Update: He's out for the 1st leg. Huge news for Bayern

I would love another Round of 16 exit for Qatar Saint Germain

Sums it up perfectly. The football is very entertaining, technical and overall a very good level but the infrastructure including officiating is bollocks

It's funny because foreign journalists complain about the lack of transparency all the time. Want to travel? Forget about cheap prices before hand, kick off times and days, we'll just let you know a week before the game. The portals and websites journalists use are slow and hopelessly outdated.

Premier League has also perfected how the game is supposed to look on TV. Same angles, same visual appearance across the league, all very coherent.

It's basically as if Spanish football has become too big for itself.

The kick wasn't taken in the right spot, but I think the point is this Barca side are very focused on the details, that's how a decent side puts in great performances. Hats off to Xavi for managing the little things that in aggregate make the difference.

You are talking as if this crazy spending by the top EPL teams is something new. Been going on for 20 years.

What's new is the bottom 12-14 EPL clubs are able to compete for players with the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan, etc. So, the league has more depth as opposed to the 2000s when there was "the Big 4" plus sixteen teams that a mid-table La Liga team would spank, and often did.

Spain used to hyperspend into mega debts. Let's not pretend Betis, Depor, Valencia being successful in Europe happened because of excellent work.

You talked about how this happens in cycles and suggested that this cycle would end due to the on-going mismanagement in England. So, I just reminded you that the EPL is much healthier now than back when this crazy spending started 20 years ago.

So, I wouldn't hold your breath for its demise. Individual clubs will experience down cycles, if not ruin, but for the league as a whole to tank like Serie A in early-2000s seems highly unlikely. What's far more likely is the EPL essentially becomes a super league in every way except by name.

The trend we are seeing is not a cycle but rather a snowball effect.

At the risk of already be beating a dead horse here ...

This is just after first contact is made and Gavi is already falling as you can see by his body angle. He is very close to the first edge of that shaded strip. Contact does carry through around midway through the width of the strip. Even if you count the carry through as the spot of the foul, which is fair and normal, it's still probably around 5 yards give or take a couple of yards from where the FK is taken.

    Here’s a pretty good video.

In my view, it’s not a good spot. Guido Rodriguez #5 is standing very close to where the spot of the foul is when Frenkie takes the kick.

Should Betis have been alert to the possibility? Sure. Should the ref have allowed that to be played? I don’t think so. We’ve seen them stop plays for more marginal positions than that.

I keep trying to write this post but I can't find a way of saying it the way I want, so I'm just gonna put it and interpret it however you want...

One thing that the Premier League has as a built-in advantage over the rest of Europe is the English language. Not to say the other leagues don't offer English-language services and broadcasts, but in terms of overall coverage and options, it's something the Premier League naturally has and it's a pretty big leg up to have over everybody else. This point can't be overlooked.

5-7 yards further from goal, I might add. In practice, refs aren't picky as long as you don't try to bring the ball closer to goal before taking the FK.

I don’t think this is controversial at all. It’s blatantly obvious that it’s an advantage.

Pretty blatant with that view and had that been us the referee would have called that back and these same cules would be preaching to us about how it is the rules

Good view. I don't see how that changes what I said. The foul starts and ends within the first half of the width of that strip. And in terms of the other axis (lets say the X axis which would be field lengthwise), the FK is taken at around where the foul is committed as far as I can track.

But yeah, agree to disagree at this point.

Which is absolutely shocking considering the amount of proof there is on this guy, phone calls, video, images.

If that's not enough, nothing will ever be.

United are doing fine currently, there’s no reason why this guy should ever play football for them (or any other club) henceforth.

Proof of what exactly? They probably only charged him in the first place because he's a high profile football player. Anyone else, this would be put down as a domestic dispute and they wouldn't have got involved at all.

What likely happened is it came to light they had a kinky side as a couple or the bruises she showed were just a gross exaggeration of something else. It's just so sad that people, especially seemingly grown men, can't go by the principle of innocent until proven guilty. Nothing was proved in this case.

We've seen the video of Neymar getting framed, Ched Evans spending time in jail for doing nothing wrong etc.

    Exactly.

These key witnesses have been paid off to be no part of the case. Meaning the CPS have no choice but to drop the charges.

I mean, the CPS had more than enough to charge him and set a trial date in court ffs.
