Yeah who knows? She might have Dortmund's management programmed in her phone right now!

If it seems I am harsh on her it is because I am. I am involved in grassroots soccer and some parents are very invested in their child's sports "career".

I nominate Chris Klein for the open GM role for US Soccer. He's really great! He won an MLS Cup the first year he joined the Galaxy as GM/President and it totally isn't because he inherited a team built by Bruce Arena. I'm sure in the 10 years since he's had lots and lots of additional success but I'm a tad too busy to double check. Seems certain.

He's really smart, says lots of smart things and um, he once scored a bicycle kick in a superliga match (in a loss of course). Ummmm, he has a buddy named Jovan that might come too.

    2 for 1! Everyone loves a bargain.

A good lesson not to provoke people. Like not to show finger to a driver in a car next to you. That driver might have a gun and not being in a good mood.

Talking about this Bruce would be great actually for that GM position. Doubt he needs all this shit of course.

I see a lot of nominations here that are really for McBride's role of "GM."

I have no idea what they're going to do with this sporting director role that Stewart held.
That role oversaw both the men's and women's teams, along with the youth teams.
I have a feeling that the day-to-day decision making on the USMNT was left to McBride.
To me that's the really vital role as we start a cycle.

I don’t think McBride really had day to day decision making, hence why he left and hence why they may not replace him. The Athletic article lays it out pretty well, but his duties mostly consisted of interacting with clubs and helping lead selection of youth national team coaches (in concert with Stewart). The article states there were clear redundancies with a Sporting Director as involved as Stewart and a coach as hands on as Berhalter.

And the GM on the women’s side has a lot more responsibility than McBride did and those two positions are very different.

    It’s all here https://theathletic.com/4128014/202...changes-explained/?source=user_shared_article

They could hire a GM and actually empower them the way the GM on the women’s side is. And then the sporting director would be a buffer between the soccer side and the business side of the federation. But that would be a new structure. Or they may just not hire a GM at all.

Huh....Claudio out at Austin FC...that's interesting.

    Anywho. Just a thought:

The USSF has a new CEO. What do new CEO's usually do first? Open the books and do a deep dive. McBride's Contract was up. A new position he was interested in suddenly was put on indefinite hold.

It looks like Stewart was exploring other opportunities since before the World Cup too. Supposedly Stewart was under contract until 2026. According to the Athletic, his Family decided they didn't want to live in Chicago. I was under the impression that his Family did come to Philly with him. He talked about being excited to have his son attend YSC Academy. I can definitely see why he would want to go back to the Netherlands. Although he was under consideration and had interviewed for Atlanta United's President role. Earnie is a builder. He takes on tough jobs. IMO, he wanted to move on from the USSF after the World Cup. He wanted a new challenge and to be closer to his wife and kids. The Berhalter/Reyna stuff likely made him realize he was making the correct decision.

Just like he did at AZ and then Philly, he put in systems and processes that are repeatable, and will bring success. Once all that hard work of building the foundation was in place, he started looking for a new challenge.

Conveniently for Baston this clears out a big expense for 2023. For the first time in over 20 years the USSF has had to negotiate deals for media rights & sponsorships, they have to sell tickets and market their events....sure they've negotiated about the same money they were previously getting from SUM, only now they have to pay their own people to do the work. There's some cost cutting/restructuring at play here too.

All that said....Would Peter Vermes be interested? John Thorington? Garth Lagerway just started at Atlanta United so he's not in contention. That could free up Boca though, as Lagerway would likely want to bring in his own GM/SD/TD person. Bezbatchenko would be an interesting hire. Ideally whoever they hire would not only be good at the soccer ops side of things, but could also be a public face for US Soccer. Someone who's good with the media, etc.

Wow. What the hell actually went down? There must be some inflammatory emails or texts that Claudio was involved with.

I never thought this had any connection to his current job so for him to resign is pretty stunning.

I doubt there is something inflammatory re Claudio. His club hates off the pitch controversy. He has not resigned; modern journalists are lazy. He is still with the club as a technical advisor, and no one new is filling his spot. Looks like an optics move to me.

    Mess level 11.

Renyas threw Earnie a stink bomb and he told Cindy “hey, there’s a stink bomb in here and also I’m out so gl.” Cindy is on hold with stink bomb removal squad (waiting time approximately 6 months.) Meanwhile Austin says “Claudio, what’s that stink on your jacket?”

In that case more third parties may think it’s okay to attempt to influence player selection. I could see a certain goliath grouper giving the Reynas a call with some information.

That results in Sportsology conducting a Sporting Director search expected to last through the summer, and then who knows how long a coaching search? I didn't want to overly rush anything, but that sounds to me like a program adrift.

I don’t know what the right answer is for the whole sporting director/GM thing except for one thing.

Carlos Bocanegra should never be within 100 miles of a management position with US Soccer. He’s pile driven Atlanta United. If he is selected for any role with US Soccer besides getting coffee for people, then we might as well forget about any hope for success in 2026.

    You nailed it!

In all seriousness, when you write bullshit like this, right before you hit POST REPLY, what are you thinking? Like, bringing up Berhalter’s kid here, what are you trying to accomplish? Do you think you’re improving the signal to noise ratio? Do you realize you’re making it worse but don’t care? I’m genuinely curious. Why do trolls troll? What do you get out of it?
OK, But those things haven’t (not) happened yet. It doesn’t make sense to criticize the Fed based on certainty about an uncertain future.
We are all just as big of a fan of the team and the sport as you are.

it’s one thing to believe Bocanegra is a poor choice.

But who the hell thinks a sporting director for a federation has this kind of influence? Nobody. And everyone reading your post knows that. Do you? If you do, why did you post it? If you don’t know that, then, well, you don’t really understand anything we discuss in N&A, so why don’t you stick with the general forum?

You are so confused. I'm not from the fed, I'm not bringing anyone from that wonderful family, not in the nepotism business. Should I care about them?

I’m not confused. We all have to play on the same playground, and the kid who picks his nose and then wants to shake my hand is a bad playmate. He messes up the whole playground vibe. Stay on topic, and don’t compete to have the most Skip Baylessesque/Stephen A-like take on every issue, and we’re good.

I mean, I get the value of being the most outrageous talking head on ESPN’s morning shows. A lot of people dig that and it’ll make you rich. The many posters here who try to nail the best zinger are just making this forum…not general, but N&A…the most notorious cesspool on this site, even above Yanks Abroad. At least in YA, some threads have a solid signal to noise ratio. Almost nothing here does.
