Background checks would take too much time away from focusing on the paranoia and backstabing that CTU is famous for.
I'm just wondering why cell phones work inside the CTU. You would think the place would be shielded from transmissions going in and out of the building. Also, personal cell phones should NOT be permitted within the building. The place just doesn't seem that secure. Movie theaters are less likely to be compromised.
Another thing about CTU is that it's dark in there. You'd think that they could afford a decent set of lights in there. If I worked in an office that dark I'd kill myself.
We always joke that it's easier to get work inside CTU than almost anywhere. Everyone in there has their own agenda, is a mole for either another agency or a foreign government, or has massive personal issues. All easily exploited by terrorists. Not one of those people would ever be allowed to work near a real secure site. But those are truly boring. I agree too about the cell phones, no way one would work inside an office like that. But it's still a great show to watch, even if half of it is totally inconceivable So, I wonder who the mole is going to set up as her patsy, I'm thinking either the computer geek dude, or the "amateur" chick.
If the latter, I'm hoping a strip search is involved... In case that just gave you a really nasty image, "latter" means the SECOND one. Later, COZ
Hmmm. Sarah gets jacked up by Driscoll wants to be "tough." Edgar grows stones. Tony is an abusive boyfriend. Jack is still one bad mofo. No here's to hoping Marianne survives the bomb blast and gets the Sarah/DOD Son's treatment. Finally someone truly deserving of it.
wusses so the muslim community is offended by 24 potraying rad. muslims as being terrorists. what BS. Co cry somewehre else. Keifer had to put a little disclaimer inbetween commercials to say muslims are not terrorists. ghey!
Not only that…he's a Mexican soccer-watching, Budweiser-swilling couch potato. Drinking out of the Cubs coffee mug was classy too.
So the Cubs mug returns from season one. Oh, and Tony too. Sad to hear that Michelle left him. But he quickly got back into things with Jack which led me to believe that his whole little talk about Jack reminding him of a life he wants to forget was a load of crap as long as it involved shooting bitches. There were some predictable plot points like wrongly accusing Sarah of being the mole. Same with the guy getting onto the helicopter being shot before they can take him in. Don't know what happened to Marianne. I doubt she's dead but if they bring back the amnesia plot ala season one then god help us all. Very good episode last night. Hooray!
Tony is back! Of course, he tried to make it sound like he didn't want to be back in the life after he was thrown into prison for saving his wife, but there has to be a bit of an addictive component in working for CTU. Of course, now it will be interesting to see what happens when CTU finds out that Jack is using Tony.
"Dammit Jack, you've already made me miss enough soccer today!" You can't really blame Tony for being a little upset. He did help save the country 3 times, before doing something stupid that Jack does every other episode. Jack never got sent to jail. Why can't CTU get reliable honest people? I think taking a look at the body count for each of the four days might be strong evidence. Who was the poor schmuk who just set off the car bomb? Whether being exposed to plutonium, weaponized viruses, or just being blown up, everyone who works at CTU (other than Jack Bauer) dies in some horrific way. Recruitment must be down, way down. Q
Re: wusses Yeah, I think they need a disclaimer that, because most of the actors and extras portraying terrorists are Mexicans, the Mexican community in the US are not terroists too.
One team was definitely Santos Laguna in their Celtic-like green hoops. The other could have been Toluca, when they won away to Santos on Nov 3 0-1 , about when the episode would have been shot. Didn't tape the episode, so can't check to confirm. That was funny. To many Americans, watching Mexican soccer in Spanish in the afternoon is a paradigm for hitting the absolute skids. I woulda sat down on the couch with him and enjoyed the match!
