My hypothesis is there's a lot more going on behind the scenes than we know about. And there's a huge story here waiting to be broken and dots to be connected. Who's gonna be the one to do it.
I think what's being overlooked here is the fracture was between Reyna and his teammates, not between Reyna and Berhalter. Reyna not wanting to train wasn't an issue because it undermined Berhalter's authority or something; it was disruptive to the environment of the team at a World Cup. Apparently there needed to be a moment where Reyna acknowledged that he was being a heel; he himself may not even have known the impact he was having on his teammates.
Interesting. Do we have any current candidates that were in the navy and were one of two on a ship handling nuclear codes and then two years later were assigned one of the top stories of all time?
As long as he is still a candidate it is big signal that nothing was found against him in the investigation which allows him to seek other jobs and easily respond to their questions on the topic.
Jules Vernes? Think he may be too old but that would be very cool. I mean he was knowledgeable about boats so maybe Navy?
Dest chimes in: Dest said he was surprised by the drama around the U.S. men’s team since they returned from the tournament. Dest said he was unaware of the issues between winger Gio Reyna and Berhalter during the course of the tournament, learning of it only after the teams were home. He didn’t want to comment on the situation. “I’m just the kind of guy that minds my own business,” Dest said. “I’m just doing my own thing. And I didn’t hear a lot or too much about it. … I wasn’t really asking people too many questions and stuff because I don’t know what is true. And it’s not, to be honest, my business. It’s not my problem to be involved in.” https://theathletic.com/4154359/2023/02/03/sergino-dest-usmnt-world-cup-milan/
I mean like everyone else I have no idea. I’m just speculating as USSF will obviously get the report first before it’s released the public. And we’ve got all kinds of statements that it was close to wrapping up.
