“Next” for economic pressures, not military. Don’t get me wrong, China is already the focus of US economically and that isn’t going to change.
China’s population is about to crash and its economy is already hanging on by a thread.. China is f**ked if they invade Taiwan or not. It’s just a question of how quickly they are f**ked..
OK that is true. But as far as Ukraine goes, China is aligned more with Western Europe and the US. They've signalled they are fine with NATO supplying weaponry and support, and haven't shipped weaponry to Russia. On nuke use, they came down against Russia very clearly. China has no interest in the outcome but they do have a huge interest in it not escalating. It's an example of the limits of "BRICs" thinking
I did not move anything. Everything you just said happened and will happen. All of it didn't happened now. The reason we are not seeing the effects because 1. Russia is lying and 2. we will see the effect after the war ends because of reason 1. Also the sanctions were not at full strength. A full SWIFT removal of Russia would have been catastrophic but they only banned certain primary banks Make the ruble a currency anyone ca trade let's see the true worth You can't destroy tanks with sanctions but you can limit their capability to make new ones. As for their economy their economy is truly effed. That is why they keep burning through foreign reserves As for the whole Global South will do this and that.... those are delusions I mean China could easily say yeah we are helping Russia what are going to do about it but they are not aren't they And if shits hits the fan China is not backing Russia. EU and USA are 50% of China's trade. They are not throwing that away for 3% (Russia)
The internal problems will make an attempted invasion of Taiwan more likely. Authoritarian regimes have a long history of starting wars to distract from domestic problems.
Why are people engaging with Borden? His entire argument against sanctions is based on a deliberatel lie about the purpose of the sanctions. We are blocking Russia's ability to import war materials at market price, forcing them to pay through the nose for small quantities of inferior products from elsewhere. I and others have posted this explicitly-stated goal of Western sanctions designers since March of last year that all you should do -- if yer gonna do it -- is reply to him with the links to those stories. And maybe an eyeroll emoji.
All those pro western articles, analysis and data from western MSM and organization such as the IMF are wrong but your analysis is the right one? Thanks for the morning laugh
The US is looking to implement a 200% tariff on Russian aluminum, perhaps within a matter of days (why not ban it?) https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...riff-on-russian-aluminum-as-soon-as-this-week
You aren't wrong. I was just noting that the statement that China is fine as long as they don't invade Taiwan is not accurate.

This is Novoselivske, Luhansk region. Russians completely destroyed it. According to Serhiy Haidai, the head of the Luhansk Military–Civil Administration, the village is empty. Musk is promoting the idea that thousands of Nato soliders died in Ukraine - this is a blatant Kremlin talking point. A pro-Kremlin Twitter account tweets a nonexistent Turkish newspaper, claiming “NATO soldiers” have been killed in Ukraine. @elonmusk, evidently very concerned about media corruption and fake news, takes the bait, then is asked by the account to “mediate.” pic.twitter.com/lKbB7kP1E0— Michael Weiss (@michaeldweiss) February 6, 2023
Yes, they posted a big deficit but look at the bigger picture. What's their debt to GDP ratio? Last data for Russia was around 17% - one of the lowest in the world. (US is over 100%) - We're very far from "crashing" their economy. Is it affecting their budget? yes Is it affecting their ability to wage war? no And the IMF own numbers predicts positive growth for the next 2 years. We're witnessing the limits of our sanctions when the global south aren't on board and actively working around them with them. All I'm saying, we need a reset with the Global South or we'll just keep throwing sanctions at them and keep dragging the rest of Europe down along the way (IMF numbers) - unless the US don't mind that part
This is only meaningful if Russia wants to borrow money. They can't borrow money externally because we won't let them. That means their budget deficits (which they have now, and are large) has to be financed internally. Do you think this is going to fall on the oligarchs, or whatever is left of the shrinking middle class?
Maybe not the middle class just yet but according to this, big corporations will pay more taxes https://www.telegraph.co.uk/busines...ows-record-56bn-month-sanctions-batter-putin/ Putin’s government has already started reducing or delaying non-war spending and is discussing higher taxes for some big companies to help cover the shortfall. Russia has been forced to draw on its rainy day fund and borrow heavily at domestic debt auctions in recent months as it diverts more funds towards security and defence. It is obvious that they've been adjusting their economy and policies to resist much more severe Western sanctions after they took over Crimea. It's no coincidence that they came up with MIR and working with China's CIPS which is a heavy driver of dedollarization and avoiding western sanctions. Under normal circumstances, their economy should have been way more damaged than this. Despite the pressures, Russia’s fiscal position remains strong, thanks to years of strict policies leading up to the invasion.
Man, pop the tank cork and Germany goes off. They have reportedly approved the transfer of almost 200 Leopard 1s to Ukraine. These tanks are quite old (production was 1965-1984), but have been upgraded with more modern targeting systems, so will still be very capable. https://www.prosieben.de/serien/new...d1-panzern-frei-finanzierung-ungeklaert-68660
Yesterday was a devastating day for Russia if you trust the Ukrainian. Over 1,000 dead, 14 tanks, 28 APC/IFV, 1 artillery, 3 trucks, 5 others. 14 Tanks and 28 APCs. A large part of that is going to be from Vuhledar. They really are going to need that meter maid.
