone since CR7 left, made worse by Casemiro leaving. Who is heading in the million crosses that Dani, Fede and Kroos will be mailing in daily? Rudiger and Militao can get in there but then we're hella exposed.

Camavinga is solid defensively, but he is a liability without adequate cover. His decision making on the ball is very poor and he gives away the ball in too many risky positions. He did the same against Liverpool, but was lucky that the team recovered.

Let's be honest here, this is Real Madrid's normal level. The performance against Liverpool and RB Leipzig in the CL first round earlier were the outliers.

There are still more matches to go, maybe someone will emerge the hero like Benzema did at the end of last season.

I just don't get where all the optimism is coming from though?

Zero shots on target in 90 minutes and "we dominated" is the takeaway from this shit? Really?

I need to smoke whatever those guys are smoking.

Our setpieces and crosses are so bad with Benzema refusing to be in the box and bad delivery too.

Bunch of weirdos… at least spell doom when the tie is over. This is the point… we live, we die, we live again…

We are probably so successful at this juncture that just winning doesn’t do it anymore, we need to suffer.

Alaba clearly to blame for the loss today. Team morale at a low point and whose to blame the players when you know there are guys in the locker room who you can't depend on to have your back.

It is what it is but even Mr. Good Guy Carletto himself can't dispel what's going through the players heads at the moment.

Sheesh. What an absolute waste of time, don't have anything to add about the match that I'm sure hasn't already been said in here.

And outside of the Champions League, I am seriously fed up with Vini. The guy creates 90% of his own problems, dude is a write off this season.

What a limp dick/flat tire performance.

between being second best to like every 50/50 ball and what felt like misplaced passes every minute, totally unwatchable

Aside from Anfield has there been a single legitimately good performance since November?

Yeah the people who are saying we created chances must’ve been watching a different game than I was.

Sheesh, reading these comments you would think we got absolutely smashed, not 0-1 on an own goal with xG at 0.56 to 0.63.

But we lost, so as I expected, the thread is filled with shitposts from @AppleBob86

When we start acting like losing is winning, that's when the team has hit a new low. This stings, but we acknowledge it's a two game tie. Live and learn, but please spare us the bullshit of "oh, at least we played well.".

Idk what game these people were watching but there was zero substance in front of goal. All the shots were going effing nowhere. We need a poacher. We need someone who can get to the three million crosses that come in when Benzema can't be bothered and Vinicius is getting pocketed by a proper defender.

Ffs, any loss to Barcelona is extra shit. Carlo is looking like an idiot trying to explain how "we played well". Give us the dang end product! I will take winning ugly against Basuralona, Mourinho style, over losing pretty.

Gavi and Kessie over here outmuscling our lads to every 50-50 ball. Where was the venom?

Also, Vini Jr needs to play the ball instead of looking to go to ground in every touch. He made that look so easy for Xavi and co. They know a featherweight touch will see him tumble to the floor and they took full advantage of his propensity to dive like Neymar 2.0

The next game is in two weeks. If they don't produce a proper response, they are gonna get flayed by the Bernabeu and everyone else.

Couldn’t watch because of work and obviously the result sucks. Why didn’t Ceballos play? Seems odd.

The game was absolutely horrible to be honest. One of the worst matches between the two teams in years.

This game was so underwhelming, most neutrals are considering that second half against Liverpool a fluke. It was more about "Liverpool imploding" than "Real Madrid upping the ante". There's two more clasicos to go. If they have games like these, all the good graces from the CWC and the Liverpool tie will evaporate very fast.

What makes it egregious is that Barca was without Pedri, Lewandowski and Dembele. The three players that could have hurt Real Madrid the most. Yet, Madrid for all the good strokes of luck couldn't do the main thing: Get the damn result. I don't remember any chance besides the 12th minute Benzema chance being a clear cut opportunity for Real Madrid to impose in this game. They let Real Madrid run roughshot because they absolutely knew that if they play Atletico's tactic of sitting deep and forcing Real Madrid to create, they'll come sorely short. Where is the creativity in the box? Where is the direct threat? None of it existed in this game, not one bit.

Almeria and Manchester United did half the job FOR Real Madrid. This was a perfect opportunity for them to be kicked while they were down. Instead, Real Madrid let them get back into their winning ways. Utterly disappointing. Any other coach would've ripped into these players. But nice guy Carlo will downplay their lack of enthusiasm to win. This is why Barca is 7 points clear the top of the table. Real Madrid players cannot be asked to put in the effort game in and game out to produce at a high level. They put in a shift every so often and then go back to playing in first gear because it's good enough to beat most teams.

Ancelotti was "happy with the performance" while Xavi was disappointed. They both must've watched a completely different game. Or rather Xavi is doing the smart thing and overestimating (perhaps mockingly) Real Madrid and its players.

The panel at ESPN FC summed it up perfectly: "If the purpose of control in the game was to pass the ball around midfield; yeah [Real Madrid] had a great game! If the purpose of control was to win the match, they were not in control of that."

Real Madrid was given the ball to do whatever the hell they wanted and couldn't do anything of worth with it. 65% possession for this result is annoying as f***.

There was plenty of youth on that pitch out there. Camavinga, Vinicius, Valverde, Rodrygo came on.

We need a striker, and also at both LB and RB which is really hurting us ,

out of 4 - only Vinicius make the first team, Valverde still needs to find his pre-injury form, Rodrygo cannot replace Benzema and camavinga is not as good as Casemiro or kroos whose position he plays for

we are still using kroos and Modric because they are still inconsistent with the possible replacement and do we have Benzema replacement/substitution when he fails to deliver

The thing is this forum went absolutely mad about Benzema being the best player on the planet, but we should at the same time be spending big bucks to replace him?

If you speak your truth that Benzema is the best player in football, you don't spend massive amounts of cash to replace him. It doesn't work that way.

According to a lot of people here, not penning him in as the greatest is equal to challenging him to a duel at noon with a sixshooter, so i can't imagine his response if we'd sign somebody like Haaland.

I was saying we needed to move off from him at the end of last season. As it was predictable that he was going to decline rapidly this season and beyond. I was ridiculed and told I was nuts, but truth is he’s finished as an elite player and we let Haaland slip by us in order to appease a teenage girls ego.

Haaland wasn’t coming anyway. The biggest mistake was not bringing in a quality backup. That doesn’t mean he has to be a replacement, at least for a year or two. The idea that we couldn’t bring in someone because Benz is #1 always seemed silly to me. Not getting a competent backup striker was a failure then and it’s a failure now. It was clear as day, to at least a bunch RM fans.

I think the market being as thin as it was in that position and the shocking idea of getting another Jovic made us sit on our hands with that.

I agree, but it still has left us a bad position. The writing was on the wall and the club decided we’d continue to grin and bear it and hope for another miracle run from some of our legends. Hasn’t worked out that way. It’s frustrating though to have seen us leave such a glaring hole without even attempting to fill it.
