WAFU Zone A Women's TournamentFinalGoal Senegal 🇸🇳Cape Verde 🇨🇻 0-1 Senegal 🇸🇳Korka Fall 60'— Wosoworld (@karlyboy71) January 29, 2023 Senegal barely defeats Cape Verde to win the tournament with their only goal coming from a PK. I watched parts of the game on Facebook. There's no way this team qualifies for the WWC.
Senegal is the lowest ranked team in the intercontinental playoffs. Cape Verde isn't even ranked. I was expecting Senegal to roll over Cape Verde. I still have Haiti defeating Senegal.
South Africa and Venezuela are now both confirmed for the Turkish Women's Cup, but both are reporting they're in the group w/Zambia, Uzbekistan and Turkey. Possibly a mix up in reports, or 1.) Slovenia withdrew and there's two groups of 5. 2.) There's a third group w/South Africa, Venezuela, Kosovo and???
I am surprised and disappointed that WC bound Vietnam hasn't scheduled any friendlies this February. It is a lost opportunity to gain experience for them. They are the only WC bound team that doesn't have games scheduled next month.
The mystery of the Turkish Women's Cup in Alayna continues to change. Now it appears there will be two groups of six team(maybe?) GROUP A: North Macedonia, Estonia, Jordan, Hong Kong, Kosovo, Bulgaria GROUP B: Zambia, South Africa, Venezuela, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Slovenia(one isn't happening, but getting conflicting schedules from each association).
So no Azerbaijan. Uzbekistan Football Association confirmed the six teams in their group. Feb. 15 Turkey vs. South Africa Slovenia vs. Uzbekistan Zambia vs. Venezuela Bulgaria vs. Hong Kong Jordan vs. N Macedonia Estonia vs. Kosovo Feb. 18 South Africa vs. Uzbekistan Turkey vs. Venezuela Zambia vs. Slovenia Bulgaria vs. N Macedonia Jordan vs. Estonia Kosovo vs. Hong Kong Feb. 21 South Africa vs. Venezuela Turkey vs. Slovenia Zambia vs. Uzbekistan Bulgaria vs. Kosovo Estonia vs. N Macedonia Jordan vs. Hong Kong

I think it is possible that the Alanya Women's Tournament in Turkey might be cancelled because of the devastating earthquake(7.8) they had yesterday with more than 7,000 dead so far. They are probably still experiencing aftershocks. Frankly I don't think they can continue safely with this tournament. During the 7.8 magnitude(similar to Turkey) earthquake in Nepal that occurred in 2015 they experienced multiple aftershocks including a strong 7.3 earthquake occurring 3 weeks later well within the timeline of the projected tournament.
Women's Internationals in February so far awaiting if Morocco play a 2nd game and confirmation of the games in BeninOf the WWC teams only Vietnam has not stated a game in the February break yet pic.twitter.com/jHDvWgvAxR— Wosoworld (@karlyboy71) February 7, 2023
It still won't look good holding a football tournament in the midst of a devastating earthquake with more than 7,000 dead so far.

It is not about looks, but availability of resources. Alanya is filled with luxury beach resorts/residences. Their building infrastructure was not affected by earthquakes which hit another region of their country. I doubt that matches will be cancelled, considering how much money was spent to participate in Turkish Cup.
It's about how many of the Turkish women's national team were affected as well. There's more to it than just regional damage. But hey, it could happen.
Actually it is now over 7,900 confirmed deaths with the WHO making estimates of over 20,000 deaths. Some Turkish disaster officials have higher estimates surpassing the 34,000 dead back in 1939 that they had in their country and that is just for Turkey and not Syria which also had thousands of deaths projected. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/worl...uake-in-turkey-syria-surpass-7800/ar-AA17bOan
The Turkish women's national team itself would be distracted as it is possible many of their families would be affected by the disaster. In light of that they might not be fit to play in their current mental state even if they themselves are okay physically. Even the South African women's national team is not sure if it will push through. https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/art...ill-set-for-turkey-despite-quake-devastation/ The competition is to take place in the city of Alanya, which has not been affected as heavily as other Turkish cities such as Hatay, Osmaniye, Adiyaman, Malatya, Sanliurfa and Adana. Though some minor tremors were reported in Alanya on Monday. “There is no update from what the coach said at the press conference yesterday… The tournament is going ahead until we’ve been advised otherwise. As the coach said yesterday, she is continuing with her preparations, because we have not heard otherwise,” Ntloko said. Ellis said in her press conference that if the tournament was canned, she’d consult with the Safa hierarchy to come up with contingency plans, so that this Fifa window is not wasted. “We’ll work on plan B or plan C. Because we can’t waste this opportunity, we only have two Fifa dates. They have taken away the January and June dates, and we only have two Fifa dates that we can bring in players from abroad,” said the reigning African women’s coach of the year.
In the last 3 days there were almost 100 earthquakes in Turkey alone. 01. 6th Feb 01:17 AM - 7.8 M - depth 18 km (main earthquake) 03. 6th Feb 01:28 AM - 6.7 M - depth 14 km (aftershocks) . . .....number of 4 to 5 M (aftershocks) . . 27. 6th Feb 10:24 AM - 7.5 M - depth 10 km - very rare high magnitude aftershoks . . .....number of 4 to 5 M (aftershoks) . 93. 8th Feb 07:48 AM - 4.9 M - depth 10 km (aftershoks) - latest Some of those 4.0-ish aftershoks have epicenter much closer to Alanya and possibly could've been dangerous to the city would their magnitude been higher. Chances for another 7.5 M aftershocks are very low but still... it's possible. http://ds.iris.edu/seismon/eventlist/index.phtml http://www.earthquake3d.com/
The Turkish Women's Cup doesn't even have a website, so it will be hard to know if it's cancelled or ppd.
Moving ahead to a March tournament. WAFU Zone B tournament will be held in Ghana with the hosts, plus Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Togo, Niger, Benin, and Burkina Faso plus invited guest Mali.
Venezuela withdrew from Turkish Cup. Venezuela 🇻🇪 announced it will not participate in the tournament scheduled in Alanya 🇹🇷 and reiterate support for all affected in Turkey and Syria pic.twitter.com/uPP8iN1vIb— Wosoworld (@karlyboy71) February 10, 2023
Not going to be a very fun tournament. Turkish National Team won't be playing in it either. TFF President put a ban on games until March.
