It is sometimes difficult when each site includes different info. Best I can tell is transfermrkt includes a stint in the NZ league that the other sites don't include.
'19-20 wasn't good either, with a measly 2g +1a in 25 appearances and 17 starts. Overall he looks like he was decent only from 2017-2019. And even in his good years his assist rate ranged from poor to extremely poor. Doesn't sound like the guy who is going to set up Chich or Dejan.
I looked again and fbref does include his stint at Wellington, but Wikipedia doesn't for some reason. Too much work to figure out where the discrepancies come from.
#LAGalaxy II defender Josh Drack has signed with Nashville's MLS NextPro team Huntsville City FC. The left back appeared 52 times for Los Dos.— Mike Gray (@MikeGrayAFC) February 6, 2023 Draft pick, trained to be a fullback, dumped. Nice work everyone.
Agreed, although using the draft to take a chance on a positional shift isn’t the worst way nowadays.
Of course it is always a probability game. No one can predict future exactly. I recently mentioned that Puig was the one exception we’ve seen in recent seasons. I can't think of any others. But we pulled Puig from a world top 5 team in a world top 5 league. Similar to Zlatan. Boyd otoh is coming from the Turkey Super Lig which is very comparable to MLS. So while coming home may cause him to suddenly figure out how to create assists and score goals, I wouldn't bet on it. It would be the exception, not what our FO should expect.
Well, if the only thing the FO does this off-season is to sign Puig to a permanent long-term deal beyond 2025, then it'd be a good consolation prize I guess.
Not true. I look objectively at how productive our imports have been at prior stops and report that. It’s not my fault our FO keeps signing players with crappy resumes, players like Costa, Cabral, even Grandsir. The last time our FO signed a player with a good resume of offensive production (Dejan) I said nothing but positive things about him. And sure enough, his production for the time he has been given has been stellar. Look, there nothing would make me happier than for a player like Boyd to come in and tear it up. But with the exception of Puig (who I said at the time we didn't have much data on) the prior stats of our signees have been depressingly accurate predictors of what we end up getting. So it's hard for me to not be disappointed that we are now looking at signing a guy who created only 2 goals & 2 assists in 29 games last season. That sure as hell isn't what our competition is doing.
You're too touchy Skydog. I was just ribbing you about why my post mentioned something and yours didn't on this one topic.
Ultimately, we need to start adding players. He’s somewhat local, a capped American player, and serves a need. I don’t think he’ll light up MLS but it’s a step in the right direction. That being said, we still need two more wingers, a left back, a back up right back that can potentially take over for Julian, and depth around the field. Not to mention a new club President and a new whatever the hell Kirovski does.
I've always thought Boyd is a similar player to Grandsir, without the international tag and probably with a lower salary. He attended Galaxy games when he was young. All he has to do is to be better than Samuel, and it probably won't be hard. Decent signing. We need a much stronger winger.
