I'm concerned for the handful of children who would have signed up for the course. Never really been a fan of the course as it's taught or suggested in most of the places I've heard the discussion. The problem IMO is that as long as it's taught separately, the student learns it in a vacuum and makes no connection between the events he reads about and the people he reads about in his US history classes.. It's like reading a docket full of crimes that are described in the passive... "A lynching took place... there was an unspoken requirement to step off the sidewalk... There was a water fountain designated for her use..." a curious mind would want to know who put that train in motion and how the other people felt about being on the tracks..
Also wondering how many Black students are involved in AP coursework. Those classes generally require permission from a faculty member to enroll. There aren't many social studies electives, or there are, but not a lot of time for them. As in my post above, the trick will be getting the shit told in the standard US and world history classes, or there won't really be a point.
Agree as to the goal. But steps in the right direction are not completely without value. Which is why they fight against them.
The excellent Tim Miller had a good Bulwark review of the post midterms GOP and DeSantis fanfic on Friday 1. The GOP learned nothing from the midterms. They just blamed Trump for their losses then doubled down on crazy. This is especially seen in state politics, but also in the House where there is no 'traditional establishment GOP" anymore - just MAGA establishment. 2. The hope of GOP elites is that Trump dies, or DeSantis wins and gets everything 'back to normal' - that is literally the plan. Cowards.

I'm increasingly of the mind that there really can't be a 'standard' US or world history course. The whole concept of the survey course needs to be jettisoned.

I'm a beekeeper that befriended the space lasers. I also led my college's horse dancing team to the championship.

There is a necessary subtlety involved in most the schools where this stuff is taught. Mostly because there are different conversations at home. I worked in a school in a (long standing) conservative district where many of the staff were liberal. But some of the students did not talk about that stuff at home, so when they got to school, it had to be dealt with in a less blunt way than in any urban schools I taught at.
I'm a mall cop who fought in the Civil War and led my college's rappelling team to the championship. 2/3 ain't bad.
