I've never seen the two of you in the same place at the same time... hmmmm. And I agree on St. Aubin. She knows her stuff.
Agree that Balboa and Cobi are sub-par analysts. Does Balboa still do that thing where he lets out a seemingly random "aaaaaa" ("a" as in "back") in his nasally best, apparently to emphasize a moment? I have avoided listening to him for several years. Kind of dismayed that we aren't rid of Taylor Twellman. But happy about some of the others.
Fo me it comes to preparation and style. An engaging style of broadcasting a match is not easy and some wont ever get to a good, unique way that is their own but you can prepare like nobody else and that is very engaging on it's own. Know the teams, their coaches and their styles of play. Know the players with exactly the same focus. Who is is injured and missing. Who is coming back from injury. Who is new to a team. Let us know who are the player to watch in every position as the game rolls along in both teams. Let us know when coaches are attempting to switch formations and for what purpose and if it works. Why is the team moving up the sides only or one particular side. Why are they trying short corners and what is the advantage. Why are they subbing now. Why arent they subbing now. Make quick evaluations of what teams need to do and why or why not its working during the match. How are teams shutting down the opposing team as the game remains scoreless. Narrate, comment, inform, teach, and if possible be entertaining doing it (style.) The Hearns and Scullys are few and far between but that's the goal. Don't just get together on match day and blab away like your watching the game at home.
Tim Cook met Ricky Tim Cook 🤝 Riqui Puig pic.twitter.com/p6pKIVhm9b— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) January 12, 2023 I will say Tim looks a lot more enthused here than he did waving the checkered flag in Austin.
Interesting tweet from Joe Tutino. for context: replying a Galaxy tweet asking if anyone had plans to go to away games. I do https://t.co/a9aqKFlntZ— Joe Tutino (@joetutino) January 19, 2023
COTG was speculating that they might start the Radio sync option this year - where you can watch the AppleTV national feed but have the audio synced from your local radio broadcast - so if Tutino isn't getting hired a national contract, would have to think he's been hired to do the radio and "local" AppleTV feed.
They added Cobi Jones, but not Joe Tutino, to the broadcast teams for Apple TV Apple and Major League Soccer add 31 talented on-air personalities to the MLS Season Pass broadcast team. https://t.co/iAPnlkTSTZ— MLS Communications (@MLS_PR) January 30, 2023
I’ve never enjoyed Cobi’s work in a broadcast booth. Too bad for Joe. Hopefully the Galaxy can lead the way with getting the promised radio audio track thing that synchs to video going. Maybe they can reunite Joe and Ralph Perez. I have my doubts that the galaxy will actually pay for that though.
My sense, based on Tutino’s social media posts, is they have already hired him or at least assured him of something, whether Galaxy II MLS Next Pro or Galaxy or marketing etc. Nevertheless, it sounds like Apple TV isn’t quite done with hiring If my math is right, the remaining slots open for the MLS-Apple broadcaster roster are:2 English play by play1 English game analyst8 Spanish PBP8 Spanish game analysts1 French PBP1 French game analyst— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) January 30, 2023
Last Friday we are watching Cholos vs Pumas and who pops up as color commentator? That's right! Coin Jones! He was working the mike for Fox and actually, he wasnt that bad. But yeah, he's everywhere. It wouldn't have surprised me if he was doing it in Spanish.
Thank you for the kind words, Wayne. I still will be calling Galaxy matches. I’m sure the club will clarify when the time is right Right now, let’s celebrate this group. It’s a milestone for them 💙🤍💛— Joe Tutino (@joetutino) January 30, 2023
I also really like Joe along with his history working for the club. I’m glad it seems he will be doing SOMETHING going forward. Local audio seems likely and if they can get it to synch with the Apple streams, I know what I will be listening to when it comes time to put on a Galaxy game.
Yes, they are definitely going to allow the local radio sync option - it's just a question of whether they will have it ready to roll out this season or will it go live next season.
I vote they hire our multiple Emmy nominated sound editor/uber-moderator as a consultant to get them going. Now where do I put my ballot?
Some familiar faces will be leading #Rapids96 content this season 👀Marcelo Balboa, Jordan Angeli and Drew Moor headline Colorado's on-air personalities for 2023.📰>>https://t.co/UsAa7rRVL3 pic.twitter.com/o95bwr2nSW— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) January 31, 2023 Hopefully we see something like this for Joe (and others?) soon.
Just in case you thought that at least our digital media and communications team was reasonably competent. Every MLS club including St. Louis City SC, who hasn't played a league match yet, has an awesome Club Profile vignette on MLS #SeasonPass. All except for one...guess which one. pic.twitter.com/NbfwNhPVdy— LA Galaxy 310 𝕏 (@LAGalaxy310) February 2, 2023
I've never done anything like that and have no idea how the technology works. But if there is one thing I have learned from Chris Klein, it's to never let a lack of knowledge, talent or ability stop you from failing all the way to the top. So count me in!
There's nice interview piece with Chicharito and Wiebe on there from media day. In addition, there are currently four player profile videos, too: Chicharito, Bond, Dejan and Brugman. Suspect there will be more eventually.
Carlos Ruiz is going to be a match analyst for the Spanish broadcasts. I guess it makes sense given how many teams he can claim to have played for in the league! NEWS: Former LA Galaxy legend Carlos Ruiz is added to AppleTV's list of Match Analysts on the Spanish side of things. ⚽️🐟#LAGalaxy #MLS pic.twitter.com/HmYPTBcUrv— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) February 8, 2023
