Its a battle of who do I want to win the least. I hate the NUFC sports wash project, on the other hand I LOVE the endless memes about United having no trophies in recent history and want that to continue.
Likely, but it's not as if the teams above them will sit idle, either. With Newcastle making it a Big Seven it means even the big clubs will have to work harder to make the CL. Chelsea definitely added talent, and I'm not thrilled they added young talent, to boot, echoing the recent makeover Arsenal has done. Clearly they're hoping that the big price tag now will mean less spending needed in the years ahead. Big gamble, but potentially big reward. The question is will they be able to climb high enough and fast enough before FFO 2.0 catches up to them, knowing full well their fate also depends on other teams not strengthening, as well.
The other question is whether the players Chelski bought are any good. They paid finished product prices for works in progress.
Nice to see Tim Ream playing a big role in thwarting Chelsea... so far at least. A huge goal line clearance at 80'. Not a bad day for Antonee Robinson also perhaps? Still CHE 0-0 FUL
Saved Leno’s arse big-time on that one after the GK came well out of his box to play the ball and was easily beaten
A nice little result in SW6 tonight. Looks like Mr. Boehly is gonna have to wait just a little longer to reap rewards from his ridiculous investments. p.s. I didn't really watch the match, just had it on at times in the background. Before the final 10-15 mins, was there much real sense of urgency by Chelsea players, like they truly understood the importance of 3 points?
I wasn’t able to watch the whole match but caught more than half of it, so my comments might be incomplete. There was a sense of Chelsea urgency, and you can see some potential there, but no real cohesiveness or individual brilliance to earn 3 points. Fulham were organized and deserved the draw.
With all his options it may take Potter a while to identify his best team and the longer it takes the better for the rest of the league. Personally, I don’t believe his best team includes their golden boy, Mason Mount, nor do I believe it includes Mudryk ahead of Sterling on the left wing.
Chelsea have scored 22 goals in 21 games. After spending £600m this season. It’s mad. Also, Potter’s teams don’t score goals, so I don’t see him fixing them just by coming to grips with all his options.
I jest, but only a little. If they had thrown just a fraction of the half billion BPS they spent on players this season on a legitimate striker, they might be more improved by that one signing than they have been by all the rest of the signings combined
Imagine being a ********ing striker at Chelsea and not even making the bench. They spent so much money on literally every position except the one they badly need. If they had their time again I bet they go for Jesus over Sterling. Their loss. He was good for one of these every second game, and I was amazed when we sold him how many people were saying we should keep him for backup (despite him wanting out) and that he was a better shot stopper than Ramsdale (debatable). Why is he solo striker? I feel like he would play better playing off a striker.
No, he definitely cannot. I saw at least twice when he made a great interception or tackle to break up an attack, and then would launch forward only to badly misplay a pass.
Remember when he was called ‘the new Özil’? Or when @nicephoras said he would be comfortably Arsenal’s best attacker, despite that statement being made well after Saka’s emergence? Good times.
Ironically there are rumors he is quitting/retiring...so his spot definitely needs to be filled 🚨 Mesut Özil has requested his contract at Istanbul Başakşehir to be terminated, as he has decided to ‘quit’ football. Özil did not report to training this morning & has already told his team-mates of his decision. [@yakupcinar] #afc pic.twitter.com/N6VE7657Ch— afcstuff (@afcstuff) February 3, 2023
He was trying to come back after a back operation earlier this season. Back surgery isn’t something you come back from easily, even if you are an athlete.
I guess this final confirms the back rumours? It was said he had chronic issues in his later days at Arsenal.
