We're not playing particularly well but still in touch with the in form teams just above us. If we do play the way we can we'll walk into top 4.
https://www.espn.com/soccer/blog-th...scorer-by-breaking-jimmy-greaves-goals-record A few Harry Kane career highlights.
Interesting how both of Sunday's matches were both 1-0 and both scored in almost the same minute. Often happens that way.
Some thoughts on that. 1 - Lloris needs to eliminate his blunders, or even is loss of concentration. He is still a quality keeper, but needs to stay mistake free. 2 - Spurs need to consistently score. With Lloris making mistakes, and the defense inconsistent, the attack needs to be like it was early in the season. 3 - I think the WC hangover is probably done for Spurs. Or should be. This means a return to the squad at the start of the season. The problem is that there is still the CL/Europe to deal with.
Often only takes one performance to turn things around Moderator and luck changes for the better. I agree with all of your points. 3 unbeaten matches now and against decent opponents too. I feel, after Leicester's win against an improving Villa under Unai that if we win there our performances will improve. The next match is a defining one.
I'm not taking too much stock in yesterday's win simply because tradition was maintained. I remember Santo's first three matches in charge were three 1-0 wins, and one was against City, then came Palace and we were thrashed 3-0. I'll believe we're back if we beat Leicester. They have 3 new signings, one of whom galvanised them against Villa.
Remember last season after we beat them, we went to Burnley a couple of days later and lost 1-0. Historically, we have always blown it in the game following a win against a top team.
There is another strong and negative tradition at Spurs. Whenever there's a Spurs connection we normally lose the first match against that connection. A coach from another team comes to Tottenham for instance and when we play that team we lose. Same if a player comes or leaves. Bent left for Sunderland and I think they beat us first match. Now that tradition was broken in Nuno's first three matches when we won the three matches with a connection and all by the same score........... a one goal win. Kane connected with City, we won. Nuno from Wolves, we won. Capoue to Watford I think, we won. Once the connection had gone and we played Palace, we lost and the rest is history. This is why I'm saying that the Leicester match is pivotal. We mustn't lose it, we must break the tradition you mentioned Golara and if we do, we'll fly.
We lost to Palace because our idiot South American players (Romero, Lo Celso and Sanchez), went to play in the WC qualifiers when they were told by the club and the South American authorities that they would not be allowed to play because of covid restrictions. So of course they went and were not allowed to play and then had to go into quarantine before they could play for us again. We lost to Palace because 15 mins into the game Lloris played a hospital ball to Dier, who got injured in the tackle and had to come off for Tanganga, who later got sent off in idiotic fashion and has never been the same since. Moral of the story: we don't need connections to blow games, we have enough ineptitude in the squad to do ourselves in.
First noted them in 1961 when they won the FA Cup and I saw also later that they won the league. Didn't take much notice until 1962 when the cup was won again and cup winners cup in 63. Took a mild interest and when they won the cup again in 67 I was hooked. Been living in Europe since 2001 so a little out of touch as to who should play where but still like to keep tabs from time to time. Now, if the "Unthinkable" happens and Kane and Conte leave we won't be finished as a club as Agbonlahor seems to think. There are decent managers who could take over and we've nearly always had a decent scorer ever since Bobby Smith and Jimmy Greaves. They will be replaced. We can score without Harry.
*Tips hat* For me, it was the year in the second division, 76-77. It was a lot more fun winning most weeks! Even then there was a typical wobble before confirming promotion. After that, there was Ardiles, more FA cups, and I was a goner.
I inherited them (I was born in Edmonton -no not the Edmonton in Canada) and my yiayia's house was a 10-minute walk to WHL. Pretty well all my family in London are Spurs folks, with the exception of our Norbury cousins who are Chelsea supporters, but that's ok, at family functions they eat in the garage. The first time I saw Spurs play live on TV was the 1981 FA Cup Final, you know the one where Jon Motson can't pronounce Ricky Villa's name properly. I always laugh when younger Spurs supporters say their greatest Man City moment is the CL second leg in 2019, but for me, it's that replay in 1981 under the Wembley lights. We will be in London in July so I am looking forward to doing the stadium tour.
Keith Burkinshaw and we scraped back into division 1 with a 0-0 draw against Southampton. It depressed me when we were relegated but the writing was on the wall when just a couple of years before it was a shoot-out between us and Chelsea as to which would go down. We beat them 4-2 and down they went.
This one in the semi-final replay (remember that, semi-final and final replays?) against Wolves wasn't bad either!
Strangely enough, that replay was played at Highbury of all places, after the original tie at Hillsborough ended 2-2 (they benefitted from a dodgy penalty to force the replay). Not great for Wolves, as it was essentially a 'home' game for Spurs, the Tottenham support snapping up most of the tickets.
