Luquinhas flew out from Poland late last night (as reported) and landed in New York today. Everything now in the hands of the Red Bulls. We should be seeing the announcement go down very, very soon. #NYRB

    Is he any good?

But he's not a CF I gather, so sadly we can't replace a bad Pole with a good Pole.

The Red Bulls, reportedly, say it was all in the hands of Major League Soccer.
The United Irish Associations of West Hudson, rightfully, don’t care whose fault it is — they’re just not happy about it.
But because the United Irish have always been pro-active and forward-thinking, always keeping West Hudsonians in mind, the issue at hand — the New York Red Bulls, who have never played a home game outside of New Jersey — will host their home opener to the MLS soccer season at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 13, as scheduled against Minnesota United — and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which has always been on the same Sunday in March, since, ever, will instead step off an hour earlier, at 1 p.m., so there’s not a nightmare traffic scenario in Harrison.

I'm a little late to this news, but just saw it in an email from NYRB. Can't say I expected Caden to be loaned back to us so quickly but I guess it was always an option they could use, especially since it's all one big happy RB family. ;) I guess his loss in form after his injury had something to do with this.

In other news, I see that they also have a season-long loan for Tom Edwards who I think is solid. Maybe his ceiling isn't that high, but he's pretty consistent, has some versatility and seems a good dude to have on your side.

Still I wait to see if we can get in a truly good goal-scoring forward. Or did I miss that news too? ;)

Edit: I left out Lewis Morgan who I know nothing about... I guess he can contribute to goals but it seems he's not gonna be a CF for us.

    Ay yay yay.

From the sounds of it he's not too broken up to leave after a "quick" 2 years. There was nothing like "this was a really tough decision... that came out of the blue... etc". So, without any other info, I'd guess that someone wasn't happy, either Kevin, Marc or both.

Potentially great step up for Thelwell, except perhaps that Everton have an awful management record of late. And will that be Hamlett, for temporary or permanent, assuming he's still kicking around the club?

But is it good or bad for NYRB for him to be gone? That's not clear to me.

But it's definitely disruptive to our club, our team, when the position you ideally want the most longevity out of, the guy who is shaping your team long-term, arguably more than anyone, all of a sudden leaves on the day before your opening kick.

And then whatever new guy we can find, won't be a carbon copy of the old guy, so there's likely to be disagreement with the prior vision/plan. And will that be Hamlett, either interim or permanent, assuming he's still kicking around the club?

    Benefica B, fwiw.

I've been waiting a while for a big move by RBs and this wasn't exactly what I had in mind. But hopefully he's decent.

RBNY or RB in general must have some key scout(s) in Poland. Lately there have been so many connections with players who played there. And I suppose if you're needing to bargain shop?...

Thx for sharing. Not necessarily too exciting. Especially Duncan who I’ve never rated. Stroud’s name is familiar because his bro played briefly with us. What a family! Maybe the baby will come good?

I love how there are so few of us that threads from previous seasons are continuing. If you know a Mod just have them turn this into the off-season thread. This has been a very quiet off-season for us and I am not that excited about the season.

I am one of the off Americans who follow the Belgian league. One note from them.

"* Dante Vanzeir has decided he wants to leave Union St. Gilloise in Belgium for the New York Red Bulls. It is now waiting for both clubs to come to an agreement."

    Here is the link.

    Here is his Transfermarket profile.

God knows we haven't had a decent CF in how many years??? Might he be that? I have no idea.

Here's some more updates on Vanzeir and others, that I snipped from MLS's website:

I hope this Belgian kid is good and that finally, finally we can get someone who really earns his pay as a CF. I chuckled when they said Klimala has been a little hard to find a buyer for. No shit, he's been an absolutely useless DP for us. Happy to hear that Morgan & Luguinhas are staying... I rate both of them, if they can just maintain some consistency/fitness.

p.s. I second @Deadtigers recommendation to change the thread title to just "offseason" getting rid of reference to any particular year ;) Is there a mod around here who can do that??

Just watched USA-COL friendly, where Long & Tolkin played next to each other again.

It was John's first cap from what I know, and he had an OK game and looked like the same old guy we've known for a few years... a little wild on the attack, and definitely not shy on either side of the ball. Anyway happy for him in getting the call up.

Aaron was also just OK I thought... even maybe not quite, given expectations. He was slow on one of his biggest challenges... a fast break. I'm starting to wonder if he's reached his ceiling. He's got one or two years to prove himself with USMNT, assuming whatever coach we have going forward is willing to give him a chance.

Any expected official announcement of our NEW DP? And where does Manoel now fit into system? Two forward setup or Super Sub role? I think lack of finishing from forwards has been addressed. We never lack in buildup, it’s always that final third pass and finish that kills RBNY. Let’s look for a step forward!!

I think Burke will go to 9 with Vanzir coming in off the wing. Morgan goes on the other wing and Luqui will be the 10. Maneol will be the off the bench guy for Burke or Vanny. I assume Omir will be in the mix on wing to make those guys fight for time. Having 5-6 guys fight it out for 4 spots is always good.

My concern is the back 4. Assuming it's Dru, Cascares, and Amaya will fight for the midfield two spots. Who will be our FB and CB?

“Who will be our FB and CB?”

Reyes and Nealis in the middle with Tolkin and I’m assuming Duncan on the outside. We just severely lack depth in these spots.
