Poor Bradford, he was most definitely on an upward trajectory with us and with the US U-20s when he got injured at that tournament. I remember it didn't look like a serious injury at first, but it was a bad one. It essentially ended his career with us and his status as a top caliber prospect. Shame really, he was quick and swaggy prior to the injury, and just did not come back with the same intensity and confidence.
Didn't know where to post this, and I am only providing this info as some of you were kind enough to ask me to. Both surgeries are behind me. Both were successful, I had cataract surgery in September and last month had a total hip replacement, Full recovery for the cataract surgery took about a month, On the hip replacement, I am doing physical therapy and the only significant limitation at this point is I cannot drive, which pretty much leaves me housebound, I have been playing in the Twitter sandbox a bit, and done some lurking here, I hope to be more active in the future, for better or worse. This place is pretty special and I have missed not being in a position to participate.
So happy the surgeries went well and you are on the road to recover. And as the OG of LAG BS, I think anything you do counts as Alumni news....
And we miss you. Glad you have recovered from your surgeries @Cadaver! Were there complications with your cataract surgery? I had both eyes done and I felt fine really quickly. Hip replacement is major - are you are happy with the results?
PS - Don’t worry about being a bit off topic - our moderator has given up on training us. Something about us being “learn-proof” I think.
No problems with cataracts. Just a month of various eye drops for full healing. Hip replacement immediately relieved the bone-on-bone pain caused by worn out cartilage. But the incision and the muscles take time to heal and strengthen. Staying with the PT program is not easy but necessary. And, yes, I am pleased as things had gotten pretty painful for a few months leading up to surgery. This will be my last medical report. I did think about using my X-ray as my new avatar but decided not to gross you out.
SO great to hear from you! I had that hip surgery 3+ years ago and it went well. Those ortho docs are amazing. The cataract surgery is probably in my future. Hope you can drive soon.
It appears that the Galaxy dodged a major bullet in not signing Pavon to a DP contract after he returned to Argentina. As far as I can tell: His rape case is still not settled 2 years after it was filed. He has never recovered his 2020 and prior years form after his post Galaxy ankle surgeries. After 2020, he has had a total of 5 goals and 6 assists in all competitions against first tier opponents and since 2022 only 1 goal and 1 assist with his Brazilian club.
You could certainly look at it that way. Its almost certainly true that Boca's greed cost them a multi-million dollar payout as they ended up letting Pavon go after 2021 on a free. Its strange, I knew that he wasn't doing well, last year, but I thought that perhaps he might fit in as a TAM or just a regular salaried winger for the Galaxy this year considering his contract was expiring. However, his stats were so bad, I can't even see that. Jonathan Perez seems like a much better choice (and indeed might be better than Memo) if he is able to play.
Rough news for Nick DePuy. The coach's comments suggest that the Galaxy may not have been forthcoming about what was keeping him out last fall. I don't know if that's true, but Nashville only paid $50K in GAM for him, plus a 2d round draft pick the Galaxy may not even sign. That's about what you pay for a lottery ticket in MLS. News: Nashville SC is putting Nick DePuy on the Season-Ending Injury list.DePuy had surgery on his Achilles last Friday. Gary Smith touched on the situation, which may be part of a bigger problem regarding the trade with #LAGalaxy in January. #EveryoneNhttps://t.co/NdR0KqGsGK— Drake Hills (@LiveLifeDrake) March 10, 2023
Even a year ago I would have dismissed out of hand any shady business in transfers. The revelation our club and our President are incompetent cheaters means reports like this can’t be dismissed until the rot is cut out.
To the best of my knowledge, it is standard procedure (at least in American sports) for trades to include physicals for traded players by the team receiving those players. If the player fails the physical, the trade is unwound. To me this is basic due diligence. Gary Smith can cry me a river.
That article is clear as mud. I suspect there may have been some funny business going on (like LAG not disclosing some health info) only because it is a weird thing for a coach to insinuate publicly without reason and because I don't trust our FO. But who can tell from reading that random assortment of sentences masquerading as a coherent story? I remember being puzzled and remarking on DePuy's complete disappearance last season. Over our final 10 games his minutes were 0, 90, 80, 90, 90 and then 0, 0, 0, 6. I assume he saw no action in Sept/Oct because of injury but IIRC (iffy) the injury reports were either absent or sounded pretty mild.
Sorry for Seb even if he brought it on himself. Sorry for Becky as well. Hope they work it out and come out stronger on the other side.
I wish Sebastian Lletget well and better. Seems that so many stumble in the constant glare of the spotlight. He's admitted his fault which is the first step. I know nothing about what's happened, so if I've minimized or mischaracterized anything, sorry about that. I don't plan to check out the details.
Cameron Dunbar scored a nice free kick for Minnesota United 2. He has had one start for the senior team when they were severely depleted, but otherwise has been an unused sub there. 2 Bangers 2 Only (2023) pic.twitter.com/b9aVfpXIyO— MNUFC2 (@mnufc2) April 3, 2023
