There's a YouTube video posted by someone, maybe MR, that's essentially a Zoom call between some team "reporters" (Bailey is on it) and Darlington. The sound quality is terrible (so is the video but the guy is just sitting there so it doesn't matter). Anyway, there's nothing of particular note that's worth anyone's while beyond the very first question, which I think is Bailey. She references Nancy's coaching approach and Nagbe emphasizes that the coach doesn't care much about structure and formation, but rather is working at imparting a particular style and approach to playing the game. In other words, 180 degrees different from the previous coach who was going to live and die with a rigid formation, and explained losses as failures to work the plan. Nancy apparently wants them to play soccer. Imagine.
Bailey also mentioned on the Soccer Speakeasy that the first thing Nancy wanted to do when he got to Columbus was to figure out how to blast music during practice. Somehow I can't see Porter doing that....wonder which Daft Punk song will be Nancy's walkout music.
It's almost like the people who bought into and prostelyzed about Porter's "90 Minutes of Hell" were completely huckstered by a charlatan.
The more interviews and stuff I hear from Nancy makes me like him a lot as a person. Porter definitely had a demeanor that seemed like arrogance. But bottom line is I hope Nancy can build a winner and that Bez doesn’t ******** up the roster. Also seems like Bez is a token GM who let’s the coaches have most if the not all the day in the players and he just screws up the contracts
Most recent was he is a leader not a boss he also had other comments i would have to reread them but he comes off much more relatable where Porter seemed like a ass. Winning is what ultimately matters , however I think long term it’s better to have good people. Now people have different personalities but from the beginning everyone said Porter was a jerk ( Portland fans specifically) and that affects the lock room and team culture. Maybe all the Crew players loved Porter or perhaps it’s true that his style grows old quickly
I'm sure this is an answer to some question. It's just not an answer to MY question. I very specifically responded to your posit that Bez is " a token GM" who let's the coach " have all the say" in signing players. I asked you to explain what evidence you have of this. You responded by slagging off Porter, which has nothing to do with the question.
Do you have a split personality, or what? Last season, you wouldn't shut up about how Bez controlled the entire roster, made all the decisions and what a disaster that was. Now he's a "token GM" who plays virtually no role in the roster (except to screw up contracts)? Time and again it's been pointed out that roster decisions aren't one person's role in the oprganziation; it's the President (Bez), Head Coach (now Nancy), scouting director (McGuinness) with input from assistant coaches. And, of course, when it comes to major acquisitions, there's ownership to consider. It's not that hard of a structure to understand.
I'm sure he's a nice competent person, but now all I can think of is Jar Jar binks as assistant GM for the Crew making fun of Bez being short
He could probably cite guys like Fanendo Adi, Darlington Nagbe, and Perry Kitchen as players Porter asked for.
I'm sure Porter was involved but where is the evidence that Bez had nothing to do with any of them aside from working out a contract.
Oh that’s from all you Big soccer experts who say nothing is Bez fault and that Porter told him who he wants. Now to be fair Bez had a list and Nancy must of not liked anybody on it other than the 2 guys we got.Because Nancy said there would be no more additions and he wanted to get to know the players for himself ….. yada yada I think the roster is Bez fault so i was being sarcastic
I don’t care how many ppl are involved , somebody has control and has the last word and that’s Bez unless ownership comes in and Meddles
I have a feeling we will get a transfer fee for Nancy https://www.dispatch.com/story/spor...w-for-season-aidan-morris-number/69884819007/
Bailey Johnson is so much better a journalist than her predecessor it's not even funny. We're fortunate she stepped into this role. Of course, we're unfortunate that no one with any talent stays in it for long.