CTU Personnel Memo Feb. 8, 2:01:07 . . . 2:01:08 . . . 2:01:09 From: Erin Driscoll, Special Agent in Charge, Los Angeles Domestic Unit, Counter-Terrorism Unit To: All L.A. personnel Re: New civil-service rules I know you're all very busy at the moment, but I wanted to let you know about some important changes here at CTU. As you may know, our parent agency, the Department of Homeland Security, will be the first in the federal government to implement a sweeping new personnel system. As announced in Washington by the Bush administration on Jan. 26, the new rules will overhaul the way 110,000 civil-service employees are paid, promoted, deployed and disciplined. How will these new rules affect CTU? Let me offer a preview: • Pay and pay raises. Under new guidelines, and because of the unpredictability of our jobs, the biweekly pay period has been scrapped. CTU employees will now be paid in increments of seconds. Wages will be direct-deposited to employee bank accounts every quarter-hour. Merit-pay opportunities will be reevaluated at the top of each hour, depending on your job performance in the preceding hour. • Hiring practices. As always, CTU is looking for individuals dedicated to our core mission: thwarting extremely complicated terrorist conspiracies masterminded by foreign nationals with heavy accents. Our hiring policies will not change. As always, our primary consideration for employment at CTU is a prior record of conflict/romantic involvement with senior CTU officers. We will continue to hire individuals to perform a variety of ill-defined jobs, with overlapping responsibilities designed to maximize interpersonal friction. We understand that many candidates have complicated personal lives that will frequently interfere with their work. This is acceptable if the candidate a) is willing to work a 24-hour shift without notice or complaint; b) harbors damaging information about other CTU employees that can be used as leverage in personnel disputes; and c) does not mind occasionally being taken hostage. • Discipline hearings/appeals: Disciplinary actions will continue mostly as they have in the past -- swift, secretive, and involving some kind of employee-on-employee torture -- in the auxiliary conference room next to the snack machines. Employee-directed executions of senior supervisory officers, as occurred last year, will continue to be permitted under certain circumstances. Please check with me for details. • Vehicle use: On the whole, we've done a lot better this year in terms of the upkeep and reliability of CTU's fleet of sedans, SUVs, motorcycles and aircraft. But it seems that every year we get a one- or two-day period in which many of our vehicles are wrecked, blown up or otherwise compromised. On days when our workload seems particularly intense (today, for example), I would ask employees to be especially vigilant about driver safety, not leaving cars unlocked, and avoiding, if possible, the transportation of injured or deceased (or otherwise bleeding) co-workers. Also, please avoid using your CTU vehicle as a shield during shootouts. Body work and windshield-repair costs have soared, with a negative long-term effect on our department-wide car insurance rates. • Internal security. As you all know, the work we do here at CTU is vital to national security and hence top-secret. However, various individuals, such as friends of CTU employees, children, former love interests and former CTU operatives who now work elsewhere (e.g., that glory hog Jack Bauer), will be permitted to wander unescorted throughout our facilities. Finally, some good news: The command structure at CTU will not be affected by the new regulations. As in the past, CTU employees in this office will be able to completely bypass and disregard our supervisors at Division with impunity. And all of us will continue to have the private cell number of the president of the United States, so we can get him on the phone whenever it suits us. I hope these guidelines are clear. If you have questions or complaints, please direct them to your representatives at the International Brotherhood of Counter-Terrorism Workers. Your shop steward is Chloe O'Brian. Sincerely, Erin P.S.: I'd like to remind everyone that next Friday is Hawaiian Shirt Day. It will be compulsory to wear a Hawaiian shirt and jeans -- crisis permitting, of course.
Yeah seriously. Maybe they're resorting to hiring once-homeless people thrown into a world of defending the nation from terrorists. I think the difference between Jack and Tony is that Tony chose his wife over his country. Jack to my recollection never put the country at stake. Maybe season one but it was more of an assassination attempt on a Presidential candidate rather than the country going down, although they did say the nation would be divided if he Palmer got killed. Plus Jack had the advantage of having the Palmer on his side. Ok I'm thinking way too much on this. Oh, and I love Edgar. Seriously.
--I don't see why Tony just doesn't apply for his old job at CTU. Does anyone really think they'd actually notice a treason conviction during their background checks?
BUMP ..........getting ready for my dose of adrenalin tonight. Big impasses happened end of last show, looking forward to new implausible plot developments with even more Super-Airbus-sized holes! Looking forward to see if Tony's bargirl slut somehow figures into this.
I'm just looking forward to seeing the bargirl slut again Kind of a so-so episode tonight. I wasn't as sucked in as normal, although the mother completely freaks me out.
