Does anyone else think that the MetroStars rebranding might be the start of a trend in MLS? I could see some other teams moving towards more traditional soccer logos and/or looks. To an extent this trend has been with us for a long time. Think about the uniforms the first year. (Oh, maybe that's not such a good idea.) The uniforms today have a much more traditional look to them. Perhaps the MetroStars rebranding indicates or might initiate a speeding up of this ongoing trend towards more traditional soccer looks and logos. In know some teams - Colorado for instance - are talking about new color schemes. And I thought that Dallas was talking about a new crest. (Or so I thought I heard.) I suspect that the new teams that'll be started over the next couple years will all tend towards conventional soccer looks.
I think a few teams with change...Rapids changing colors, hopefully a logo comes with, that circle shaped one they have now is great if it was the main logo...burn just need a shield, the horse isn't bad, i've seen a nice one someone made...everyone else is fine, galaxy could go for with a shield look rather than the spiral thing but besides the rapids and burn i think everyone is fine...
The Metrostars logo was by far the worst MLS - the 9-11 connection really put it over the top in terms of horrendousness. There was no way the Metros would continue with that logo in place - I'm surprised they left it on their jerseys this season. Most MLS teams need serious rebranding. I hope this is the beginning of a trend but I doubt it.
If the other teams see the Metros selling a huge amount of murchandise I think they will make changes. I think the Metro jersey will be one of the top sellers now. Colorado has a good logo, their second one. The round one with the ball in the middle. They have had that since the first or second year I believe but for some reason they insist on staying with the Robert Redford A River Runs Through It logo. Top of the list for changes though now I believe needs to be the Revolution. It would be so easy to come up with something classy. Logo wise that is, their uniforms aren't terrible. But get rid of the feeble attempt at a flag. Somewhere Thomas Jefferson is turning over in his grave.
The MetroStars changes are pretty good in my estimation. I think the shield is much better than the original ... thing. And, the kit looks pretty cool. The MetroStars is much smaller on the chest, which is better, although I'm still opting for no club name typography on the front. But, overall I'm pleased. And, they got a new, amazing coach - probably to the disappointment of most Chicago fans, though. Hopefully somebody really good will step in here in Chicago. We'll see...
I hope this is the begining of a rebranding of the MLS Teams. Most of the team crests look way too "Disney". By looking at Colorado's crest, I can't even tell it's a soccer team. (BTW, wasn't "Rapids" the name of an older Colorado NHL team and current MLB team?) You've probably seen this site, ..but check it out if you haven't: http://home.attbi.com/~bloodsaint1/MLSrp/football.htm
The Metrostars new logo is a great example of how MLS needs to market itself. A blend of soccer tradition and American sports tradition. It just may be the best logo out there right now. DCs logo is great - but too Euro in my opinion. It's a great soccer logo, but not a great American soccer logo. The Metros new logo is a great American soccer logo. DCs logo communicates "foreign" to the average american sports fan. The Metros new logo doesn't do that. Kudos to the designers of the new Metros logo. If only MLS could pull together American sports fans and soccer fans so smoothly.
dude, you don't know what you are talking about. metros' jersey is ac milan's kit... a famous italian team. the exact same kit, same supplier, different logo. dc's crest and jersey is unique. i have never seen one similar, while metro's new logo looks similar to barca... a famous spanish team. now i love both of them, and i think that the "too euro" arguement is stupid. i would rather have quality logos and kits than some cartoonish american setup (think nhl or nba ). there is nothing wrong with a reserved design (think mlb and nfl ).
They've really created a niche with the whole 'black and red thing'...wait, aren't United the black and red? Brilliant move MLS. Soon all teams will be various shades of black....oh yeah, and red. Any deviants will be contracted. This league is a comedy of errors.
No, the Burn are the black and red! Er, wait a sec, I think DC is the black and red and the Burn are the red and black. Oh, nevermind.
Dude, you don't know what your talking about the last time I checked AC Milan's kit was done by Adidas who does't supply the Metrostars that honor(if you really want to call it that) goes to Nike. But the Barca logo kinda looks like the Metro logo if you really think about it.
Yeah! I can't wait for San Jose to get rid of the "Clash" moniker and that hideous lobster/scorpion logo! I bet if they changed their image, brought in a budding USMNT star who's languishing on the bench of some undeserving Bundesliga side, and maybe even hosted an All-Star game, they'd stand a good chance of winning an MLS Cup!
Sir, you cannot be serious when you say the Rapids logo is fine. Yes, Rapids colors good, Yes, Rapids name good, No, logo hideous. Please, you cannot say that logo is good. It has nothing to do with soccer, its a logo for a river rafting company. They need to go to their second logo ASAP.
I think what makes a good logo is if it represents the City or state its from and the nickname. the Rapids logo is good because it does that, it represents Colorado with the Mountains and the Rapids with the blue rapids obviously. also if somone had no clue about Football they wouldnt know what the dallas cowboys star was. it dosnt say football. neither do most pro sports teams. and come on the secound rapids logo is nothing more then a soccer ball, not very creative at all. but im starting to think thats what people on these boards like seeing as how most of you like that new Metros logo they got out of the eurosport catalog.
I like the Rapids' current logo too. And I liked the old MetroStars' logo, but the new one is also fine - maybe a little bland, but certainly traditional and acceptible.
Re: Re: MetroStars Rebranding: Is this the start of a trend in MLS?       Same thought crossed my mind - you think it'll work?
