And Union equalize - short corner, then cross from Juranovic to Knoche at the back post for a surprisingly easy rebound. Pefok was near post and then in position for the rebound that never came.

Pefok and Lacroix fight over the ball for several seconds while fouling one another - Pefok eventually called for the foul.

Ugh. Well won header from eight yards out by Pefok, fighting off a challenge, pings off of the upper corner and back out.

Pefok hits the crossbar with a header that he has to lean backwards to win.

Pefok subbed off for Behrens in the 64th minute. Not too eventful other than the header off of the woodwork. Still 1-1.

0 DAYS SINCE PEFOK'S LAST GOAL!

84th minute, a header bounces toward Pefok nine yards out, calm first touch half volley blast leaving the keeper no chance. Huge potential impact on the title race.

Pefok's game winner holds up, and Union move into first, though Bayern have a match in hand.

    He's pretty good with headers.

He is. Today’s goal was a right-foot blast on the volley. Quite a strike.

Mi culpa. I read it quickly as he headed it, not that it was headed in his direction.

Pefok comes in with the game 2-1 for Union, then RB scores but it's ruled offside in a completely incomprehensible call, since a defender touched the ball clearly on its way to the forward. Guess someone important had a lot of money on a Union win today.

That's the only way I can explain a lot of the (incorrect) VAR calls lately.

It's about intention. Watch it and tell me with a straight face that it was unintentional.

"It was an extremely fortunate decision for the Irons, because Danilho Doehki tried to clear the ball and actually created a new game situation - but referee Daniel Schlager judged the action to be unintentional and therefore ruled offside."

Pefok is on in the 70th minute of a scoreless leg. Malick Sanogo sitting there on the bench hoping for a competitive debut.

Wins a header on a defensive corner kick and clears it. It's something.

They've been trying to use him as a target on long balls to quickly get the ball upfield, and as a target man for some semi-decent crosses from the right. He hasn't been great at predicting where the ball will go today, costing him.

Trying to dribble out of a double team, fights off one physical challenge and is then fouled 40 yards out by our good friend Alvarez.

Geisselmann subs on, using Union's third window, so no Sanogo debut.

Full time whistle. Solid draw for Union given the situation.

Comes on as a late sub vs. Schalke. In min. 82 he knocks down a long header to a teammate who crosses to him at the goal mouth. Just cleared by the D. Jordan has looked good so far.

The female announcer sounds *exactly* like the hot Nazi chick in "Man in the High Castle."

Pefok takes a shot, but it is easily blocked. Schalke player down.

Union a bit happier to play for the draw than I would be. They aren't going to keep up with Bayern by being timid. They are only putting 3-4 guys into the attack. You're at home, guys!

Ball game. No sympathy if they lose to Bayern by 1-2 points at the end of the season.

They left the game tied for first (you know, aside from having scored 25 fewer goals so Bmunch having a 28 GD lead).
