I feel so sorry for our team. This squad has given blood and sweat and tears to the cause but are now run dry.

FSG should be ********ing ashamed of themselves, letting Klopp and these great players down so badly. Tightwad bastards!

Ooops...that was...well I'm not sure how to describe what that was...

    After 20 minutes LFC looked invincible...and I half-expected RM to crumble...but they are RM...

After 45 minutes I thought we'd be in for a wild second half...but only one team came out of the break.

Two minutes into the second half, JG and JH watched a direct free kick from the end line go by them without moving while the RM player nodded it into the goal, and from there, it seemed all hope was lost.

Gotta hand it to this RM team, they've essentially owned LFC for the past, what eight years or so...two CL finals, five games in the CL knockout stages, and LFC has not won one game - best we've done is 0-0 two years ago...they are simply put, better than us.:cautious::(

Back to the training pitch...we go again...

Pretty much my feelings here. We can rag on individual mistakes for sure but overall this group has been run ragged. A sale can't come soon enough.

We dug ourselves a terrible hole here. Probably too deep.

But In 3 weeks we could have Konate, Thiago, and Diaz back.

Age doesn't seem to be a problem for Modric.

He stood five yards off Vini in the first half and allowed him to score.
He kicks Vini which leads directly to the third goal.
Militao headed the third in from 5 yards. Gomez is stood two yards directly behind one of our own players and ball watching, completely unaware that a madrid player might actually move into the 7 yards of empty space directly to his left.
He's passive again on the 4th goal and is just standing around.
For the 2nd goal he completely overran/committed and that cost him ten yards of space then played a choppy ball back to Allison, which cut down Allison's time and the angle to which he could play a pass to Gomez (but it's still 99% Alli's fault on that one).

We already played our best card that we had in this tie…..Anfield. It worked. We were 2-0 up.

There is no way back now.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

A lot of players made mistakes today. VIni's first was a quick move to his right and then a shot into the the corner of the net. He tried that later and it was saved. If Gomez got too tight to him he would have scorched him and Gomez isn't a slow player. Vini's quick.
One of the goals Bajectic tried a cute move that didn't work but it was forward and he didn't have many options. I thought he played fine today. Not great but good enough and certainly not the issue with today's play. Fabino lost the ball off a terrible touch and then laziness or he's too old for this game. The goal on the corner kick is poor coaching. Off the set up there was a big open area in the box and nobody defending it. Off course there was Allison's blunder and as good as he is, it wasn't his first brain fart.

That said if Firmino's header and Nunes or Salah could had put one of their other chances away it could have been a different game. But they didn't and the whole organization has to be embarrassed by this. The fans at the game do not have to be, they were great!

I hope Maddock is right. Four would be a good start.

Think Carlo Ancelotti just inspired a major Klopp rebuild at Anfield. Expect at least four incoming this summer.

    But with what cash?

I really don't want to sell any key assets if possible - ie allison, VVD or Salah (on the fence on Salah).

I think he already knew we needed 3 midfielders and another CB.

Four would mean a centerback and 3 midfielders. I think that’s the minimum requirement especially since there should be a few outgoings.

Yeah four would be a start but won't be enough to get us where we want to be .

I'm not sure how much can be done in one window but I'd be looking at moving these guys on.

    Naby
    Ox,
    Arthur
    Nat
    Millie
    Gomez or Matip
    Adrian
    Possibly Jones too

That's the big question.......... how much money will we have for transfers?

I've been reading that FSG may ante up around 200m this summer but who knows?

But as for selling the big money guys like Salah and Alisson I wonder how many seasons will it take for us to really be competitive again and how old will these two be by then? Would it make more sense to cash in and use the money for the next generation of this team? I dunno but I think much could depend on the amount made available to do a proper rebuild.

I’m surprised that Fabinho didn’t make your list.

I’d keep Gomez around because I think he’s a good right back. A lot of the best teams are using centerbacks at fullback. City do it, Arsenal do it, Madrid did it today. We need a centerback who gives Konate and Virgil competition to be first choice and makes Gomez into a right back.

If we aren’t playing Champions League next season we can focus on quality over quantity. Most of the guys you listed don’t need direct replacements because their role is minimal as it is.

Yep but start by clearing out deadweight ie players who are in the squad but really are not needed. Then try to buy players who will be starters not simply squad players . If I was to be truly ruthless then Mo, Alli and Fabinho would be on the block as well but I think too many changes at once can often just result in making more problems. I think these rebuilding jobs should ideally be a gradual ongoing process and not be the situation we find ourselves in.

And I think we can find a better option than Joe at rb .Ramsay is supposed to be the cover so once he's healthy we'll see.

Ramsay has no experience, and all we know about him is that he good going forward. If we want to transition into a team where our midfielders are creative players, then our fullbacks need to be able to defend. Look at the stability Ben White gives Arsenal playing right back. I think Gomez can play that type of role really well.

I think the most concerning thing about this “rebuild” is we don’t even have a clear plan as to what we want the team to look like. Do we want to play with 4 forwards? Do we want to play with attacking midfielders like Elliott and Carvalho? Or do we want to go back to playing the way we used to? It seems like we are back to trying to play the way we used to with players who are way less good at it.

Well that's the thing about building or rebuilding a squad . Not everything will slot perfectly into place and work like a charm instantly. Some players will work well , some rise up unexpectedly like Stefan others not so much .

Hopefully to start with we can find some good midfield options and another Konate quality type for cb and then continue to sort out the other weak areas after that.
