Point is, we signed him during the transfer window, regardless of when he arrived. He was not in the "marketplace" in May. If we sign a star player who cannot arrive until May, I doubt many people would be concerned. If we wait until the summer transfer window to even locate and sign a player, that is a concern.
Ezra promised a striker who could score 15 goals a season. Antonio has barely made it to 10 most of his career. Only made it over 10 in a single season in the Championship. Was not his only season in a lower division, all his others he finished below 10 goals. We need someone who puts the ball in the back of the net, not someone who "does other things." We have enough guys who do other things and not enough guys who score goals. We need someone who scores goals.
Statistically it will be almost impossible for anyone on our team to challenge for the golden boot with our tactics.
I am taking your response as a U22 striker within 30 days, followed shortly by a medium TAM LB and then by the DP striker. Thank you. Others Ideas?
Agree that the time period between signing and fielding a player able to contribute is important and can vary substantially.
If Durán’s minutes last season were stretched out over a full season, he gets within sniffing distance- it’s a question of talent more than tactics.
The problem now is we’ve replaced a two-way RB with a one-way RB. I said it earlier but while we might increase our conversion rate, we might also reduce our opportunities.
Might, but don’t have enough to know one way or another. Do you think the Cbus & Sounders teams playing 4-2-3-1 (when Ezra was on staff) strictly/only attacked with 4?
Not a single signing overnight. How depressing. I was hoping to wake up and have it like Christmas morning, with a Designated Player and a few other players as Joe's present to us long suffering Fire fans. Oh, wait, I really didn't get anything for Christmas, either. Oh, and I have to take down the Christmas tree this weekend (I was going to take it down three weeks ago but my partner wanted to leave it up a while longer).
Mixed feelings about the Antonio rumors. The range is tear it up to a slightly less flaccid version of Kasper. I fully get that there's gonna be a level of uncertainty, but Antonio's projected performance could be virtually anything. Am typically not concerned by age when a player turns 30. But Antonio's body type suggests a more rapid drop-off could be in the cards than players with more normal football physiques. It's difficult to weigh an Antonio acquisition when you don't know who else can be had. That said, Heitz will really be rolling the bones if this comes to fruition.
True, but I think I recall him scoring on us twice, which is why I remember. Am i remembering that right?
Yes AND.... He scored a brace in the April match after we scored first...we lost 1-2 And he scored the 91st min goal of the May match to tie, two minutes after we had taken the lead.
MLS side Chicago Fire have made an official proposal offer to Nottingham Forest/Olympiacos player Hwang Ui-jo to make him their Designated Player 🇰🇷 #transfersDiscussions ongoing in order to find an agreement. pic.twitter.com/j3nGcXcjMw— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) January 29, 2023
That's strange as Notts Forest just bought him for 4 million € in August, and then loaned him out. Selling him makes little sense, but there are rumors about the Fire, Minnesota, LAFC and Portland expressing interest. Don't really know much about him.
Looking at Tranfermrkt, it looks like an apt description of this guy would be "meh". Ezra's goal of a 15 goal DP striker? Not impossible, but I would not put $5 bucks on it happening. This would be making "little plans", and hoping for the best.
Let's just say there were two highly rated Korean strikers on the market this winter. He is neither of them.
It’s certainly not ‘a bigger signing than Shaqiri’…which is my hope, because we can clearly afford to go bigger. That said, for those that want a DP9 signed before the season starts…we could do worse. His stats don’t knock your socks off, but his highlight reels show good movement and finishing. Trying to decipher if his 10G/year at Bordeaux translates to 15+ in the MLS…
