Just winning games doesn't build the fan base (which was @run_it_out 's point when he started this whole conversation). Take a look at Red Bulls 2022 playoff game - empty stadium.

What we need is a winning team with players we can be proud of and look up to (stars). So if we want to sell out PPP we can either do that or ask Garber to schedule us against LAFC every home game.

Just getting star players doesn't work either - those stars need to win otherwise it's just sad.

When LAFC came to PPP the resale market tripled in price and the stadium sold out. No other time in the season did that happen. It's no coincidence that they moved the LAFC game to Levi's stadium. If the resale market is tripling in price Fisher wants that money in his pocket not in season ticket holders pockets trying to make back some of their money.

One reason LAFC sells out PPP is that so many of the LAFC investors are Bay Area residents, which is beyond sad to me.

the other reason of course, they brought star players like Vela & Bale, that soccer fans want to see. Sort of like the Beckham scenario back in 2008. No different really. Quakes have never been able to benefit from having a high profile DP, either in the W/L columns or the stands. Now fish is hoping to cash in on LAFC’s ambition yet again! I expect it will be like the Orlando/Kaka game, not well attended. I won’t be going based on principle.

That springs to mind an idea —maybe I should list all the LA games at a high price and see if I can recoup half the cost of my season tickets.

Then I can be like Fish and cash in on LA ambition (since there is no such thing in SJ)…

My very last set of season tickets i sold single games for the remainder after i stopped. I sold tickets vs LAFC and Galaxy for almost 3 times the amount. LA fans always look for tickets

So how does that work? If Chelsea pays his salary does it somehow not count against LAFC's salary cap? I'm sure LAFC ends up paying under the table anyway (it would be next to impossible for MLS to figure that out unless somebody blows a whistle).

If a DP, what is the amount that goes against the cap, $400,000 or something? They would certainly need to count that.

His salary is around 9 million so he's an expensive DP.

I guess it's nice that Chelsea is paying the wages but I doubt that was going to be a problem for LAFC's owners anyway. As long as they have the cap space that's all that matters to them.

USL team Indy Eleven looks to be getting a billion dollar stadium development, the stadium will hold 20,000 and have a full roof and four sides with an outer skin...

Oh man, I'm jealous of that stadium. If they and the other USL teams keep up the investment and growth, they won't need MLS.

We should all be rooting for the USL to succeed and get big. It will force the cheapskate MLS owners to come out of their shells and and improve the league. We the consumer win with competition.

This gets at something I've been thinking about for a while. I'm wondering if the long term goal of the USL is to expand upward with a first division in major markets. If you got some billionaires together, why pay into the MLS Ponzi scheme when you could start your own league? You could do it your way, differentiate from MLS with no roster rules, a high salary cap, and an open system. MLS is really inviting entry, leaving a lot of untapped potential out there with their laser focus on cost control.

MLS is evolving slow but still evolving I think change will happen when Garber is gone.

I think eventually MLS breaks into 2 leagues

MLS West and MLS East or MLS/USL similar to the AFC/NFC, American/National League.

Ha! Anyone can build a stadium with a full roof and four sides. Quakes are truly unique with their tri-pod sides and partial roof approach.

LOBINA is unique and special. Every away fan I’ve ever queried (and I query a lot) loves our stadium.
