not for me. the social side is great, but I'm interested in the game itself, our team, and finding some success on the field, the beautiful game, being played beautifully (like in 2005!). what I remember is that first game in 1996, 2001...winning the cup, 2003, the greatest comeback ever, and 2005. the hope I had in 2008, the realization that "oh shit!" we're stuck with the cheapest, shittiest owner in all pro sports, the miracle run of 2012, back to a decade's worth of "oh shit!" we're saddled with the cheapest, shittiest owner in all of pro sports. the revolving door of coaches...and Wondo (and Salinas!)...the GOAT, who we never built a solid supporting cast around...but still, all his goals, his heart, his passion...beating LA at Stanford...that's what I care about. ...the social side is great, but it's all about the football for me and what's going on, on the field.
And in 20 years Wondolowski will be talkrd ablut as much as previous legends like Cerritos not very much. Ill be an old lady remebering Wondo, the kids wont know or really care about Wondo. But people will remmber friendships far longer for the most part.
The on-field product is, of course, hugely important, but I have to agree the friendships I’ve developed through working for and being a fan of the Quakes (including the people on this board) eclipses the thrill of the game - at least for me. Games end - relationships persist.
I'm sure some will. Like I said...it's not really about that for me. I care about the competition going on, on the field. I remember how it felt when we were the best in the league; the pride, the excitement...the joy. Fish has sucked most of the joy out of it. I don't drink, don't care about tailgating...I've loved the atmosphere here at times and I know the Quakes could succeed, if this was being done correctly, if the investment and ambition were there...and I never give up all hope, as long as there's technically still a team here...don't get me wrong, fans here are great, many still hanging in there after all we've been through, amazing. and, as much as I'd like to see the #FISHEROUT! movement gain some momentum, I understand why people may not want to bother, don't have the time, energy, etc., but its hard to sit by and watch our team slowly going down the tubes, year after year.
we should do that again! let me know when you're ready. Liz and I are watching the Niners game here soon, and believe it or not, I'm in a pretty good mood after that Manchester United game this morning, feel free to stop by if you're not doing anything.
Why don't Quakes fans organize similar protests? Everton directors won't attend Southampton match ...
I can’t advocate or endorse physical threats to anyone’s safety but, on the eve of MLK Day, it seems timely to mention passive resistance or peaceful non cooperation (in the Gandhi tradition) as a reasonable approach to pushing back on the great fisher swindle.
I also do not supporting anything violent but I'm all for protesting through banners and boycotting of games etc.
Honestly, aside from us 12-15 posters on Big Soccer, by reading other online forums and threads, I think most Quakes fans have had it with Fisher and want him out. The problem is, as I showed, the more the franchise appreciates in value, the less he will want to sell. If he came into the league with only an initial $10-$15 million dollar investment and has now earned an equity of $430 million dollars in only 15 years’ time, that is $28 million dollars a year in equitable profits. None of this includes the appreciation value on the stadium which he also owns. All of this for running a dirt cheap, crap organization that keeps losing on a yearly basis. If the last 10 years are any indication of how much MLS teams appreciate, there is no telling what the next decade will bring. Like most NFL, MLB, NHL or NBA franchises, MLS clubs are vastly becoming prestigious and somewhat profitable. Even though Covid was a setback, I doubt he is losing that much money because he wouldn't hang on to the club if he kept bleeding cash every year. Therefore, the longer he keeps the franchise, the more it will go up in value so why exactly would he want to sell? I'm not saying I don't want him to sell to someone else because I do but he won't.
well, good reasons for Fisher to sell would be if someone offered him a better investment, or if he needed the $400-700M profit he would realize. So, someone here needs to offer him a better return on his money, or get his wife to divorce him
Or find some type of dirt cover up like Massage Parlors, Deflated MLS balls, Mistresses, Epstine Island Trips or a hot affair with a young co-ed intern... and you my lady will have an argument.
AEG was probably guilty of all those things but the league closed its eyes and instead of a punishment they revered their flagship club..
Review: - Why after 26 seasons, I'm no longer supporting DC United | Page 4 | BigSoccer Forum sad to hear how disappointed our DCU friends are about the direction of their once proud team. the two teams that literally kicked off MLS in 1996 are but mere shadows of their former selves. of course, in SJ it's been that way since 2008... ...yes, we have teams to the north and south of us going strong, doing things right by their fans...we have expansion teams coming online, building beautiful new stadiums and state of the art training facilities, signing exciting players, building good FO/fan relations... ...but it's a damn shame to see the two once-proud teams who were there for game #1 limping along, year after year, shedding STH's, falling further and further behind.
If you read some of the thread, especially the post by Bootsy, I think it's more than whining. You can cheerlead all day for our FO, and part of me respects you for that...but they've been a dismal failure, I can empathize with what DCU fans are feeling, my guess is most Quakes fans can relate.
Some of us have seen the Quakes FO in operation up-close and personal, and I can tell you that many of us who have are not impressed…
our FO feels like an empty vessel most of the time, void of any genuine sense of reality, community, accountability or determination to be better, sadly. 2026
I read Bootsy’s post quoted on the last page of the thread. He’s complaining about something other than wins and losses. I’ve been to RFK several times, and Audi once. The new stadium is soulless but serviceable and they’re getting a museum of sorts. RFK was an absolute pit, closer in decrepitness to Rome’s coliseum than Oakland’s. There was undoubtedly a better vibe with we-are-all-suffering-through-this together at RFK, but I don’t similarly pine for Spartan days.
Spartan days were our glory days, before fish got his hands on our team and we were forever doomed. I do.
