Thought I would start a thread where we can discuss what the roster will, should, could, might be. And, for those who were hoping to have Sam Mewis back, it looks like it will not happen. She just had an additional surgery on her knee and there is no timeline for her return:
Probably no Ertz: Jason Anderson @JasonDCsoccer Vlatko says #USWNT "probably not going to be able to count on" Julie Ertz for the World Cup, citing her lack of club playing time. First time he's addressed her status in a minute. (? from @HenryBushnell)
Reading this unfortunate news about Sam Mewis and Julie Ertz raises the question of how many members of the U.S. 2019 World Cup team will be our 2023 team. Lots of faces will be missing. Sending good wishes to Mewis and Ertz.
Going to link the prediction thread here, too: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/predicting-the-2023-wwc-roster.2122529/
Yes mods, my bad on the second thread, please merge. (I looked for a thread on this but did not see the earlier one.)
Absurd goalazo by A Thompson. She has certainly hit the ground running. Personally, I'd like to see her called in next window and would not be surprised if she ends up on the WC roster. Her speed and technical ability fit seamlessly as a winger off the bench IMO. We will see if she keeps it up or not but she already has a couple in impressive goals, first the preseason goal dribbling the keeper and now this (45 seconds into the video).
