Y’all gonna cry real tears when MLS gets to 40 and institutes it’s own p/r that is just between its own teams and doesn’t involve anyone who didn’t buy in.
Nah. The top 10 teams will join the top 10 ligaMX teams in the Concacaf super League with no spending cap and MLS will be left with the remnants.
I'm not sure it is as uncommon as we think. I'm using Football Manager's editor right now and they have it organized that way as well for dates.
If you don't remember the days of Jade then you aren't a real fan. You also must know that real people get their rumors from a bartender in NY.
Why do the broadcasters & USSoccer still insist on claiming sellouts when they obviously aren’t? Thx, Jay!
Don't think I want any complaints about "American" TV direction of MLS games this year. Whenever anything happens in this Wrexham game they zoom in on Ryan Reynolds in his box.
Rapids beat Liga MX side Queretaro in a friendly today 1-0. After the 90 minutes the teams agreed to scrimmage for another 30. The Rapids sent on a bunch of Academy and Rapids 2 players and lost the 120 minute match 3-1.
It's because MLS doesn't tell a good story, bruh! Anyone notice that they moved the goal post from "I don't watch MLS because of quality" to "MLS needs to tell good stories so people can watch"?
When MLS finally tells the good stories it has to tell the goalposts will move to (back to?) MLS doesn't have promotion & relegation.......or MLS teams don't play enough Americans.......the regular season is meaningless......etc......
Who are "they" again? I've honestly never heard this line of criticism. My problem with sports broadcast(s) across the board is the idea that the game itself isn't narrative enough.
This complaint has been all over social media this weekend being contrasted with the Wrexham storyline.
By journalists and the media or by just consumers? I don't really do social outside of BS and Reddit but it is a small but loud group of people that the algorithms elevate the the loudest and crankiest.
Oh its the same cranks that go on about pro/rel, but there are a number of journalists/talking heads/whatever joining in with them on this one. For example: Don't be mad at Wrexham or ESPN, be mad at your club's inability to sell a narrative...— Justin Horneker (@hornekerjustin) January 30, 2023
He isn't the level of "journalist" I was referring to - but okay. Was there something about the FA Cup broadcast that was unique? I've seen cutaways to owners in many EPL/UEFA matches before.
That was just the one I could get to the quickest since it was in my notification. There were others as well. I think the ESPN comment was the hype they built around the game, the actual broadcast was just picking up the feed from whomever was broadcasting it in the UK.
It just seemed like a lot to me. Sheffield scored early on (first minute or so) and they showed the goal scorer celebrating, cut to the Sheffield fans for a second or two, and then cut to Ryan Reynolds for about 10 seconds. After every Wrexham goal they showed him celebrating. In fact, I think at one point they showed multiple replays of people in the box celebrating when they took the late lead. Also pretty sure they showed him after every goal Wrexham conceded.
I get the hype - a 5th tier team playing a second Championship team in a row having knocked off the first one would be a story pretty much everywhere. It helps that the documentary elevated the team into the zeitgeist and the discussion around the WC Welsh team and their t-shirts continued the discussion.
Yes, goal post will move again and I'm thinking one of their excuses or main excuse will be "MLS is trying to hard to copy xxxx. It isn't original and looks plastic".
It's all over social media. Specially from accounts that love to hate on MLS just for being MLS. Do you really need a narrative or story telling to watch a game? Maybe it's just me but I will watch a game if I have interest in it, not doing anything, or because I follow that team/league/sport without the need of someone telling me a story about it. But then again that's just me.
They can whine and complain, make excuses, whatever they want. I don’t give a shit anymore. At the end of the day, the money they have to spend to fly across the atlantic to watch one game For their dumbass epl teams I can watch an entire season of pretty high level football. remember. These morons think European Football is only played in Manchester, London, Barcelona, Madrid, Munich, Rome, and Milan.
Just flipped the TV on and it happened to be on CBS where I see semi-professional golfer and former LAFC bench player Gareth Bale being interviewed.
