Jesse Marsch out at Leeds, rumored for Southampton job

In their current state 2 back-to-back losses to MU are assured, Everton most likely will beat them at home as well, so with 15 league games left after that it's too risky for Leeds owners to keep inept coach. I will be surprised if they keep him after inevitable Wed loss to MU, and will be shocked if he is still head coach after Sun game.

 

Yeah, I don't want anyone with a "system." Give me someone who can manage men well (Marsch seems to have this), can recruit (no idea), and gets it right on gameday (iffy).

 

So you're saying that you're sure that X will happen because you're certain that Y and Z will also happen?

I think his seat is getting red-hot, but you're talking about things as certainties that are actually variables. And if you haven't noticed already, the one thing that Leeds has been undeniably good at this season is upset wins over big teams. It's the Forrests and Southamptons of the league that sit in and counter that Marsch's Leeds have had issues with. (And that squares with a significant amount of his history as a coach.)

He has a lot more backing from the front office than people think. I know the fans are not sold on him, but the Leeds decision makers are.

If he loses back to back against Man U (which may not happen as Leeds has played quite well against the top teams this year), then Everton and Southampton are both must win games in terms of keeping his job.

If he gets a result or two against Man U, he probably doesn’t need to win against Everton to keep his job, but it’s still a fairly critical game.

Though even after today’s loss SPI has them at 23 percent to get relegated, even with Nottingham and lower than Wolves (24 percent), Everton (52 percent), Southampton (69 percent), and Bournemouth (76 percent).

I think Leeds has a fairly favorable schedule once they get past the two Man U games, so they’ll have opportunities to make up points.

But the Everton and Southampton games are really the key ones as far as Marsch’s future is concerned.

 

Recruiting has a lot to do with managing men well. But tactically is a bit inflexible and is hit-and-miss on gameday, and hit-and-miss on making tactical adjustments in-game.

 

2 losses to MU this week, mark my words, Marsch's team is clearly demoralized now. Loss to Everton is given too.

Yes, two wins over big teams. Unfortunately, that narrative doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Leeds played Chelsea at the right time. They were looking poor under Tuchel. Liverpool are a shadow of their former selves. They just lost 3-0 yesterday to Wolves. Wolves!

 

Bigger teams with more points than Wolves. I don't really know what point you're making. Half of their wins have been against sides in the top half.

Leeds have not been "undeniably good at upset wins over big teams." They managed to beat two teams because those teams were in poor form, not because Leeds were undeniably good. The Reds' loss to Wolves yesterday shows how poor Liverpool are this season. If Leeds were great at upset wins, they would have won against big teams that were actually doing well (Man City, Arsenal, Newcastle). To bank on Leeds getting points off of big teams the rest of the season is unrealistic.

 

Two of Leeds better matches in this not-very-good year have been against Arsenal and Tottenham as well. They've played the top half of the table better than they half, and have had nearly as good results. I've just gone down the list to double-check my assertion.

I think you're trying too hard to be dismissive of a "narrative," to be honest, without bothering to think over the kernel of analysis that went behind that.

No, I’m judging it on having watch a lot of McKennie and a lot of Leeds. His game is really not suited to Leeds in my view. And I think his inability to have a positive impact today is just verification of that.

 

This is a real Catch-22 for fans of Yanks abroad.
Yes, we love having owners/board fully supporting a Yank coach at the highest levels, but…not to the detriment of Yanks abroad in general.
I hate that Leeds owners are backing Marsch (good) into a ditch (extremely bad). Relegation does zero favors to the perception of Yank managers. I wish owners would do the smart thing and get rid of Jesse now when it’s not too late to save the season, but Leeds don’t have a backup manager ready to go.

 

who needed 30 minutes to know hes obviously a very high quality player that addresses none of leeds' problems?

is he going to materially help keep goals out? no. is he going to add more than 3 goals over the rest of the season? probably not.

wes can go nuts for the next three months, play at close to the top of his game as its going to effect leeds fortunes very, very little. and thats not in any way a knock on him. they are a fundamentally flawed club with a prohibitively limited manager.

rutter catching fire, bamford saying fit (ha!) and a lot of luck are the only way leeds stay up.

 

Jesse is going to need to take at least one of these Man U games to at least get on neutral standing with the fans again
