Most of you guys are too young to have seen these ads when they ran right? E.g. Charles Atlas!! p.s. The usage of "MAC" in the last ad is stretching even my aged memory! I guess it's akin to "Hey Mac, whaddya think you're doing, huh?!!"
The ad was run well after he was dead. I didn't know until now that he died almost before I started reading comic books.
And now back to the topic at hand... I haven't heard MA's words myself yet* but indirectly I've heard the gist from his presser yesterday: Mo's injury could be more serious, so... We still could use some more cover in MF, but that's tricky in Jan (I interpret that as "don't get your hopes up too high") Vague implication that Kiwior might be useful as DM cover (but that's reading the tea leaves slightly) He also talked about Zinchenko, how he's very happy how he plays LB. And I kind of chuckled inside when I heard that because he has to be playing LB about as non-traditionally as it's been played. Someone (Gunnerblog?) called him "The Queen" as in chess, where that piece can and does move all over the board without restrictions. I don't play chess, but that's how I understood that, and I thought it was super apt. SO... I've now evolved back to thinking that if Partey goes down or out, then it'd probably be a bad idea to deputize OZ to do the #6 job, but rather put someone else there and let OZ be OZ, the way he's been tearing it up in recent times. *EDIT: I just actually listened to his presser and would highly recommend it. Amongst the many very informative (and apparently honest) things he said, I was left with this overwhelming feeling that we are lucky to have him be our manager. There are so so many things to like and value in him. And think back on how it felt (for me anyway) when we had Emery. And how we could've ended up with a revolving door after him, with no overall progress, like so many other clubs.
Seeing several reports that Chelsea is increasing efforts to sign Onana. If true, that's hilarious as I agree with @bigman and others that he simply isn't good enough for us. On today's AV podcast, it was mentioned that Arteta is from the same city/region in Spain as Zubimendi, and also share the same agent, so Arteta is personally involved with his recruitment. With that in mind, I can see the continued effort to recruit him in spite of the player's preference to stay. We'll see what happens here, but I do think there is a slightly better chance he comes this window, but most likely in the summer.
In addition to the “x ray” specs for sale in the comic books, I got to play with x-ray machines in shoe stores, so I remember a time when benign nuclear technology was going to save the world and I remember the Charles Atlas ads in comic books.
My sister bought the sea monkeys when we were little kids. Brine shrimp---not sure why the ad lied about being able to train them.
Ornstein reports Arsenal made a £60m bid for Caicedo that was rejected. Brighton say he isn't for sale this window.
His NEW agent says differently apparently ‘ Who would he displace though !? Xhaka ? They only paid £4.8 million for him !!
Edu chasing after Caicedo ends with Caicedo staying at Brighton or going to Chelsea. You would think after 3 years on the job the guy would be less of a dummy by now.
He made his league debut only 9 months ago against Arsenal. Brighton are doing a lot of good things in their recruitment. Arsenal have a good relationship with Brighton, could be a bluff to drive up the price tag for Chelsea.
He’s a “6”. Defensively he may be as good or better than Partey. Offensively he isn’t nearly as progressive, though he is very young (20) and may still develop that side of his game. Whether he can turn in traffic and sprint clear is an open question. He would be an upgrade on Elneny and an eventual successor to Partey.
Seeing some claims that Caicedo has put in (or is preparing) a transfer request in light of our rejected bid.
They moved on pretty fast from Mudryk to Trossard and the Kiwior transfer was kept under wraps till it was done. Don't love the tunnel vision from Edu/Arteta, but I can't complain about what they've done in January. And if Chelsea decide to offer 100m for Caicedo, then Arsenal should of course pass.
They are. Looks like they've been scouting in undervalued/overlooked markets. They must have also looked hard at some of the international youth cups.
But is it really tunnel vision if they're able to pivot as fast as they did? I don't have a problem with them fishing around Caicedo even if it doesn't work out. I suppose I just have some faith they can walk and chew gum.
You sell the project, the young vibrant team that could be competing for silverware for at least the next 4 or 5 years including a chance to win the title this season. In addition to making the point there will be enough minutes to go around for a player who has Arteta’s trust.
Plus the player that he would be competing against is 30 in June and has had injury issues since joining.
Edu and Arteta can move quickly for targets that aren't in demand by other clubs of a similar size. Chelsea have been after Caicedo longer than we have, so if we get Brighton close to accepting a fee, you can be certain Chelsea swoop in and pay a little more, and offer more in wages, and it will probably be the final 48 hours of the window and we get stuck with no one. If you want to go in for someone like Caicedo after Chelsea had a bid rejected, you need to swoop in and get it done in one go without giving them time to regroup and prepare to hijack the bid. If we are willing to spend Caicedo money, surely there are other targets in Europe we could pursue, who we would be more likely to secure, and probably for a smaller fee.
I don't think we are driving his price up/ I think we are legitimately interested and want to see if a deal can get done under the 75 million pounds that was rumored. I don't know if he is worth that much. He looks good and has decent stars for someone in their first full professional season. He seems to be more of an offensive 6 than a defensive one. This season he has say better passing numbers than Tyler adams and Onana, but worse defensive numbers. Do we think Arsenal is going to up I can. No 21-year-old player is moving to a top 4 club in the middle of the season and starting immediately unless there are exceptional circumstances.
