Transfer news Sham Shui Po SA Kenneth Kwok's side certainly made a number of incoming transfers in hopes of getting their first three points of the Hong Kong Premier League. They have drafted in former Pegasus striker Kiranbir Singh and youngsters Au Kin Hei and Chang Chi Ho plus three new foreign signings in which he secured Koreans Sim Woon-Sub from Tainan City (the club where Kenneth Kwok previously coached) and Kwon Jae-Kyeong and Spaniard defender Jesus Gonzalez. HK-U23 In addition to Kyle Lau Ka-Kiu, the club had also added Krisna Korani who formerly played within Kitchee's youth academy and had featured for the Hong Kong U-19 squad in last year's AFC U20 qualifiers. Rangers The club has released all their Brazilian players (with the exception of Juninho) and had added three extra players with Japanese midfielder Yumemi Kanda and Korean Park Jong-Bum from Hoi King (both of whom featured during the club's Sapling Cup win against Kitchee) and Chinese midfielder Yang Bailin. On the other, Jesse Yu Joy Yin who had already won two senior caps at international level will be travelling to Japan where Yu will undergo a two week trial with J. League 3 side Kagoshima United. Kitchee Having secured Igor Sartori who had previously played within the Hong Kong Premier League, the club had also extended Ruslan Mingazov's contract in which he will remain with the club until 2025. RCFC The club had recently confirmed that they had signed Nicaragua international Pablo Gallego in hopes to bolster their striking options.
Shinichi Chan is set to extend his long loan period with Real Union from Kitchee until June 2024 in which he will be registered as a player in time for the new season. Lee Man signed Sierra Leone international centre back Alie Sesay. After five months without a club, it seems like Chan Siu Kwan is set to join RCFC. Brazilian centre forward Thiago departed from Sham Shui Po SA to join Hong Kong Football Club.
Silver Challenge Shield Final Kitchee 1:1 (4:2) Eastern An encouraging 7,200 fans attended the match.
Former Sham Shui Po SA goalkeeper To Chun Kiu is going on trial with a Japanese Football League club Suzuka Point Getters, he will participate during the pre-season training in hopes of potentially earning a contract. After Thiago's departure, Sham Shui Po have signed Chu Wai Kwan on loan from Eastern Long Lions.
South Korean international Kim Shin-Wook has joined Kitchee on a 3 year contract that lasts until 2026. The 1.97m striker will wear number 33. He last played for Lion City Sailors and scored 21 goals in 26 matches.
HKFC goalkeeper scored a stunning last minute equalizer for his club against Resources Capital Football Club. His overhead kick goal caused crazy celebration scenes at the HKFC ground.
After Lee Man suffered their first loss against Rangers on Sunday within the Hong Kong Premier League, Chan Hiu Ming departs from the club. Tsang Chiu Tat will takeover as caretaker manager. 1622848604041015296 is not a valid tweet id Andy Russell arrived back in Hong Kong in which it is speculated he could be heading to Kitchee.
Chan Shinichi made his debut yesterday, coming off the bench in a 2-0 loss against Real Socidad B. HKFA to play against ASEAN nations Vietnam/Singapore/Malaysia, as per Headline News, this will be a good chance to see debutants Gerbig and Everton. Big question mark is will Sean Tse be recalled despite having no club attachment.
I would like to see Andersen experiment his squad with perhaps name a couple of fresh additions who have shown potential and impressed throughout the current Hong Kong football season. Players such as Kitchee's Oliver Gerbig, Ngan Cheuk Pan, Tsang Yi Hang (and maybe Poon Pui Hin), Eastern's Wong Ho Chun and maybe Hong Kong Football Club's Alex Dujardin and Timothy Chow might be ones who I predict could earn a potential call-up. I'm aware that there are a number of foreign born players who will be eligible to represent Hong Kong this year. But it will depend on when exactly will the likes of Everton, Stefan Pereira, Mahama Awal will recieve their passports in time for the March friendly internationals. I could also see Matt Orr, Yue Tsz Nam, Leung Nok Hang and Vas Nunez earn recalls having missed out on the September friendlies. Whilst the ones that I am uncertain whether they will earn a call up include Huang Yang and Alex Akande who lacked first team opportunities, but I do agree that there are questions raised about Sean Tse's form despite being unattached since his release from Kitchee last year.
