    He went the whole way, but they concede in the 92nd minute and lose on penalties. So no more EFL cup gametime for him this year.

    And Norwich use every field player sub today ... except Tomkinson. No league debut.

    Good word from a Norwich source:

    Chris Reeve
    @ChrisReevo

    Only positive tonight is Tomkinson.

    Very impressed with the youngster, looked completely comfortable. Bright future for the lad.

    Well played, Jonathan.

    Tomkinson made the bench today against Stoke, in a Sargentless ESPN+ match. Don't imagine he'll play, but nice to see continued confidence.

    For as much as Norwich hypes their youth and integration program, they don't seem to use it much. Tomkinson's been their reserve captain for years, and all he can get is get a game in the league and in the Cup. Then a move to League 2. Then would they actually trust him after this? I doubt it. At least he could have moved to League 1.

    I would definitely not advocate sending our players to there anymore, unless they're already relegated to the Championship, and spent 10m for a guy apparently. In that scenario in can work out alright I guess.

    Whistled for a PK but to me looks unbelievably harsh. The announcers are saying it'd almost certainly have been reversed if there had been VAR, which I agree with. Looked like a clean tackle in the box to me.

    12' - A positive start from Boro but yet to test Rose in the Sutton goal.

    Jonathan Tomkinson has come into the centre of the back three, with Michael Bostwick on his right & Pidge on the left.

    Jonathan Idah? Andrew Omobamidele? Sam McCallum? Jonathan Rowe? Liam Gibbs?

    That's just the U-22s in their current squad.

    So your case is just it's a bad place if you're American trying to breakthrough, w/out a previous track record in Europe? Because maybe that's the only issue.

    It's pretty silly Tomkinson's gotten such little chance to this point, when he was their reserve captain, and on the precipice for years now.

    If all he managed was a loan to League Two, there's probably a reason he didn't break through at a club bouncing between the Premier League and Championship.

    Being a youth team captain doesn't really mean anything.
