I guess KIL Hemne is really the only feasible choice where she is still close to her study place while essentially being guaranteed playing time. It's obvious that that's just a means to an end, preparing for NT and WC, with her club career still lower priority than her study.

I am just glad that Sara Eggesvik hasn't retired yet from football to concentrate on her medical studies like she alluded to a few years ago. As she said, she has been having too much fun playing for the PWNT to retire now.

She did mention getting an offer from a top flight Australian club last year which she turned down again because of her medical studies.

Our 17 y.o. prodigy Notre Dame U commit Chayze Ying finally got her passport and is ready to play for the PWNT.

On her latest tiktok video she scores 5 goals against the opposing team sometimes dribbling thru a host of defenders before finishing with a goal.

"The players know, and I've said it many times. I don't wanna sound like a broken record, but they're renting those shirts," Stajcic said during a media conference at Acacia Hotel on Wednesday.

"If you're in the team, you're renting that shirt, and I'm open and honest and transparent. You can probably tell, but I'm like that with the team. And it doesn't matter who you are, everyone who's there at a training session is there to take your jersey," he added.

According to Stajcic, the uncertainty on whether or not they get called up for the next tournament keeps his wards alert and always eager to get the upperhand over their teammates.
"That just drives internal competition, and that's really the next step in the evolution of this team, in terms of driving each other to become even better, to have that hunger to try and keep your shirt," he said.

And even with the tough rivalry among the players, the head tactician maintains that the rapport of the team is good and even welcomes the friendly competition.

"It's national team football, and it should be a little bit cutthroat, but in a good way," said Stajcic.

"A big part about our team is the culture of the team, and the dynamics within the team are so healthy and positive. The rivalry is so healthy, and that's how it should be, and that's one of the keys to our success, for sure."

Apparently Bolden's teammate on the A League's Western Sydney Wanderers 16 y.o. Alex Apostolakis has Filipino heritage. Alexis is the 2nd-youngest WSW starter and youngest to score ever at 15 years old. 19 A League appearances (started 15 times) for a 16 y.o. in the top flight women's league in Australia is quite impressive. She has also already represented the Matildas in the FIFA U20 World Cup last year. She would be a good addition at outside back at 5'7".

Bolden could well be joined in the Filipino side by Wanderers teammate Alex Apostolakis, revealing she had been attempting to persuade her to switch her allegiance to the Philippines ahead of their first World Cup appearance.

"I was not expecting that, so that was really cool to find out and I asked if she wanted to try out," she said.

"I decided on the Philippines because I thought I would have a little bit more of a chance to make an impact and possibly play at a World Cup."

Congrats to Chayse Ying for capping off her high school soccer career with her 4th Prep League Championship with Flintridge Prep. She also had two assists in the championship game.

and caps it off with this game winner where she carries the ball thru a host of defenders and an entire field and dishes off the assist for an easy goal.

Chayse is like a running back slaloming thru football lines thru almost the entire field from the 25 yardline and slip sliding her way thru a host of defenders on the way to scoring a touchdown on that high school gridiron football field. TOUCHDOWN!

Very much looking forward to seeing Chayse in the NT. She is very gifted, though so far she appears to be playing in teams and matches well below her full potential. I keep wondering how well and quickly she'd be able to adapt to typical NT matches, though Stajcic may want her to have some pro club playing time first (can we expect such anytime soon or are we in a long haul with her?).

Chayse is committed to Notre Dame University women's soccer team this fall which is one of the powerhouse teams of the US NCAA Division I league so she will get a somewhat pro level training experience in college while retaining her amateur status. The only way I can see her skipping college and turn pro early is if she stars in the Women's World Cup and is offered a big salary and bonus by a big name club in Europe. Even then her parents(who are financially well off) might not want her to do that as Filipinos tend to value a college education as a necessary and important basis for future job opportunities that will outlast her football career..

Yeah it is exciting to watch her dominate at the level she is playing at in high school but I agree pro and international level defenders won't give her the same time and space to make those moves. Nevertheless if she can translate those skills at a higher level she has the potential to be the female equivalent of a Maradona in international football. Some of the goals she has scored in her highlights look world class too.

