His agent hints Balogun will stay with England:

    https://soccernet.ng/2023/02/folari...country-ligue-1-top-scorer-may-represent.html

” Balogun knows the English set up are aware of him, and his goal still remains breaking into the senior team within the next two years. It is achievable because he is on track. It all begins from the summer when his club future will be sorted at Arsenal”, according to the agent, who was cited by owngoalnigeria.

(Note that the Nigerian football press can be fairly unreliable).

I haven't seen him play at all, but given that the competition for backup LB is wide open, it seems like he's worth a call-up as a 21-year-old starter for a good Liga MX team.

The top two goal-scorers in Ligue 1 were born in the US (Balogun and David). Both have very little connection to the US, though. Born in the US to non-American parents and then quickly moved away. So with players like that we take what we can get. Keep calling, keep trying...............and see.

Cajuste met none of the requirements to play for the US under the old FIFA system. Neither Jens, nor either of his parents, or any of his grandparents were born in the United States while Cajuste himself had not lived in the United States for two consecutive years. He wasn't eligible, but Berhalter talked to him anyway to gauge the situation. His connection to the states was actually stronger than either Balogun or David. They were eligible as they were born in the states, but Jens wasn't.

If he hadn't gotten himself cap-tied to Sweden under the old system, he may have become eligible under the new system. Moot point, though.

Seems there is a bit of controversy in Honduras around Keyrol's appearance (and provisional cap-tie) with the US U17s:

    https://www.deportestvc.com/jorge-claros-estaria-de-regreso-real-espana-de-liga-nacional-2023-02-12

After Maynor Figueroa's son scored his first official goal with the United States under 17s, in the Concacaf World Cup, engineer Salvador Nasralla shared a message about the Liverpool player." I don't blame him, I tell you, what happens is that of course you would like to play in the land where your father was born, but in the long run what matters is the nationality of your parents; you can choose if you are Honduran," he said live along with Ponce Morazán.

"They attacked him when he was old and everything because in Honduras you can be corrupt, a thief, a drug trafficker, a money launderer, whatever you want and they don't tell you anything, but you're old, that's the big problem in Honduras," he lamented.

Not sure it works like that, but if they came together I'd say sure as long as the proper paperwork was filled... at least until 2024 lol

Haven't watched him for even a minute but that probably puts him outside the top half dozen or so American strikers...

If he were to play for Saint Martin in a competitive match, would he be cap-tied? I think I remember either Martinique or Guadeloupe at some point being allowed to use a player who was cap-tied to France, but I may be mistaken.

Since it's not a FIFA member, he can never be cap-tied to St. Martin. If he gets cap-tied with one of the other countries, then he can't appear for St. Martin in a Concacaf competition that goes by FIFA rules.

The event you are probably thinking about is when Florent Malouda played for French Guiana in the 2017 Gold Cup. He was already cap-tied to France and the tournament was being played under FIFA eligibility rules, even for the non-FIFA members. He could have played for French Guiana at nearly any other time, but he wasn't eligible in this tournament. They forfeited the match he played in.

I just remembered who it was. It wasn't Malouda. It was Jocelyn Angloma, who played for France at Euro 92 and 96 and then came out of retirement to play for Guadeloupe at the 2007 Gold Cup. Of course, FIFA's rules on cap-tying have changed several times since then.

Notably in the Stewart interview he noted that Hudson was trying to meet with Balogun while in Europe but that they couldn’t quite make it work.

Could quite make it work stopping in for a coffee or meeting in a hotel lobby for 30 minutes? Seems unlikely given both their schedules and Hudson's ability to go anywhere at a moment's notice in service of the federation...
