Vasquez scores off a Gressel cross in their USMNT debuts.

I'm thrilled for them both, but the pessimist in me says this will be the highlight of Atlanta United's year.

Damn... so you're thinking we'll suck so bad that a highlight featuring two former players is going to be the best thing we see all season?

It feels to me that the bill has come due for all the bad contracts the club has signed the past few years. It's left the club with little wiggle room to signing new players (I've heard the club had trouble resigning Sejdic, who was basically on a league minimum to start with).

So little in reinforcements, combined with a manager who's style I maintain does not fit the players he has at all, and it leads me to believe this will be just a lost year. It's not going to be fun to watch, but it'll be necessary to get to the point where you can get some actual cap space to make the signings you need.

I can understand losing Julian Gressel, but how did we let Brandon Vasquez slip away.

And Mach1 is correct... we are paying for our past contract sins. Hard rains are going to fall. I blame the Dutch.

I believe that was an expansion draft loss. Nashville took him, and traded him to Cincinnati.

And while I'd certainly love to have him now after our striker issues recently...if I take off my fan hat and try to look at this a little more objectively, the move was probably what was best for the player. He got way more playtime in Cincinnati than he would have here, at least at that time. He could have been our starter now, but would he be as far along as he's come in Cincinnati? Probably not.

You are very kind to the FO. I still think our big mistake was protecting Guzan, and I said it at the time. Either Kann or Vasquez would still be here if not for that decision.

Thiago Almada scored for Argentina yesterday! His first for the senior team, but surely not his last.

He's going to be part of that team for a long time, provided he doesn't get seriously hurt. Gomma miss him when he leaves, probably sooner than later.

Caleb gets the start today in the first game of the U-20 WC.

Miles was the only Atlanta name on the preliminary list for the Nation's League, so won't lose any more there, I suppose.

Wiley scores a garbage time goal for the US U20's in their 3-0 win over Fiji. The boys are guaranteed to advance from their group and could win the group pending the result of their match vs. Slovakia.

Wiley still an integral part of the USU20 as they advance to the quarterfinals. Started 3 of 4 I believe.

Miles called up to the Gold Cup squad. If the USMNT makes it to the final, next Atlanta game for him will probably be in the League's Cup.

Guess we'll finally get to see if Abram can deliver.

    Miles gets the start!

There are also....other news regarding the USMNT, in case you weren't paying attention. I'm sure you can find out yourselves. People have.....strong feelings about it.

Miles, Etienne, and Fortune make it to the Gold Cup.

Will be curious to see if this forces Araujo back into the lineup at wing.

Fortune and Etienne both played for their respective nations today in the Gold Cup.

Jay got himself a goal, it it ain't a tap-in...

Miles gets a start for the US, plays only a half.

Both T&T and Haiti fail to make it beyond the group stage, so Fortune and Etienne will be back next weekend.

That was a planned halftime sub for Robison to manage the hamstring. The USA were up a hat trick by then anyway.