She has been invited to 2 training camps with the PWNT last year but hasn't been able to play against other national teams because she hasn't acquired her Philippine passport yet. However she was indeed fielded for one game in a friendly against a WPSL(2nd division) club in the US and immediately impressed by scoring 2 goals in the limited time she was given as a substitute in the 2nd half against a team that is at a higher level than high school or junior club soccer so I expect her to be called up again to the PWNT perhaps as soon as the Pinatar Cup this month. She is also eligible to play for the U20 WNT in the first round of the AFC Cup U20 qualifiers in March, the first round of the Olympic Qualifier in April, the SEA Games in May, the pre WC friendlies in June before being considered for the World Cup in July.

Having said that she is also eligible to play for the US(or even China) so if she starts excelling too soon internationally before she is capped by the PWNT in the World Cup or Olympic qualifiers, it is possible that the USWNT might come calling and convince her to switch.

Chayse Ying wasn't included in the Pinatar roster. They are probably reserving her for the first round of the U20 AFC Qualifiers which starts soon after Pinatar ends.

PH women's football team bares lineup for Pinatar Cup

The Philippine women’s national football team has unveiled its lineup for the coming 2023 Pinatar Cup, which is part of its preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Kiara Fontanilla, Olivia Davies-McDaniel, and Inna Palacios were selected by coach Alen Stajcic for the Filipinas' goal keeping duties.

The defensive backline will consist of Maya Alcantara, Alicia Barker, Reina Bonta, Jessika Cowart, Malea Cesar, Sofia Harrison, Hali Long, Eva Madarang, and Dominique Randle.

The midfielders are composed of team captain Tahnai Annis, Anicka Castaneda, Sara Eggesvik, Carleigh Frilles, Reinna Gabriel, Kaya Hawkinson, Camille Rodriguez, Jaclyn Sawicki, and Meryll Serrano.

Sarina Bolden, Isabella Flanigan, Katrina Guillou, and Quinley Quezada will be the team forwards.

The Filipinas are scheduled to square off with Wales on February 16 in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain.

This will be followed by a match against Scotland on February 18 and Iceland on February 21.

Merryl Abrahamsen has scored a goal each in the 2 games Stabæk has scheduled in the preseason so far while playing the #9 position. I am bit surprised she was given the #9 position on her team. I thought that #10 would have suited her better. A lot of pressure to score at #9 and so far she is delivering.

You are only as good as your team and it looks like her team has a lot of improvement to make up for before the start of the season.

Sara showing her technical skills on tiktok on Saturday.

Our other players in frozen Scandinavia(along with Abrahamsen) are doing better with newly signed Cowart starting at centerback with her top flight Swedish team IFK Kalmar and helping her team keep a clean sheet 4-0 in their first game in the preseason and Katrina Guillou and Pitea IF starting and beating Umea 2-1 in their first training match of 2023. Tahnai Annis is about to make her debut as well with her former club Þór/KA in Iceland.

    Rising expectations
Stajcic's subordinate Nahuel Arrarte also shared his own thoughts as assistant coach. Alongside Stajcic, he was able to see just how the players were able to develop.

"Obviously, 12 months have gone past and the team has grown. I think we as individuals have grown as well. The team itself, you've seen where we're going — playing in different continents, and now there's an expectation. We talk about that all the time, whereas previously, we were just sort of happy to participate," said Arrarte.

"But now, we're going into tournaments with expectations to do well, like in the SEA Games. Now we're going to the Pinatar Cup, and it's not just going there for the sake of competing anymore. So, that's what I think I'm really, really looking forward to this year, is that we're going to tournaments expecting, looking to see how far we can push ourselves, and I think that's something, full credit to the girls," he continued.

Arrarte said that what the Filipinas have been doing for the past year not only fuels their own confidence, but also makes everybody else see just what they can do. From fans to stakeholders in the country, more have gone to subscribe to the success of the team.

