I liked Berhalter during his time with the Crew. I thought he stuck with the club and the fan base through shitty ownership. He had no personality in press conferences but I got used to it. Then after the Wahl tweet, he was recorded at an after practice interview asking the local media what they thought of it. He stood there asking them what they thought - as if he knew all along. How could he not have? Too many things would have not added up over the years. I think he knew and he escaped without having to answer for his cover up. I’m done with him. On to the next.
I thought Ggg talked about FratAss' ambition when the move was announced but I might have remembered it wrong. His tactics are dated and he plays an old man's game with young players. Does Chad Brown buy a prized thoroughbred and race it at Cheltenham?
I mean, what would you expect him or anyone to do or say even if they knew the team was moving or planned to? I doubt he was hired with the knowledge and I hardly expect him to take a stand or resign in protest.
Folks this Reyna/Berhalter thing has much more to it than much of the media has uncovered. I've only seen 1 or 2 reporters bring up the fact that Reyna did not sign Sebastien when his loan from Crew expired an that may have played role in the saga. How do you think the loan was arranged to begin with? Do you think Claudia just called up Crew FO and asked if he was available? No Chance. Seba knew his shot with Crew was over once Daddy GGG wasn't at the helm (becasue he wasn't good enough). So Daddy GGG arranged for him to go to Austin figuring his old buddy Reyna and protege Wolfe would gift him playing time. When Austin decided he wasn't good enough they let him go. There is chatter that didn't go over well with Daddy GGG and he may not have been notified in advance - hence souring relationship with Reyna. What a better way to demonstrate your superiority in the soccer world over your old buddy that by selecting his kid to go to WC and then tell him once there he wouldn't play (even though he was absolutely good enough and fans were even demanding it). In th end the whole thing centers around 1 thing that is grossly rampant in US soccer - nepotism. Many still contend GGG only got NT job because of his brother. How do you think Seba got to UNC? Was he good enough to go there. Ya probably. Was he a rock star there before daddy got him a HG deal? NO! How do you think SEba got youth NT camp call ins when he wasn't even the best player on his club team? So the Berhalters are not as innocent as some want to portray. They have used system for betterment of themselves for a long time. Only difference is Gio is freaking stud and a proper manager would have handled the situation differently and most certainly had him on field more at WC. I love that he hit a banger this weekend and made a point out of it.
Occam's Razor. Sebastian and Tyler Wolff both played in the Crew Youth academy. Josh coached with Gregg. It's not a giant leap that Josh would take a flyer on Sebastian without needing a favor to be called in by Gregg, especially when you have an expansion team that is in need of players. I'm not saying Gregg harbored no resentment. I just don't know that the scenario you laid out makes sense. If it was a personal vendetta, it would have been much easier for Gregg to just leave Reyna off the roster all together with some excuse about not being in game shape following his injury layoff(s), etc. Quite frankly, I don't even care if it was a personal issue Gregg had with Claudio. That would be stupid and petty and would be a mark against Gregg. But that shouldn't let the Reyna family off the hook for trying to blackmail Gregg and US Soccer. And I think we all know who actually has/had the direct line to Stewart and McBride.
The Seba angle of the Reyna v. Berhalter kerfuffle is not new. It's been discussed for weeks by everyone from Wynalda to the dregs of social media on BS, Twitter, Reddit, etc.
I'm not letting anyone off hook. They all have let their sense of entitlement impede their judgement. What I'm saying is Berhalter is not a victim in this situation. I'm also certain US soccer is not equipped with people who cna make sound judgement calls in this saga, because they all have long personal relationships with all parties. I'm guessing the McBride thing was him taking one side or the other and it being contrary to what those that employ him to be. Not sure if he is on right side or wrong side. We may actually never know.
USSF isn't going to say Claudio should have kept his woman in line. Her version is that she told Earnie Stewart after Gregg's comments leaked, and not during the tournament. No idea if she planned it with Claudio or not. But the clause allowing the move to Austin had to be approved by the MLS board of governors and the Hunts are on the board.
Yes Wynalda has been one who brought it up. Problem is that dude has his own historical issues. Same with Twellman. That whole era of guys has back stabbed each other left and right.
Is there any evidence of blackmail? What was demanded? It seems to be the case this all blew up after the WC. So it doesn't look like "play Gio or we'll tell about you kicking Rosalind".
I think even the Reyna's version has a strong "Nice little national program you've got there, sure would be a shame if something happened to it" vibe. Blackmail doesn't have to be explicit.
I don't think Dani Reyna realized that when she brought up a 30 year DV situation,Earnie had to take his friend hat off and put hisGM hat on. I don't think she realized she was launching the nuclear option. Or she did.
Correct, The original sell was between Hunt and Precourt, it had a clause saying the team can't be moved. After the Sell, Precourt (or Garber, pick your villain) went back to the board and had the clause added. Hunt had a vote, one vote among 26. Or did they do it at a meeting he wasn't present? Did he vote in favor of the clause, or against it and got outvoted? We don't know what happened in that meeting. But we do know that Hunt Insisted on having that no move clause for the sell. So unless something changes and we get more information I'm not throwing Hunt of the bus with the rest of the Scum that tried to steal the Crew.
Well now it looks like Ernie Stewart is out (in addition to McBride) so who is doing the investigation?
Leave it to Two Buttons to pay a single guy to do multiple jobs and "promote" a guy to an interim role. https://www.austinfc.com/news/claud...irector-reyna-to-continue-with-austin-fc-as-t
