Almost spit coffee across my desk when I saw this: U.S. Soccer Sporting Director Earnie Stewart Taps Anthony Hudson To Oversee USMNT January Camp In Carson, Calif. (ussoccer.com)
Yeah, it's temporary, caused by two things. First, the very bizarre and dramatic series of events going on with Gregg Berhalter involving the attempt to Blackmail him before and during the World Cup, and his statement about how when he was 18 years old, he kicked his girlfriend and later wife in the legs while they were arguing. Second, even if the above hadn't occurred, the USSF and Gregg Berhalter are still in negotiations about whether he will have a new contract, so this January camp probably would have had an interim head coach anyway. Still, it is super weird to see the extent to which Anthony Hudson failed up.
While USSF continues evaluating Gregg Berhalter & USMNT program (plus Berhalter investigation), assistant Anthony Hudson will oversee camp & friendlies this month. Berhalter out of contract; members of staff extended short period in anticipation of camp so soon after World Cup.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) January 4, 2023 Hudson, 41, has been a USMNT assistant and head coach of US U-20s, Colorado Rapids, and Bahrain and New Zealand national teams. Got his start in coaching at age 27 in charge of lower-tier Real Maryland.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) January 4, 2023 Well so much for USMNT
At least there's another organization just as incompetent in leadership that the Rapids can still aspire to be like!
At this point, I'm not quite ready to conclude that the USSF is doing a bad job right now. They are dealing currently with what is probably the most fraught case of interpersonal drama overlapping with the professional/coaching side of things EVER in the organization's history. I don't think you could reasonably finalize the decision on whether to give Berhalter a new contract or not right now. So using a currently-employed assistant coach seems very understandable. My choice would be Luchi González but he's already gone off to take over the Earthquakes. So... Hudson. All that said, the USSF has to tread very carefully and make good decisions over the next few weeks to come out of this looking strong.

I understand what you're saying, but as a Rapids fan that endured Hudson's complete failure as our manager, I still maintain that any organization, much less a national federations that aspires to higher things, that would employ him as a manager for 1 minute is incompetent.

Great article looking back at Balboa's time with Leon. I would love to have Leon as our Mexican opponent in Leagues Cup, what with his and Yarbrough's connections to the team. https://www.soyfiera.com/leyendas/2...ue-enamoro-la-aficion-del-club-leon-5947.html
Just watched Birmingham beat Forest Green Rovers 1-2 in the FA Cup. Pretty quiet night for Trusty except he picked up a dumb caution when he dribbled too far forward, lost the ball, and left a foot in on the FGR player who won it. Saw a young fan in the stands with a USA jersey with #5 on it. Also heard the "USA" chant when Trusty took a throw-in.

Big winner for Trusty as it moves Birmingham 6 points clear of relegation zone. It was his 4th goal of the season. It will be interesting to see what happens to Trusty at the end of the season. He probably won’t go back to Arsenal. The question is do they find another loan and/or flip him to someone for a quick buck. Trusty has had a good to very good season. There will be suitors, I’m sure.