Now looking forward to the World Cup and beyond, Arrarte sees last year as a great starting point.

"They've actually started to believe in themselves, and on top of that, make us believe in them even more, and obviously collectively, create belief within the country, the nation. Which, I think is something that maybe haven't been felt before in the Philippines, compared to what's happening in the last 12 months," said Arrarte.

"So yeah, obviously a massive opportunity. Like Coach Alen said, we've got to keep climbing up that mountain, and it gets harder and harder. But now I think we've created a decent foundation."

Stajcic and Arrarte recently announced that they will be overseeing the youth teams, coaching the U-17 and U-20 teams, respectively, as they attempt to maintain the program that netted the Philippines a spot in the World Cup.

But before anything else, Stajcic and Arrarte will steer the Filipinas in the upcoming 2023 Pinatar Cup in Spain where they face European teams Wales, Iceland, and Scotland in what they consider a warm-up event for the World Cup.

I noticed on social media that there are a lot of recently graduated NCAA Fil Ams being signed to professional contracts in Portugal's top flight the past few years including Zoe Hudson with Valadares Gaia FC Women, Jaime Turrentine with Clube de Albergaria and Brianne Cremer with A.D. Ovarense. Some even trained and played as amateurs in Spain like Emma Tovar with Valencia CF Femenino B who graduated from the American School of Valencia in Spain and is playing for Santa Clara U in the NCAA this fall. As the team is heading to the Iberian peninsula for the Pinatar Cup, I wonder if the PWNT will consider scouting and calling them up in the future.

Congrats to our young goalkeeper Kaiya Jota on committing to Stanford University. Even at 16 y.o. she already earned her first cap for the PWNT and is leading the Philippine U20 national team to the AFC U20 qualifiers next month. Stanford U's women's soccer program is a powerhouse in the NCAA and usually attracts the best soccer prospects in the US for it's mixture of strong athletic soccer program and rigorous academic reputation.

Now 17 y.o., she is probably among the best prospects(and one of the tallest players in the PWNT at 5'10") we have in the U20 age group along with our 17 y.o. prodigy Chayse Ying who also has committed to another powerhouse in the US NCAA Division I ranks, Notre Dame University.

Another member of the Philippine women's national team pool Jessica Miclat has signed on with a Swedish team Eskilstuna United this time in the 2nd Division Elitettan League. She hasn't been called up lately the past few training camps by the Filipinas but has earned a lot of caps(28) in the past including helping the team qualify for the World Cup by reaching the semis of the Women's Asian Cup.

I am not sure the Philippines have a handball team. :D

Anyways some of our prospective players need a passport not just a visa in order to play for the PWNT. ;) Attention Philippine consulate and DFA please expedite those.

Adidas Philippines manager comments on the PWNT sponsorship.

Frangos, for his part, reiterated the brand's commitment in helping the Filipinas even beyond the World Cup.

"adidas is honored to be partnered with the women's program of the Philippines Football Federation. This partnership will see adidas supporting the women's national team, but also, the youth teams and the youth programs that the PFF is looking to develop. So it's a real partnership to develop football and provide a pathway for females to play football," he said.

"So this partnership, as I mentioned, extends beyond the World Cup. We're looking to provide ongoing support and inspire the next generation of Philippine athletes. Our goal together with the PFF is to lead the conversation of women in sport and build awareness on what this group of inspirational women has achieved today and will achieve in the future," he added.

More Chayse Ying ponytailed magic in the playoffs as she scores a couple more goals helping her team win 4-2. Her combination of pace, elusiveness, vision and tenacity is just hard to beat.

    https://www.tiktok.com/@_chaysey/video/7198213822266576170

The opposing team players have been reduced to taking her down any way they can including tripping and grabbing her rugby/American football style and then tackling her to the ground. I guess you can't blame them since that is the only way to stop an elusive player who plays like a star running back in an American football game except that didn't really stop her from scoring in this soccer game. The girl just doesn't get intimidated by the rough stuff.
