All I know is if Vinicius was named Messi, Gavi or Pedri, we'd be playing against 9 or 10 players each game. I'm not asking for referees to 'protect' him (i.e. give him preferential treatment, like Messi received for 15 years), I'm asking them to do their job, call a foul a foul and discipline players that go over the line. I'm fairly certain opponents would tread carefully, if they knew referees would act on their aggression. Now? Now everyone knows that (i) misbehaving gets Vinicius extremely agitated, (ii) they should therefore misbehave as soon as possible in the game (in order to get Vini agitated early), (iii) referees won't act, as referees have basically declared Vini public enemy number 1.

I'm not even talking about the racism problem. That's intertwined in this whole mess of course, but I want to just highlight players that can freely misbehave and proceed unpunished (racism isn't misbehaving, racism should be prosecuted!).

All in all, this is such a damn mess and I'm not sure how this can be solved other than referees doing their damn job (which they won't..). Scandalous!

Vini can talk all the trash that he wants.

BUT he then cannot complain about people talking trash back (aside from comments that are criminal in nature), or complain about people hacking him in frustration.

Those are the rules of the streets I’m afraid.

So he needs to decide what’s more important to him. Riling up his opponents with shit talking, or hurting them with his performances.

He needs to look at Valverde. The guy has the same passion and will to win, and same desire to please the Madrid fans, but he doesn’t spend all game talking shit or performing for the crowd.

Valverde has his own problems. He's been MIA since last season.

I thought he had a good start to the season. He was looking like a guy who would help with the goalscoring load but at some point constantly playing out of position was gonna be a drag on him.

I think we are at that point where he's lost as far as a place in the team because the club wants, needs and relies on him to be a makeshift right wing player and it's just not his best position.

Another case of poor planning and bad personnel management from the front office.

Has he been complaining about the trash talk to him though ? Correct me if I am wrong, but he only complains to the ref about fouls. Which is normal. That's how you try to get the attention of the ref.

And it's as if Vin Jr. created trash talking. Defenders are known for using trash talk to intimidate attacking players.

The ref has his own eyes. If you complain about a foul and you don’t get it, you get on with it instead of whinging. To me it looks like Vini gets petulant when things don’t go his way.

I don’t know who starts it, if it’s Vini or the opponents, so I will make that clear before saying this.

It’s not a good look that a player starts talking shit to a less talented player. It’s maybe acceptable when you are less talented and trying to throw a better player off their game (and it’s also acceptable for the better player to then give some back especially when he wins).

But to be the better player in the better team and start to instigate shit is not acceptable imo. If you do it you invite a bad challenge and an injury for no reason than you wanted to please your own ego.

Your assumptions are the Vinicius starts it. We don't know this. There was never a problem last season or years prior until he became this star figure.

You've brought up rule of the street? Well tell me how it works when he isn't the instigator and just retorts?

Fede isn't the most fouled player in Europe, this just isn't a good example. I agree 100% that Jr needs to work on staying focused but I doubt that would result in him suddenly being fouled less.

The fact that Vinicius is the most fouled player in Europe can also allow us to make some inferences.

    1) the refs are calling the fouls against him (even if not with 100% accuracy),
    2) he's getting and holding the ball long enough to get fouled (which is a factor within the player and teams control).

I'm not sure the street rules are applicable here but there are certainly unwritten rules in sports, and when it comes to trash talking the simple rules is you have to back it up to save face. If you are a defender it means you eat cards sometimes, and if you are an attacker it means you bring the ketchup.

There’s still a way to command the respect. It is called scoring ton of goals. Eventually it shuts their mouth. Cristiano used to get shit all the time, but he used to back it up with outstanding on field performances that used to steal all headlines the next day.

This is the truth. These racist and enablers will only respect one thing... that is if every time they do their act he destroys their team.

He already is. There multiple journalists in Spanish media saying stuff like how "Vinicius has to ask himself why something like this never happened to Kroos or Modric".

The thing is that Vinicius everything has sort of been boiled into an excuse system of "Vinicius provokes!"

Well, let me play the devils advocate and assume that he does call other players losers, broke, ain't shit clowns and so on. He's not the exception, he's the norm for a sport that lacks basic education and manners on every level.

From the fans, to the press, to the institutional level. A low class sport hiding behind a multi million facade.

Exactly! Except Vini hasn't yet evolved into a prolific scorer (will he ever?). He has a lot to work to do in terms of decision-making and finishing.

At times you feel that he doesn't trust his own goal-scoring abilities and finishing skills, he tries to get as close as possible to the goal before attempting a strike.

Because Modric and Kroos aren't black. Nobody is that dense unless they are being willfully ignorant.

But we can ask why does this stuff happen to him and Neymar but didn't happen to Ronaldo and Ronaldinho (who from what I remember were not trash talkers but were loved and respected by their peers). I know we had some of the racist stuff back then but it naturally didn't get the headlines and those people got the "sore losers" tag.

So simple! Just become one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the sport! I agree, he should just do that.

not sure if this is was cynical or not, but will all know that racism is not going to just disappear because players wear an armband or anything stupid like this. Most the audience in football, just like the players, have the IQ of a 5 year old kid, and banning a fan for racism (if they do something like this) will only get more people riled up.
This has to come from schools/education and parents (which is a catch 22 if one of both parents are the idiots that goes to football matches and chant racist anthems). It will take a long time.
in that respective, you are correct, if Vinnie destroy these teams, the fans will shut up.

All those prolific scorers in the history worked hard to earn that title. Nobody was gifted anything without due efforts. I don’t know what sounds wrong to you in this, but he needs to be efficient and consistent scorer to shut the haters down.

Because reaching that level of efficient scoring is completely unrealistic for 99.99% of players. Especially playing on the wing.

I think we all know he has potential to do much more efficient than he currently is. He showed it last season. Needs to be consistent. Soon the noise will disappear and the only thing catching headlines then would be about Vini’s goal conversion/assists.

Hmmmm seems i hit the nail on the head when i said some journalists were morons, they are people like everyone else and surrounded by the "culture" i imagine, so not exempt from idiocy, they just get to write it
