There’s only so many subpar games that can be offset by that reasoning. In my mind, Sinisterra is a winger and Wes should play in the center, but I guess people can disagree.
In fairness the last 20 years were a blip. They ARE a big club that got out over their ski’s financially and nearly went under. Once you fall down like they did it takes time to get back up. Are they back? we’ll see, but make no mistake they are historically one of Englands big teams, just outside the big 6. They’ve finally come out of the wilderness so apprehension about Marsch is expected.
If they get relegated, Wes goes back to Juve. Adams will be sold to another middle of the road PL team. Aaronson, he may end up in the Bundi.
I am well aware of their history. But as you say, to expect big club performance under their current circumstances is not realistic. To a certain extent, every team’s English fans indulge their own impatience, treating every disappointing loss as “UNACCEPTABLE!,“ “NOT GOID ENOUGH!” etc. but even the most reasonable leads fans don’t seem to have a full appreciation for the direction things are going on their roster. At least, in my opinion.
No way, no how could Forrest have hijacked Wes away from Leeds. You can’t discount the fact Wes will play with familiar faces at Leeds, versus….who? at Forrest??? So if the choice is between two relegation teams, of course Wes would choose Leeds over Forrest. Now Arsenal OTOH, I could see hijacking Wes from Leeds, but I’m not sure there was legit interest from Arsenal (as in actual negotiations).
Just total speculation on my part, but I could see a Weston energy infusion powering Leeds to a few well needed points before folks figure out how to deal with him. Could see Bamford (the assist man!) getting some extra space due to McKinnie's presence. That's my hope anyway. I've decided to optimistic, so undoubtedly it will be a disaster.
Wes and Tyler are going to tear it up. Would you say that the US national teams back line was particularly strong during the World Cup? Or was it the midfield that made the difference defensively? Leeds fans unhappy with today’s FA Cup victory how defined success as finishing 12 or higher. So they’re going to be unhappy regardless. But I assume that Jesse stays if he avoids relegation. If LUFC exercise Wes’ the option, and pick up a good LB, they are going to make a run at the top half of the table next year. Which out to be considered a success.
Wes played fullback at Schalke on several occasions. Maybe Marsh puts him there to shore up the defense? LOL Lots of yankee eggs in the Leeds basket now. They must not get relegated! As a USA fan-boi that would be a total embarrassment.
Leeds didn't want a relegation clause, Juventus needed to do something, anything, to start cleaning house. Loan with max price if Leeds stays up and Wes likes playing. Seems like a pretty sensible deal. (also Leeds is probably figuring Juventus is in worse financial come June. Leaves them negotiating room if Wes isn't a desired commodity.)
Seems odd that Mackennie turned down Villa for Leeds but perhaps the Yank factor made a big difference- hopefully it doesn’t translate to more distractions off the field although Adams seems pretty dialed in. Maybe he’ll be a good influence on Big Mac. From a fan POV it will be fun - and hopefully unleashes our chaos merchant (rather than some of the more restrained Juventus performances). It does seem like a potentially good fit.
Ironical? Seems such a weirdly good deal for Leeds unless there is more of an obligation to buy if he plays X minutes or something. https://www.hammers.news/transfer-n...nnie-as-leeds-reportedly-strike-january-deal/
Without getting into the same arguments as yesterday I just don't really think he's worth as much as the (reported) buy clause. I hope he proves me wrong, helps lead Leeds to a respectable finish and looks like a bargain this time next year.
It seems to me that it’s the rare deal that’s good for everyone. Juventus is betting on McKennie looking good enough that other teams will spend the money even if Leeds go down. I think that’s a petty safe bet. Worst case scenario, he goes back to them, which is not exactly a terrible thing.
Yea, the thing is, if he helps them stay up, the buy clause is ash tray money for Leeds. The TV money is so absurd even a club like Leeds that doesn't do huge worldwide sales or corporate sponsors will be fine. That said, you overpay enough and even an EPL budget will be strained, or like Chelsea, the opportunity cost of fielding actual good players instead of overpriced mediocrities will come home to roost.
It was a panic thing IMO. Leeds have half of their midfielders injured (Forshaw, Gray, Dallas) and Juve needed to reduce the bill. Radrizzani wants out and deBartolo is a very cautious investor. I have no idea whence the $30m would be coming.
Now, I’m old enough to remember when people were sure that the €25 million Juve paid for WM (€4.5 mill loan fee + €20.5 mill transfer with performance clauses, all arranged at once) was just a marketing ploy…and that he’d never play because he wasn’t good enough. Now after proving himself at Juve, and consistently beating out players who were so much better than him, it’s good to see that there is no way he is worth €30 million (when inflation alone would account for most, if not all, of the difference). I love me some consistency
Oh he's worth the 30 million. I just don't see Leeds spending that much (even if they stay up) on yet another midfielder (they have plenty, it's only that half are injured) unless they sell some first.
Weston McKennie will unite with USMNT teammates Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson at Leeds. Leeds are in 15th, one point above relegation.Leeds could pay around ~$85m for an all-American midfield:-$30m for Aaronson-$18m + add-ons for Adams-$35m purchase option for McKennie https://t.co/GtF1MiPIqy— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) January 28, 2023
I would not assume that. The bar may need to be higher. We can agree that that is the minimum bar level.
People keep saying this, and I’m not so sure. I wish I had your confidence. The issue for Leeds is their back line, and Wes does not shore that up. however, Wober appears to be a good pick up for their D, and if he stays consistent, and if Wes can bang in some goals, they will stay up. I just don’t think it’s a guarantee like some on here think, but I’m rooting for it.
