who who are you? .... it was the best we ever had. oh - separate point - Yorkshire is not terribly far from where they filmed Harry Potter ... Alnwick Castle in Northumberland ...
Brutal game from Juve today, so he’s getting out just as things start imploding there. Allegri going to be walking out soon.
Something called "music" was available in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s. It was beautiful, creative, and joyous. It started slowing fading away in the 1990s, and by the 2000s it was essentially gone. People today generally can't write music, can't sing without auto-tune, and can't play instruments at all. It's mostly utter crap today. There are a few exceptions, of course, but it's nothing like it was. It's just embarrassing and sad. The Golden Age of Rock 'N Roll passed long ago. Rock, Punk, New Wave, Funk, Disco, ... it was all different, creative, electric, and amazing. The lyrics quoted by @freisland are from this song: All music is sound, but not all sound is music. Lawnmowers, jackhammers, and blenders make sounds but they don't make music. Sound has overtone, timbre, pitch, amplitude, duration. But to be music it should also have: Melody. Harmony. Rhythm. Texture. Structure/form. Expression (dynamics, tempo, articulation) I now leave you with an ancient and beautiful relic.
Sorry, the decline of music is one of my pet peeves. It's not soccer/football related, so I'll shut my yapper now. Carry on.
I have looked into the future. Leeds will finish 16th. Half the Leeds fans will get their panties in a twist because the Niners will retain Marsch. In the summer they acquire a young CB and LB and lose the oldsters. Next year they finish 10th. Panties remain twisted.
I’m a musician myself and feel empathy for you BUT readily disagree I used to feel like the 70s were the absolute untouchable pinnacle of sound but have shifted in opinions. Not sure if you mainly mean pop/rock or some other style which is your favorite…but there have always been trash and gems It may have been easier to find the greats with little effort back in the “golden” era of music but now we have access to more globally that’s fantastic To each their own though! If you ever wanna chat more about music, dm me
Ah, ok, now I get the “Live at Leeds” reference. Sorry, I’ve never listened to The Who. Any”who”, my preference for a new thread title is Weston Union…(unless a better one comes along)
There have always been trash and gems. Of course that is true. However, today it's mostly trash. I mean it's not even close. The change in the frequency of good music is astronomical. There is no "untouchable pinnacle of sound", however. There have been so many different styles of music and it has changed so much over the years. I like literally every style of music. It's not about style. It's about skill and creativity. Guitarists from the olden days could play circles around today's musicians. Within my family, for example, are people who have achieved great notoriety and success in music and played regularly on MTV, if you know what that is. They are old but still play concerts today and make a decent living, but it's not like it once was. There's comparatively little money to be made in music today, and that's a big reason why people can't play. They didn't put in the 10,000+ hours required to get good at their instrument. They can't afford to and/or they expected instant gratification. Music culture barely exists as it once did. Singers today often can't hit notes and hold them. They think if their voice vibrates then they are singing. It's a joke. I'll tell you what, if you can play this Larry Carlton classic with the same quality as this lady, then you will have my deepest respect. I will take this discussion to PM from here on out. Sorry, mods.
The evaluation of art is mostly subjective. Technical competence is not, but the “quality” of art is. Meanwhile, Weston McKennie …
Agree. Grew up on Zeppelin, Stones, Who, etc but can get into newer music easily. Like it all. Simon and Garfunkle were ok, but Disturbed really knocked Sound of Silence out of the park IMO. Who would have guessed? Tons of talent out there today.
What is he like the third or fourth yank to have played in several of the top 5 leagues? Keller- Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga Bradley- Bundesliga, Premier League, Serie A and now McKennie