Has Sean Tse retired? I have been following him on social media, and while he has been keeping active occasionally (spinning, hikes), he does not seem to have played any football at all, and is just spending time with his son and family (nothing wrong with that of course, but just saying he seems to be done with being a professional footballer). He removed "professional footballer" from his IG profile as well.
The 34 man preliminary squad is out. Every player who is playing in Mainland China is in Leon Jones, Oliver Gerbig, and Anson Wong have been named for the first time Poon Pui Hin, Tse Ka Wing and Shinichi return to the HK team setup for the first time since the drinking incident Ivan Ng and Jesse Yu have surprisingly been dropped
What is interesting is that Shinichi is playing in an attacking role at Real Union which is where I believe he flourishes a lot more better than his defensive position. Also to add: Sean Tse who still remained as a free agent, Alex Akande and Fung Hing Wa miss out on a place. Ivan Ng Wai Him and Jesse Yu were surprise omissions, however they were included in the Under-23 preliminary list in preparation for the 2024 AFC U23 qualifiers that will take place early September. Surprised that neither Timothy Chow or Alex Dujardin who I thought did really well for Hong Kong Football Club this season weren't even considered even though Chow was named in the Under-23 preliminary list. I will say that perhaps Kitchee's Huang Yang and Andy Russell are ones that I did not expect to earn a call up considering that Huang barely had much first team opportunities with the club this season and Russell who recently joined Kitchee has yet to play. Also great to see a number of fresh inclusions from Leon Jones, Oliver Gerbig, Wong Ho Chun, Ngan Cheuk Pan and Poon Pui Hin earn a call up. I'm guessing that Everton Camargo, Mahama Awal and Stefan Pereira who are all eligible to represent the national team this year are still having their passports being processed.
We are absolutely loaded in the back! Especially in CB position. I wonder if any CB will be pushed up to play CDM, as we definitely have more than 3 quality CB's. Can Leon Jones play as a full back? And does anyone know if Yue Tsz Nam has been playing as a defensive or offensive player in China?
I consider Tse to be retired until he decides to sign another professional contract. Huang is still the captain of the team. He will continue to get called up until he resigns or retires. Russell is basically in the same fitness stage as the other players who are playing in the Mainland. If Li Ngai Hoi, for example, can get called up, why not Russell? Besides, it's only the preliminary squad. Like Suburbia said, we have so many CB's. Dujardin is not one of the top eight HK CB's right now. He plays RB for Meizhou.
I will come off as a hater, but I need to call out Jahangir Khan's inclusion once again.... yes his club form has improved slightly, but all of his HKNT appearances have been ghastly. I would rather have Jesse Yu than Khan.
I predict these players will (or rather I believe should) be cut: GK: - Paulo Defenders: - Yu Wai Lim - Wong Tsz Ho - Alex Jojo - Andy Russell Midfielders: - Ngan Lok Fung - Diego Forwards: - Wong Ho Chun
I think clubs have more than a say on who gets called up and who doesn't, and it is not entirely based on merit. I don't believe Anderson has a free hand at all.
Depending on who makes the final cut, this team has the potential to be one of the deepest and most talented squad in recent years... I've been watching footage of Shinichi Chan where I can, and he seems to have matured (and grown physically) since going to Spain. Very excited to see him in the HK Squad.

With the draw for the Merlion Cup made yesterday, the Hong Kong Under-23s will face Singapore and if they win could face against either Malaysia or Cambodia in the final. Is there any word on who will take charge of the Under-23s?
Shinichi Chan will not be in the squad for the two friendlies this month as he remains in Spain. Szeto Man-Chun will take charge of the Hong Kong Under-23s when they travel to Singapore for the Merlion Cup. Former Hong Kong international Jaimes McKee will be a part of the coaching staff. Andersen revealed that he paid attention to an unnamed 18 year old who plays in Europe is currently applying for a HKSAR passport in which he hopes he can represent the national team. For the Asian Games football event that will take place this year, Andersen will choose three over-aged players who are currently playing within China.
