your first and second paragraphs seem contradictory.

New york is a hot bed of soccer talent and NYCFC needs to be pumping out american talent in the ongoing future.....I get the built-in excuse that they havent been around for long. But i'm not buying that as the sole reason.

They just had a general attitiude of playing as few americans as possible in support positions whenever necessary.i reckon due to the globally minded influence of city group, and If the rules of MLS allowed, I feel they wouldnt have any americans at all....it may be changing a bit now with players like gray etc....but you yourself noticed that zelalem had a good game then couldnt get back on the field so im not going to start givng them the benefit of the doubt until they start producing talent.

Zelalem was an edge case who had good moments but also you could see why the coaches wouldn’t play him. NYCFC has played lots of Americans the last few seasons, whether HGs or guys they brought back from Europe to have success. They just don’t spend a lot of time playing bad players, and the technical requirements to be a part of their squad are much higher than the Red Bulls (for example) or the Crew or whatever. If you can’t keep up, you get benched.

Morales and Parks both spent a lot of time on the injured list last season but are locked in starters when fit. Kevin O’Toole, a draft pick, beat out a Danish LB who NYCFC paid a pretty hefty fee to sign. Every other position there are rotation players who are Americans.

Compare that to other expansion teams like Orlando or Miami, who aren’t as good and still don’t play as many Americans.

If Zelalem can move to Portugal and be successful more power to him, but the reason he didn’t succeed at multiple MLS teams is that he just wasn’t good enough to crack the rotation.

“Interest” from Boavista to Den Bosch, 16th in the Eerste Divisie. Big drop there. But I suspect his options are limited.

    67. There is the switch. Debutant Gedion Zelalem joins the team at @mijnfcdenbosch. Jorn van Hedel moves to the side for him.

If this doesn't become the new thread title, there's something seriously wrong with the mods.

OK, OK, more seriously wrong than usual. :D

Well, I guess the mods don't like my suggestion--or, at least, whomever changed the thread title.

He was the cream of the crap with the highest rating (pity the GK with a 0.4):

How do you put up a 7.7 in a team that concedes 13? Fotmob's gotta work on those ratings. :ROFLMAO:

I see now why they lost so badly. They pulled a chunky 15 year old kid from the stands to play in goal.
