BA was just piss poor today.

He needs to sit on the bench for a few games and Jesse needs to start Sinistera .... simple as that.

I’ve been saying he needs to sit for a few weeks, but he was actually better today. Brentford bunkered which was the right strategy against Leeds and Brenden. Ugly boring game.

I mostly agree but my Yank inferiority complex is starting to say that his lack of real goal threat makes him a lot less dangerous and easier to defend - you know he’s almost always going to pass it off.

He had some decent chances at goal and he either passed up the shot - or did his usual hit into someone or not put enough on it to challenge the keeper. It (my inferiority complex) is also annoyed by all the calling for it at his feet as though professionals at this level need guidance on where to pass the ball.

I do think he’s going to improve especially as/if he gets stronger - but not sure if he’ll ever be more than a complimentary attacking player as opposed to an assist and goal guy.

Yeah he's just frustrating to watch with no end product and being a human rag doll out there. Hit the weights kid. And instead of diving to draw that free kick he should have stayed on his feet and gone at goal.

I still think he’s an 8, which is what he thinks too. I think he plays too “straight” if that’s a thing. He tries a lot of direct through balls and shots, versus finding angles. It seems more fitting for shuttler areas versus congested final third areas.
Surprised he continues to get the benefit of the doubt, but he’s been helped by injuries.

They haven’t had a lot of options to put him on the bench just yet. Sinister is back from injury and not ready for around 70 minutes. Bamford also getting back to full fitness. So perhaps putting Rodrigo into Aaronsons position and Bamford in might be the better solution. There are some things that Aaronson does well and that is linking up with Roca and Adams on quick transitions. So he might really be playing at the eight instead of out wide or as a ten that people think he is. Todays lack of the final ball went really to Rodrigo and Jackie Harrison. They didn’t seem to deal well with the hard and cold pitch. The attack looks it will be rotating some bodies soon. Especially if teams realize that perhaps the counter ball which has plagued leeds doesn’t have the effect it did and wants to send more bodies forward.

Jesse has given him a pretty long leash given his recent form... but I expect that will change soon. Rutter is an extremely impressive young offensive player IMO. I think he could be a huge pickup for Leeds.

They've gotten results in their last 5 games and Aaronson isn't the reason they haven't gotten more out of those games. Marsch isn't getting fired and Aaronson probably isn't sitting. Again, Brenden is hell to play against which is now his main role now in a pretty inept attacking team. Brenden was playing with better attacking talent at his old club imo.

I think you guys need to realize the reality of a relegation contender. They are doing fine.

Yep. The unfortunate reality of where they are in the standings and the season means 0-0 ties against teams higher up in the table are gold - boring as hell often - but that's what you need. Given that a couple of lower-table teams also picked up a point, or 3 in WHam's case, Leeds need to grind out at least a point per game to keep the Wolves at bay. Aaronson is good "defensive attacker" as he harasses and can break, so he can disrupt the build-up and you can't ignore him completely when you lose the ball. Leeds start Feb with a tricky run of games. NForrest, then ManU back-to-back before getting Everton, who hopefully will have completely given up by then. Hopefully Leeds can grind out a few points over the next 3 league games.

Of course that isn't why Leeds spent their largest ever transfer fee on him (almost a third of what they got for Raphinha and Phillips). At his price tag they expected a lot more than a goal or assist every 500 minutes. Yeah, he's worked hard and there have been occasional matches where he's truly been "hell to play against" but those matches have been the exception, not the rule. Look, the season is only half finished and I'm by no means writing the kid off, but the fact of the matter is he's been a disappointment and his lack of production (again, as the clubs record signing) has been part of the reason why they find themselves where they are in the table.

Absolutely agree that Leeds (and I) expected/hoped for more out of him, but I think at the same time, Leeds are where they are, and he has a skill set to contribute for the rest of the season. But it's clear watching the games that Adams, for instance, is a much more important and influential player on the team right now - if BA were more productive/effective Leeds might not be watching the point count quite so intently. But they are, and grinding it out down the back stretch he can be a useful player, if played right. But he has in no way been extra-awesome.

At this point….Jesse is showing the same level of bias we so often accuse European managers of having. If Marsch wasn’t a yank…there is no way BA is a lock starter.

I don’t really agree with this - I doubt they thought they were getting lots more goals and assists and until recently he was consistently one of their best players.

Maybe "lots" wasn't the best word choice...let's say considerably more than 3 goal involvements over half a season. Otherwise I'm really not sure what Leeds was expecting to get for their record ~$30M transfer fee.

He's had some good games but I don't agree with this.

It’s not all that hard to be one of Leeds best players - but going by a fan forum he was consistently rated near the top. Since the WC he’s been pretty poor by his own standards.

Aaronson is better than people think. The only thing that would bother me a little is a weak shot on goal - finishing, you could call it. All the other criticisms don't bother me.

It was good to see Harrison back in, even if his lack of playing time has meant there's a lot of rust when it comes to players' cues in the attack. Rodrigo looked tired. Bamford looked ready; too bad he came on after Aaronson went off. Gnonto struggled with the step up in class. Harrison made up for it. They miss Summerville who is aces in my book.

I admit I haven't spent any time on Leeds forums but I have 1) watched most of his matches and 2) looked at the various objective ranking sites (for all their flaws) and my eye test and those ranking sites don't support the contention he's "consistently been one of their best players" even before he returned from the WC.

Honestly think aside from Gnonto and Rodrygo the attackers for Leeds are all lacking right now

One thing I use a lot to evaluate a player is game state, mainly by eye test but I will occasionally check stats to check on my eyes.

If you look at possession on WS, who show possession by 5 minute increments, you will see that Leeds' possession v. Brentford went down as soon as Aaronson came off and stayed down. The game turned "yo-yo".

He's due a goal and an assist. Hopefully really soon to turn things around for him. It was a huge jump after all from the Austrian league.

A healthy Bamford will be the cherry on top for Marschball. He's a real 9.

p,s, edit: albeit I'm not sure a healthy Bamford is something that actually exists.

Aaronson on the bench (along with McKennie) vs Nottingham Forest.
